[Waiting for Nicolás Massú?]

juan pablo holds 3-2.

next game he gets into extended argument with the umpire over a call that the umpire refused to get down and come over to examine.

clay court empires certainly must be fit!

besides the fact that the No. 6 Seed has now been eliminated from doubles as well as singles, something's also unusual about that score. does anyone else think so? i thought decider was first to 10 with 2 to spare?

Sad to see Massu these days, sometimes the guy plays fine, but he just seems unable to catch a break. I mean, he hasn't won an ATP-level match since the Olympics last year, maybe he should just do challengers and then quietly retire.

o well, its ok i like el gordo calleri too

youre the first person who's mentioned calleri's nickname, oscar. are you argentinean?

i first heard this when agustin played in a doubles match at auckland and the announcer mentioned it then. he said "el gordo" got the nickname in his younger days but that, even tho he slimmed down, the nickname stuck.

confirm or deny?

Does Robredo on a right track of winning?

Hi, mrDamien! :)
Not sure about tommy yet. theyre not showing all the matches online, i've only seen just the two per day: the "prime time" is 10:00 p.m. local, and the one just before that. ..... IOW, i'll research and get back to you.

meanwhile .....

this might sound strange coming from a person who's never seen him play before, but i was very favorably impressed with Nicolás Massú, even tho he did lose to Agustín Calleri in straight sets today ... i'm impressed not just because he's so obviously beloved by his countrymen, but i honestly enjoyed watching him play.

everyone but i probably already knew this, but it bears repeating that Massú won two gold medals (one for singles plus one for doubles) in tennis for his country in 2004. interesting profile @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicolás_Massú

and Massú played a tough first set against Calleri, taking it to a TB. it's just that calleri raised his level of intensity in the second set, and despite moments of brilliance, Massú was unable to mount an adequate defense. honestly, i'm sorry to see him leave, but i'll look forward to seeing him play in future! :D

I like Massu just because he looks like a chill, stoner dude.

[tho not in so many words, carlos bernardes let it be known that, unlike the umpire in the preceding match, he was not going to be popping in and out of his chair ... in fact (though i missed about 20 minutes of the match, i only saw him leave his perch twice!]

peru. nice! :)

cuevas is another one who's new to me.
he beat nicolas lapenti of ecuador in the first round. that's very interesting that he's won the doubles championship at FO.

today, his match w/montanes of spain is first up on cancha central, but if today is like the previous days this week, channesurfing will only be showing the evening matches.

fans filled the stands for the first time this week, obviously to see fernando play. whether they helped him win i don't know, but they were certainly silent whenever maximo (who pushed the defending champ ever step of the way) won a game.

fernando through to 3rd round 7-5, 7-6(7)

I like Tommy's chances

i had to choose bw/gonzo and tommy.
i believe tomorrow will be tommy's first singles match, since he was one of the seeds who had a bye to the second round. gonzo as defending champ was another, and he's already thru to the 3rd.

tommy's first up on center court @ 2 pm local, whic is 9 am pacific time, but as yet i haven't seen any of the matches in those early time slots for lack of a link.

anybody got a link that shows
Tommy Robredo (Esp) vs. Brian Dabul (Arg) ???
on Thur. Feb 5 at 2 pm Vina del Mar time?

hmmmmmmmm.......schedule change, apparently.

the acasuso match was scheduled for 7 pm local time, but apparently there was a delay ...... so this w/b played at 10 pm local ...

i'm assuming the gonzalez match will follow?

p.s. bellucci played well earlier in the week, but if acasuso plays as he did in the davis cup final, i'd be more inclined to guess he'll win, but it's pretty much a toss up since i haven't seen chucho play since davis cup.
