Moya joins Rafa's coaching team

Interesting. I hope Moya can help Nadal make another push. The timing is good with Djokovic looking undercooked and the field abysmal.

@batz do you have a link confirming this news? Also, what's going to happen with Nadal's other coach Roig?

Lotta staff and coaches to pay. After a QF exit Nadal is basically playing for nothing.

Yeah yeah he has tons of endorsements and appearance fees etc. More worried about dissention within his own team if anything.

Wow, this can prove to be the way of a comeback for Nadal. Moya will contribute alot unlike Toni who still lives in the world of 2005 tennis..

He's definitely not in 2005 tennis. He knows Murray is the best player in the world now.

As I said when the RAONIC split happened, yet
Yes, I participated in your thread, and said it seemed a very reasonable addition to Nadal's team indeed.
No wonder we got the "Anti Rafa Brigade"-hammer from octomom. :D

We'll see what he might be able to bring along. Like @heninfan99 already said, Moya has been close to Rafa since his early days, so I'm not expecting all that much difference.
Nice to see him come along though - pretty sure he's a far more likeable personality than Tio "Where's the Whip?" Toni.

Oops. Something strange happened when I quoted your post!??
Sorry, no idea how to fix it!

Octo, answer that post pls

I think you said Moya has nothing to add to Rafa

I have always emphasized that Moya is not a stranger to Rafa. I have always said that Rafa started to practice with Carlos Moya a long time ago, they have been practice partners & good friends for years.
Rafa practiced with Carlos Moya for the first time at the age of 12. C.Moya was a mentor to Rafa in the early stages of the latter's career and they have been good friends ever since.

Few months back when people questioned why Moya joined Raonic instead of Rafa, you said Moya was nothing more than a hitting partner. An apology is in order.

Am actually surprised with this since everyone thought it would be Rafa. I guess Moya thinks that he can make more money with Milos thinking his 2016 results will be better than his old friend Rafa.

Yet another ex GS winner as a coach. In ten years from now there will almost be none as I doubt any of the big four and Stan will want or need to coach and travel.

Rafa has no intention to hire more coaches (he has 2 coaches)!

Carlos Moya is Rafa's practice partner. Pau Ferragut : "On Monday, Nadal & Moyà practiced together in Manacor [Rafa's hometown]."

I have always said that C.Moya has been a very important person in Rafa's tennis life already for a long time (18 years).

Moya and Rafa have been friends for years and was something of a mentor IIRC. Will be interesting to see what he adds as an official coach.

Moya might have learned a few new things from coaching Meelosh that he can pass on to Rafa.

I know a lot of you have said Moya is no stranger to the Nadal team and might not have a revolutionary effect on Nadal's game. But consider this fact: Just for the emotional effects of Moya's pressence, this seems like a good thing.

Moya did it better more often and naturally much like Verdasco and Raonic
Maybe Becker could have helped Rafa :} how to put on weight or restaurant closet concepts!

Just surprised that it has taken so long to happen. Moya and Rafa are both Mallorcans and have known each other since Rafa was a kid! They are close friends. Moya being a part of Rafa's team has always seemed a logical move.

Rafael Nadal adds Carlos Moya to coaching team

MADRID -- Rafael Nadal has added former player and fellow Spaniard Carlos Moya to his coaching team ahead of the 2017 season.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion said in a statement Saturday that Moya will work together with Toni Nadal and Francis Roig.

"To have someone like Carlos, who is not only a friend but also a very important person in my career, is something special," Nadal said. "He will be next to me on my practice and competition."

Moya, who won the 1998 French Open as a player, parted ways earlier this month with Milos Raonic after leading the Canadian to his most successful year on the tour. Raonic reached his first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon and moved up to a career-high ranking of No. 3. Moya had joined Raonic's team in January.

"To be able to help Rafa is something special for me and I am sure that together with Toni, Francis and the rest of the team we have a great common project," Moya said. "Rafa is a special player and above all a great person and friend on which I have a lot of trust and confidence that will be able to continue winning important titles."

Toni Nadal, the player's uncle and main coach, said Moya will also join projects involving the Rafa Nadal Academy.

"When I knew Carlos had stopped with Raonic I called him since we think he can join all our projects," Toni Nadal said. "Carlos has always been a special person for us ... We understand it is the right moment to have him join our team."

Rafa has practiced a lot with Moya.
