Mozart of Chess: Magnus Carlsen (Federer)

Semi-Pro
In the US 60 Minutes rebroadcast last night a piece on a young Norwegian chess champion who reminded me more than a little of Federer, to some degree based on his looks, but more so on his temperament and personality: Hyper competitive, intelligent, very well spoken, a little arrogant, (and rightly so!), but with some perspective and a sense of humor about it all.

And he likes to play soccer and tennis - there was a short bit of video showing him hitting a backhand! (Skip to 9:38 in the video)

Here's a link to the piece...

Thanks for the link! Someone at work mentioned this story.

I think the guy's father exhibits a great attitude, and had some very insightful comments, including this, talking about how Magnus enjoys the experience of competing (roughly 10:35 in video)...

"Maybe you have to compare to a writer or painter ... probably if you see them at work they're not smiling, having an easy time ... they're exploiting their mind to the utmost, and the same with the chess players."

And the same with (some) tennis players, only their bodies too are involved, of course. Fed tops that list as far as I'm concerned.
