.....because Federer was on the other side of the court...15..16 GS winer ......it is an indimidating fact and not easy to get past.........and when he shows you (murray)just what that means in a match...that just bums you out....makes you remember just how better he is at the moment............after that you are as good as done!

In the tennis brain department there is:

That alone makes him the best right now....probably ever.

Did not take his chances to come in when one of his shots got Federer wide. Del Potro at the US Open final hit a hard winner after Fed gave him a mid court forehand.

Murrays leg was injured, this match doesnt count!
Yeah, and his dog died right before the match!

His name is Andy. Federer doesn't lose to people named Andy in Grand Slams.
Well struck!

So Murray will at least win wimbledon 2025.
Yeah, by then the Brits will figure out they're going to have to 'help' their players - in 2025 the rest of the field will have to wear ankle weights when they play Murray - and play with wood rackets... :)

because Federer dominated him from start to finish. Even in that 3rd set when Murray got the break, it was a lot to do with Federer playing a sloppy game. Federer broke Murray back in a heartbeat.

Federer is just a better player and all this talk about Murray needing to be more agressive is non sense. Murray can be agressive when players give rhythm but against a guy like federer, Murray cant be agressive because Federer gives no rhythm at all.

Murray didn't win because he lost the most important point in the whole match and that was the last one.

I thought it was a toss up before the match started.

Fed played lights out. His forehand was a monster and his bh was as good as Ive ever seen it over the course of a match. Didnt break down at all. It can at times but thats usually when a match is real tight or rafa has made him hit millions up high where maybe the shoulder gets tired a little. Used his slice wonderfully. What was scary was his movement. His movement was awesome. Balanced for every shot. The guys workouts off ct must be amazing. Then his serve is amazing, the way he consistently hits spots and you can not pick up where hes going with it.

Murray didn't play real aggressive but with the way fed was playing I dont think it would have mattered. 2nd serve needs to get better. His bh is tops but the fh is not one of the biggest ones and that doesnt help him. He has a great fast torso rotation on it but doesn't get the extra wrist snap like a fed does and that makes it hard to hit winners with it. I agree w fed that he is too good a player not to win a GS and I believe if hes blessed with health that he will win multiple majors. He is in great physical shape and works hard. Whether its tennis or team sports many get to the finals and lose a couple or a few times before they win one. Lendl for one.

The ct really looked to play pretty slow which def agreed w fed and not as much w murray. Murrays bh takes away more time on a quicker ct. Then again fed has 5 us open titles , one against murray.

Fed looked great and shows no signs of slowing down. Is he even getting better. It almost looked that way in the final. Hope rafa gets well and look forward to the rest of the season.

because he didn`t get the title gifted as he hoped for.Just hoping for errors from the opponent to win a slam doesn`t work against Federer

Murray says his serve is his best shot. I'm not seeing it, his serving in the final was horrid.

Second problem is that Murray has no FH. There were so many balls that Murray could have cracked for FH winners. Del Potro would have cracked them. Gonzo. Verdasco. Davydenko. Pretty much any top 10 pro (other than Roddick) would have killed those FH balls. Murray needs to shore up his FH if he ever is to have the confidence to play more aggressively.

Here's what Boris Becker has to say.

Sunday's loss was closer, but not much, as only in the third set did the Briton begin to show the aggression and risk-taking necessary to disturb Federer's cruise to his 16th Slam.

Becker said Murray had played the best Slam of his career in Melbourne but needs to work on his aggression.

"How assertive he was in the final was always going to be crucial. At the very start of the match he went head to head with Roger, but he then reverted to his usual defensive game, and allowed Roger to play such great tennis," Becker wrote in the Daily Telegraph.

"Even when he had set points, in the third set, he could not take the big step. He tried to attack, but a mid-court forehand let him down. It is not a shot he would usually select, and on the big points, tennis players revert to instinct.

"It was a revealing moment, and one which showed that Andy now needs to improve technically, to ingrain the killer shot so deep inside him that it becomes instinctive to play it at the right moment, like Roger. That is the next stage in his progression.

"I was looking at Andy's box during the match and there was no one up there who knows what it is like to be out in a Grand Slam final.

"Don't get me wrong, 'Team Murray' are first rate - they have made Andy the third-best player on the planet - but you cannot learn the skills you need out on the centre court from a book, or from hearsay.

"You need to talk to people like John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, someone Andy would listen to and respect. For Murray, it is now about playing the right shot at the right time, not running or going to the gym."

Becker, who won Wimbledon three times, the Australian Open twice and the US Open once, ruled himself out of the job but said Murray needed someone who has achieved the ultimate in the game to be alongside him in the Slams to "talk about the five or so make-or-break shots in a match, and how best to play them".

"Andy will be among the top men's players over the next five years, but if he wants to be above them, not amid them, he needs to have someone in his corner who knows what it is like to win a Grand Slam, to climb the Mount Everest of tennis," Becker said.

"The air is thin up there, and Andy needs to surround himself with people who have been to the summit, who can describe to him how they got there, and how he can as well."

..... after he got dumped by his sexy girl for playing video games he realized that he would not be able to beat Fed unless he became a chubby chaser.....

Pros in the ATP locker room are speaking in hushed whispers of a "nadal curse". What i hear is that anyone who beats Nadal in a slam, does not go on to win the final. Examples sited were Soderling, Tsonga and Murray.

Do you think this could be true ???

I really hope Murray feels embarrassed by the two spankings Fed has delivered to him in GS finals. I hope the pain of the Aussie defeat in particular forces his hand. Aggressive, attacking tennis wins Grand Slams. Go out and win the thing Andy, don't wait for your opponent to die of boredom.

Such aggression, alloyed to his magnificent defensive skills would make Murray really fun to watch. But first he needs to rebuild his serve and totally, and I mean totally revamp his forehand. It may not be in his nature to change his game, but if he doesn't, well...

I'm calling it. Murray will not win a GS unless he decides to adopt a more aggressive stance on the court.

He can beat 99% of the players with his crafty counter-puncher game, but he wont beat Fed. with that game in a slam final.

Because he is terrified of losing. It forces him to play tight and hope the other guy plays poorly. (in big matches ie finals of slams)

He has the game to win multiple slams...but not the killer instinct.

Correct. You don't need to "out think" (whatever that means) Federer in a slam final, and you cannot out steady him in the way Murray tried becuase Fed has the best forehand in the history of tennis. The pace, spin and accuracy on his FH is enormous.

You have to bludgeon Fed in these finals.

The only thing that beats Fed in a GS final is consistent big power (yes, Delpo brought it to him) and Fed himself.

That is all.

Del Potro and Nadal at the AO in '09 killed Feds legs by the 5th sets with a relentless ground assault

Indeed.

I only see Fed weak on a tennis court when being pounded by big flat balls.

God that sounds gross.

That or wicked heavy high topspin to his backhand ad nauseum.
And someone with the ungodly speed to run down half his winners

needs:

1. bigger forehand

2. more aggressive mentality

3. bigger serve (he was grooving with it a while ago, but since has looked just ok.)

murray hates his errors more than he loves his winners.

until that changes he will not win a grand slam.
