Multifilament on Ezone 100 (2022)

I’ve been playing tennis for 16 months now. I’ve been taking lessons once a week since the beginning (except in the summer). I went from not playing tennis at all to have a decent technique thanks to my lessons at my local club with very good pro instructors. I also play once or twice per week. I have never broken any strings and I play on clay 95% of my time. I tend to hit a bit flat sometimes but I’m trying to get better at generating spin. It’s tough of course because playing tennis is hard. My errors are more on the “ball goes long” side than on the “it hits the net” side. I’m also working on ball placement because I still struggle a lot with making the ball go where I want.

I recently started competing and my official ranking is 2.5. I’ve only played a few official matches.
I’m 5’9’’ and 133 lbs. Mid-30s. Good overall shape. (I’m on the thin side). I’ve been running for +5 years and I eat well.

I used a Vcore 100 Plus (10.6oz) until recently but after it broke accidentally I just got an Ezone 100 2022 (10.6oz). I’ve always used multi strings and I plan on continuing like that for at least a couple of years until my technique gets better (footwork, generating more spin, etc). Then I might switch to poly. I used to use Head Rip Control but felt a bit muted and with not so much feeling. I also tried Xcel before and didn’t the like it that much.

I plan on stringing the Ezone with Prince Premier Control (16g). I often feel I don’t need to swing too fast in order for the ball to fall deep into the court. Actually sometimes it goes out, but it’s a technique issue 98% of the time. I’d like to have a little bit more control though. I see that string (PPC) recommended everywhere and I’d like to try it.

Since the Ezone is a powerful racket, do you think stringing it with PPC at 55lbs is too overkill and would I risk arm problems? I’ve never strung that high before. Or should I string it somewhere between 50-52?

Also, any other recommendations? Anyone else using PPC on an Ezone?

Thanks.

You could always experiment with hybrids if you feel you want to ease yourself into polys. I currently have Velocity MLT mains at 56 lbs and Poly Tour Pro crosses at 52 lbs (both 1.30 mm) in my EZONE 100 with no arm issues and I'm at the tail end of recovering from TE last spring.

You may want to look into Tecnifibre Triax, which is a multi/poly mixed together in one string. I'm not saying it's necessarily the best idea for you, but could be worth a look.

PPC, being a lower powered multi, is a perfect string for someone playing with a powerful racquet like the Ezone 100 and who doesn't want to use polys. I don't think you're going to risk soreness by going up a few pounds.

My only other suggestion is to try natural gut once. (Or natural gut mains with syn gut crosses.) Best feel, best comfort, best tension maintenance. If you don't break strings too often, it'll last you a long time. Back in my 3.0 days, I'd get six months out of a stringjob.

Any particular natural gut string that you can recommend? Control oriented.

Thicker gauge string would give you more control, all things equal. Babolat used to sell a cheaper thick gauge NG called Tonic, but now they rebranded it as VS 15L and it's the same price as the rest of the VS line. I'd go with that if money weren't an option, but the Wilson 16 is $10 cheaper and plays about as good.

My wife plays with Triax 1.28 in her Ezone 100 and she loves it. The 1.28 will be plenty durable at you level and more playable than the thicker gauges in my view.

I used to play with Ezone 100 and I think the racket is quite string sensitive. I did use Yonex Rexis Speed full bed at 55 lbs and it's so stiff like a board. Tried hybrid and my favourite multi for the cross is TF X-One Biphase with most poly.

I found fullbed Yonex Poly Tour Pro yellow at 50lbs tension max (you can go lower) is the best for Ezone100. Not too stiff but makes the racket more lively.

Thanks. Thing is polys make the back of my shoulder my upper arm a bit sore the day after I play.

I tried Head Lynx (not Tour/Touch, just Lynx) at 48lbs on mains and 46lbs on crosses. I LOVED the control it gave me. It was really great. But my shoulder upper arm hurt the next day (never happened to me with multi), so I didn’t want to risk having an injury.

The only multi fullbed that I ever tried was TF X-One Biphase and Yonex Rexis Speed. Both multis are not spin friendly unfortunately. Despite being comfortable and soft and powerful, it lacks of spin and ball positioning for me.

So far, my go-to setup:
Main: Poly at 46lbs or lower
Cross: Multi at 50lbs or slightly lower

Previously, I used Restring Zero at 46 on main and X-One Biphase at 50 on cross and I really like it. If your shoulder is sensitive, you can drop another 2lbs on each to try. The only downside is that the Zero bites the Biphase so much and the combo does not last long. Now I'm trying Head Hawk at 46 lbs on main and Head Velocity MLT at 50 lbs on cross as I got them on sale back on black friday 2023. But if I have to settle my string choice, I might choose Restring Zero with X-One Biphase combo.

Didn’t mean my shoulder sorry. English not being my first language.

I meant the back of my upper arm.

Thanks for your input.

I have a set of Rexis Comfort strings coming in. Never played with a multi. Any suggestions for tension on an Ezone 100? I am thinking 52-55?

I put 52 of rexis comfort on Ez100SL (wife's racket) and it's alright, not too plush but not too stiff. But be aware if you're buying Rexis Speed, that's the stiffest multi I've ever tried, esp on EZ100 which is string sensitive.

About your setup, what's your usual string setup?

I usually play with Yonex Polytour Drive or Pro around 46 in my Ezone.
I was hitting around last week with a friends racquet that had a massively stiff poly in it, and all it took was one off center/frame hit to send my arm in to pain-town.
I want to try and ease back with a multi and then maybe get back in to a softer poly again.
I would also try syn gut, but my understanding is the multis are better.

Alright so I tested PPC @ 53 on mains and 51 on crosses. Strings started getting out of place after 5 minutes of hitting with the racket. I feel like my technique is quite solid for now but I hit a bunch of balls long. Confort was really good tho. Didn’t feel the control that much.

Don’t know. I feel like I need to start experimenting with poly in order to gain more control an less power.

Thanks everyone.

Rexis comfort was for sure comfortable on the Ezone 100. I went with 54# tension.
After the first set the strings started to fray a good amount. Two sets in they looked a lot worst. Lots of long rallies on clay. Lasted about 6-7 hours until they snapped.
I don't hit groundstrokes with a ton of topspin, but I kick serve like an animal.
No arm pain at all though, which is what I was looking for.
Moving to Poly Tour Air now before trying to ease back in to my usual polys.

I use the Ezone 100 and play with multi strings. I think the racquet is well suited to multi string as the string pattern is decently dense in the sweet spot area.

The multi strings that I think work really well in the Ezone 100 are :

1. IsoSpeed Professional Classic (1.30)
2. Tecnifibre X-One (1.30 or 1.34)
3. Tecnifibre NRG2 (1.32)

I put the first one at 25 kg and the last two options at 24 kg. Works really well for me.

Still using the same string for 100sl?

Looking to string 100sl for beginner female friend

Wife has not started playing again after my second born child arrived. So it's still with the Yonex Rexis Comfort since first purchase. Oh well...
