Moving away from a pure aero..

Hi guys, would really appreciate your advice.
I am moving away from a Pure Aero as I found it slightly too stiff (giving me wrist pain) and powerful when being agressive. However I love what the pure aero gave me on serves (spin and power) and also being able to still hit the ball deep when pushed behind the baseline. My problem is that when being aggressive I find that its hard to tame the Pure Aero. Similarly on returns, I just found the power it gave me too much to control. So therefore I'm looking for a similar frame that is perhaps just a little less stiff, similar forgiveness and sweet spot size, but perhaps a bit more controllable power. I am currently looking at the old pure strike (much less expensive than the Project One Pure Strike) and the Yonex DR 98. Would either of these frames likely be what I'm looking for? Or could you recommend something else?

use racquetfinder tool and narrow some options down. for ex. search for frames that have a stiffness below 65 or so. narrow the headsize and weight/swing weight and go from there. that's the best thing you can do starting out to narrow down frames.
 
I think the Yonex Ai100, and to a lesser extent the DR100, are more control oriented, arm-friendly Aero Pro Drive/Pure Aero style racquets. I also like the fact that I can ramp up the tension on the strings without killing my arm. The new Pure Strike and DR98 aren't really the same kind of racquet as the Pure Aero. Maybe the Pure Strike 100, but definitely not the more popular 16 x 19 98 version.
 
I have the Dr 98. Love it. At first, it felt under powered, but as I worked on my kinetic chain and stroke mechanics, this stick came alive. I am able to swing hard and keep the ball from flying. Try a demo! Might take a while to get used to vs the pure Aero, very different frames.

Also, have you considered an Angell Tc 100? I am looking forward to buying one. Haven't played with it yet, but there is a huge Angell thread. It is a rare combination of plush and good power in a racquet from what I have gathered.

I am using Gosen og sheep micro 16 natural, 55 tension with Yonex vib dampener. Lower powered stringbed, but now that I am used to it I love the control.
 
DR98+? added length for a bit more pop on serve over the regular. I haven't tried it yet - but it looks sweet.
 
If you are looking at the DR 98, also demo the AI 98. If you are thinking about getting the Pure Strike, I would recommend the Pure Strike Tour if you can handle the swing weight,
 
take your time and go on some demo adventures...
with out knowing your level, hitting style (flat/ good topspin), wheel house spec range, I would not suggestion...
it would be like pissing in the wind.
Make it fun, it will take time..
But you will find the best frame for you and your game..
you hands will know..

I've said this a lot on the forum - but this is my experience. I switched from the 2013 APD to the Pure Aero to really see if that frame was an improvement. I love my APDs and I knew it would take a lot for those frames to be better for me. The upside of the PA - you can pulverize the ball with it, it serves like a Cannon, gives you great spin and feels solid. The down side - it's like driving a car with no brakes. Very hard to control. And - it absolutely killed my wrist. I've never had any wrist issues in the past. Roman Prokes, who was Agassi's racquet guy and featured on the cover of tennis magazines as a racquet guru, owns a store in New York and here's what he found. Like me, many of his customers who switched to the PA from the APD developed wrist pain and like me, when they went back to the APDs, the wrist pain went away. He hates that frame and thinks the APDs are amazing.
I'm now back with my 2013 APDs.
For what it's worth, I wasn't a fan of the old Pure Strikes. I felt like they got pushed around more than similar frames, back then. The DR98 is a fun frame to hit with, but I don't feel like it makes my game dangerous[emoji4]. It's a rallying stick, not a match stick, for me. I don't think either of the DR98 or the old PS compare to the 2013 APD. I sold my PA to a good friend who's a little better than me and he now wants to move on.

I presently play with the Pure Aero Tour, and prior to that i played quite a bit with the Pure Aero. I hear what you saying about the PA...plenty power, and sometimes just too much.
Tontame the power inended up stringing the PA reallybtight with a stiff poly and thatbreally did the trick. However, this isnt great for arms and wrists as you mention. I feelnyour thoughts of a Pure Skrike is a great choice. I hit the pure strike (new project 7) and was suitably impressed,...notch down om power, and more control then the PA..
Felt very similar in a lot of aspects...serve..spin..great.

The DR98 is a great racket, but very different...lot lot less power...but ten great control...and great feel.

Give the Pure Strike a hit...

Obviously, we all hit differently and different frames suit us best. However the OP does have wrist issues with the PA, as I did - and as many players also have experienced. Conversely, many people complain that the APD is an arm killer. I have no arm issues with it...

The only frame I've tried that compared favorably to my PA is the Pro Staff 97, less power but more comfort.
 
Back in March, I found the Pure Aero with my normal Cyclone Tour 1.30mm not as comfortable as I had hoped. So put my Pure Aero's in the closet. I had guys ask me to sell them but I declined.

Fast forward to Dec 17, and some different strings. Isospeed Cream 1.28mm mains / Technifiber HDX Tour 1.35mm crosses (15L), yep a hybrid with a multi. Comfortable, plenty of power, and more spin than my Prince Textreme Warrior 100 with full poly.

My problem.was trying to use full poly in the Pure Aero when a poly/durable multi was more than suffeicient. My Serve and groundstrokes have never had a much power since abandoning my Pure Drive Plus frames in 2010.

I would like to try a Pure Aero Plus, but the Pure Aero is like a smooth longboard that you don't want to give up.
 
A couple of weeks ago I demoed the Pure Drive, the Pure Aero and the Prince Warrior 100. Check out the Warrior! I ended up buying it after demoing. It was the perfect balance of comfort and had lots of power. The really open string pattern gave it the spin of the Aero. To me the RA of 66 seems like the sweet spot.
 
Pure Aero user here. Thought of going to the DR98 for the new year but found it difficult to generate the spin and power that I've grown accustomed to from the PA. It's strange because I know a couple of people who hit with the DR and generate all the spin and power they want. Me? I struggled to do so. I guess it's true about the PA in that it can make one a better player almost magically. I fit in that category! I'm regretfully placing the YoYos on the market.
 
PA is thicker and stiffer so it just has to have more pop and it probably has a higher swingweight, given the balance point, and that is the best indicator of power.
 
this question has a linear answer. there are raquets with the same string pattern but less power (speed mp, for example). you get a smaller sweet spot, less power, and less stability in exchange. either way, keeping RHS up and using a shorter closed-face swing will will improve your percentages on groundstrokes
 
Prince Warrior 100 is very good tweener. Similar performance as PA, just with much better comfort and bigger sweetspot.
