MTM: What is the "12345"?

The idea is to rally from the baseline with a partner, initiate the 12345 count when the ball bounces on your side, and wait to accelerate the racket to the ball until you're finished with the count. The point is that you have more time than you think.

1 is counted aloud "as" the ball is coming to the bounce, followed by 2,3,4,...then 5 at the contact. Yes, it shows you have more time than you think, but also helps with timing like the "bounce hit" method along with also serving to occupy the conscious mind a bit, to keep it from interfering with what you can do without conscious calculation.
