Murray against big servers

Murray has a great record against big servers such as Roddick, Karlovic, Isner, Tsonga, but what is it about Raonic's game that bothers Murray so much??Murray is meant to be a great returner, but I've seen Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, and Ferrer return Raonic's serve better than him. Why is that?

I don't think anything in particular, Raonic just hardly ever gets Murray on a good day. He's beaten him on a clay couple times, and this year while Murray was out of form. When Murray is in form he doesn't have a problem with him, like when he beat him at the USO.

Murray's game seems to suit Raonic's game. I think Murray will turn the table soon.

Berdych is another example too. Of course his ground game is better than Raonic

I felt like he was playing pretty well in Tokyo and Indian Wells, but he just got edged in Tokyo, and Indian Wells, he seemed gassed in the final set. I think they both didn't play very well in London. I agree that Murray schooled him at the US Open, I actually think Murray should be beating Raonic on clay too, since Raonic isn't much of a claycourter as well.

I dread when Murray has to play Berdych, even when Murray plays well, Berdych still beats him or comes close.

Murray's game and pace suit Berdych. I think Berdych is the kind of guy if he gets into opponent 's head, he won't let them turn the table easily and will be more confident when facing them.

If Berdych and Murray were to play on Grass, what do you think the outcome would be? on hardcourt it's 50:50 I don't think Murray could beat Berdych on clay, I think he'd have a better chance beating Nadal or Djokovic on clay than guys like Berdych or Wawrinka

If they met in QF, I think Berdych would prevail, if they met in Final I think Murray would prevail. The problems of Berdych that he's very inconsistency and still mentally fragile in big matches and important points. Murray's mental toughness did improve a lot since 2011

I noticed Murray doesn't return Berdych's serve very well

Berdych also has one of the best return on second serve, Murray's second serve is his weakness and Berdych knows it. He puts a lot of pressure on Murray with his powerful and high risk game. Also his confident against Murray is a factor too.

Match-ups are fascinating aren't they? This is one I'm fond of bringing up whenever we talk about Murray v Berdych. Consider:

Berdych is 6-4 v Murray

Simon is 6-3 v Berdych

Murray is 12-1 v Simon

So what is it that Simon can do against Berdych that Murray can't and what is it that Murray can do against Simon that Berdych can't?

Yeah considering Simon has the exact same playing style as Murray, it's just that Murray does everything a little bit better. Although Simon defends more than Murray and attacks less, so maybe that could be why.

Yea what a great stat, and indicative of how matchups work.

To me, the reason Simon leads Berdych unlike Murray is because Simon varies his pace more. He sort of lulls you to sleep and than pulls out a big shot from nowhere. He also doesn't hit the ball as clean an Murray. To me Murray gives Berdych more rhythm, and Berdych likes Murray's clean flat ball. Berdych (and pretty much everyone on tour) seems to dislike Simon's slow junky ball. Simon is also a bit of an enigma because his level fluctuates wildly even during matches. I think this messes with Berdych's head as well

I think this guy is on the right track. Berdych is better when people are feeding him pace. Simon isn't ashamed to feed you nothing balls down the center of the court if he thinks it'll win him the match.

Also Berdych is good at crushing lousy second serves. I remember him doing it to Fed at Cincy in 2011.
