Movement

Hello all ,
Seems in matches am slow in running left or right to pick up hard, hit shots but quite fast in picking drop shots i.e in a straight line.

What are the best drills to improve my side to side movement? Have struggled historically with that.

Lastly it would be greatly appreciated if anyone could tell me some drills to improve my thigh and/ or leg strength. So that I can feel strong when reaching the ball on a full run rather than feel weak and like I will collapse when I set up for a shot on the run.
Thanks ever so much

How fast can you see/spot shots? With your hitting partner start calling out "forehand" or "backhand" as soon as you recognize which side you need to move to and hit from... You might be surprised at the results...

Running forward is a lot different from running sideways, and is more than your leg strength. You might want to look into balance type of exercises using balance ball/board, yoga, core, etc. I'd imagine hip abductors, adductors, and glutes are also important.

Well, the best idea is to put them on the defensive first so you don't have to deal with it so much. But one of the better drills is this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGVYI00tGjY

Do that for the forehand and backhand sides.
Interesting video and drill. I did this today and it does make you feel explosive.
Do you know of any more such videos you can recc. Maybe some for the backhand side as well.

Anyone else if they have any can also post links if you want.

But yes it was taxing in a great way.

I am generally good at anticipating shots and am known as a fast mover on the court. However, lately seem to be rather slow in the side to side shots as well as hitting hard on the run.

By spotting a shot you mean calling out as soon as my opponent hits a shot?

Yes... Try this and see when you can recognize a forehand or backhand. Read your opponent+the ball and call out whether you'll play for hand or backhand.
