moving forward 2HBH

I'm looking for some good online instruction on dealing with a short low slice to a 2HBH. Usually this is a ball that is so short I have no choice but to come to the net. But getting this ball up over the net and back down into the court is especially difficult on my BH side. When I play a lefty it's even more difficult because I have to keep the ball down the line if I don't want to be beaten immediately down the line by my opponents lefty FH. This means I've got to hit the ball up over the high part of the net and bring it down in a shorter court down the line. Sometimes a slice is good enough in this situation but against 4.5 and above it's not. It's easier for me to take my left hand off the racket and underspin the ball but even this is not an easy shot to get over the nigh part of the net and down into the court.

Does anyone know of any online coaching that is helpful? I'm looking for something on how to flick a short low ball with my 2HBH and maybe even some shot selection options depending on how low and how short the incoming ball is.

time it so that your left leg can be tightened when performing the shot, jump if need be
dunno any online material osrry

The drop feed drill about twenty five seconds into the session.

The key to this shot is keeping your body really still and staying down, which is harder than it sounds.

For me its all in the legs and swing path. You'll need to get down lower than normal with the knee of the trailing leg almost touching the floor. The swing path of the racket will be more vertical as you get under the ball and swing speed should be fast in order to get it up and down quickly. The link below is to TTT and hope this is helpful. A good slice with a little side on it when placed effectively is also a great option. If you have a friend who can feed you low slices then you'll soon pick it up, although sometimes you just have to credit your opponent with a good shot.

Work on your slice. If it's "good enough" it will at least neutralize even really good players. No, the slice isn't everything, but a decent one will deny a strong reply from a solid opponent.

That short low ball that pulls us forward is just nasty - Uncle Roger has relied on it to make a handsome living. If the ball is just too low to physically swing low-to-high and generate a topspin shot, the slice or drop shot reply are pretty much the two most feasible options left. But if you do go for a topspin shot, you need to work harder than usual because you need to bring your swing path down to the ball.

Most of us aren't wild about the advice to "bend the knees". That's kind of a drag. But one of the best cues I know for helping to properly get down to a low ball off either side (forehand or backhand) is the image of getting our hips below the ball. That happens naturally when the incoming ball is waist height or above, but not if it's down closer to our knees. When we're focused on getting our hips at the proper height for every shot, that can trick us into bending those knees as we seek that proper setup on the ball.

Wow the first 3 mins of that vid. She makes it look so damn easy. Such huge strength in balance in the hips and legs she can just fling the racquet.

i dont think you ever have to go dtl you can always drive it hard cross which is the high percentage play or even slice it cross then you put him in the exact same position you just avoided

If it is really short, then really hard to get to it in good enough order to drive with topspin, maybe just slice/lift it back deep to reset?
I was told by my coach though to attack slice if you can, you have to be really switched on to get to it fast, so you can consciously get really down to it to attack it with topspin, you'd be surprised how many you can drive if you actually commit to it, and attack it fast with purpose.
I suck at tennis so take with grain of salt.

I think you're on track. I just came back to this thread after not logging in for a while. That's kind of what Peter Freeman said in his video series the closer. If the ball gets below your knees and you're inside the service line, underspin is what you have to do. Mainly just hi to low and extend out to the target is what I took away from it. I'm surprised how many winners I get with the slow underspin shot and I make my opponent hit another ball. But yeah, some opponents will come up with great passing shots off that. I guess that's why some players will go for drop shots.
