Multi mains & syn gut crosses?

If I put syn gut in the crosses and multi in the mains, will it play just like a full multi job? Does anyone use this kind nof hybrid? Please share your thoughts.

The main strings will provide the majority of the feel. Some estimate 70 - 80%. In my experience it is at the lower end of the range...perhaps even in the 60's though I have no idea how this can accurately be measured...it's basically feel and intuition.

So to answer your question...no, it won't play exactly the same. The string bed will definitely take on characteristics of both the mains and crosses. However, if you are looking to add some crispness to your multis and are looking to bring down the cost of the string job, (assuming a high end multi and an average solid core), then hybriding may be exactly what you are seeking.

Yes I am looking to bring down the cost , and a little crispness to the multis would be great, too.

Thank you very much for your input Jerry!

I use Tecnifibre NRG2 (17g) in the mains, and Tech E-Matrix (17) in the crosses of my ProKennex 5G. The crosses will break first (for me in about 12-15 hours) but I cut them out and restring the EMatrix again. Yes, not as good as a full multi string job, maybe 75% though. The mixed cost is $6.50 + $2.50 for half of each set. Actually, I recall that EMatrix is a multi but with the cost (and performance) I think of it as a syn gut especially when compared to the feel and power of NRG2.

I rarely put multi's in the crosses anymore. They tend to fray in the crosses. To make it play even more like a full multi, drop the tension of crosses by 3-5#. This will allow the mains to be more elastic.

How about a multi main and polyester cross? Wouldn't that make it more durable since poly helps keep strings from moving as much. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, has anyone tried this? If so, how was the results?
