Note: As far as I could find, the entire site is in Spanish and there is no English translation. This is the google translation of one description from the website:

"Between January 31 and February 8, 2009 will be held the fifteenth version Movistar Open. The most important tennis event in Chile and the country's only ATP tournament will take place within a framework of public and extensive media coverage.

In its fifteenth release, the ATP tournament has established itself as a national heritage of the sport and the only ATP tournament official tour that takes place in Chile. A massive event that has assisted approximately 100,000 people in the last four years.

A tournament that brings together the best national players (Fernando Gonzalez, Nicolas Massu, Paul Capdeville and others) and international circuit ATP, specialists in clay courts."

At the moment, I am unsure of any TV / online coverage, although I assume there will be some since it's an ATP event.

I'll edit this post as further info becomes available.

edit from google translate--->

MEGA TV with national coverage, transmitting two live games daily, a total of 30 hours live, links and interviews with major news television.

INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION: Transmission of Direct and Semi-Finals TyCLatino America, SporTVBrasil, Tennis Channel U.S., and offices in news media throughout the world (ESPN, FOXSport, CNN and others).

edit: channelsurfing.net has it scheduled @

Everyone in the draw is going to get SCHWANKED

if i hadn't seen schwank get haad by haas this year i might have agreen with you. i have serious doubts (after seeing both play this year) that schwank can beat gonzalez.

I am taking the easy one, Gonzalez. Is it cold in Chile?

i'm tending to agree with you, Leublu! :)
after all, gonzo beat hewitt and gasquet in the AO.
and i believe i read he's playing dubs w/Lapenti.

as far as Chile goes, i know nothing yet, but love to learn about new places online as the tournaments take place around the world. hopefully, somebody "in the know" can tell us both!

Hey guys, I`m from Chile and I can tell you that it`s summer here so the weather is pretty warm but Viña del Mar is a city next to the sea so the temperature is really stable and not that high there (around 20 ºC).

Cheers.

are you watching by any chance? i can see by the live scoreboard that juan monaco of argentina took the first set 6-2 vs. nicolas devilder of france, but the channelsurfing.net link is not working (at least not for me).

TV coverage here in Chile starts in half an hour with Gonzalez teaming up with Hans Podlipnik in doubles and then at 10 PM with Paul Capdeville against Eduardo Schwank. I believe you can get the online feed at www.mega.cl

thanks again, Biggie! :D

it's probably just the wierd security on this computer, but all i'm getting at that link is the mediaplayer frame and a lot of buffering. maybe it's blacked out in the USA?

same thing is happening on my computer at the channelsurfing.net link: got the frame, but no picture and no sound.

anybody else in the USA able to see the match on either of those 2 links?

spaniards take the first set 7-6

... plus up an early break in the 2nd

gonzo was up 40 love in the first game of the second. i think i heard the announcer say his partner is a teenager ... anyway seems the weak link in that team, imo.

capdeville takes first set 6-3

schwank seems a bit out of sorts,
threw his racquet to the clay x4 in first set.

I think Fena (don't have that n with ~ on my keyboard) is more common among native speakers.
How's Schwank doing? I tipped him to win his first title this year.

break, break back 2-1.

question:
Do Chileans call fernando gonzalez "gonzo"?
or what?

Gonzo is one of his "nicknames" here in Chile but I think it´s not the most used one... usually people call him Feña, Fer (this is how De la Peña calls him), etc.

thanks, you two! :D

one more Q: is "Fena" a common nickname for "Fernando"? or is it particular to fernando gonzalez?

---------------

regarding schwank: a bit of a disappointment tonight, with paul the better player tonight: 23 UE vs. 11 for capdeville.

You`re welcome.

Feña is the most common nickname for Fernando (and Fernanda as well) so it`s not particular to Fernando Gonzalez.

And Paul seals the victory at 6-3, 6-4. Great victory for the chilean, hopefully this leads to bigger things.

it's hard for me to choose between
gonzalez and robredo, but based on
their AO performances, i'll guess Fe(n~)a :D

ooops i made a boo-boo.
monaco played today (not shown in usa).

looking forward to seeing massu play.
he's your choice to take the championship, oscar?

yea, monaco is playing doubles tomorrow, and yes Nico massu is my pick to win, more a sentimental pick than a realistic one but u never know :)

i saw bellucci at auckland and was favorably impressed, but the brazilian is being hard pressed by the argentine.

this is my first time seeing Brezicki.

bellucci holding w/finesse after several bps, brezicki holding w/power 1 all
