Murray: Federer has lost it a little bit

OddJack

G.O.A.T.
Murray is rubbing his hands for the USO now. Everyone is patting his back for his aggressive play against Nadal, and he is giving himself promises of easier path to a major title saying Rodge has lost his mojo.

Mama Judy is filling in for Miles too, giving him tactics and strategy advice now.

I dont know. I dont mind him winning a major, he has been really trying, but come on, saying Rodge has declined and then " I am ready for USO" doesnt sound good.

specially when Rodge doesnt agree at all.

If I were Murray I would say the exact opposite. It would just make him look better, wouldnt it.

But this makes Murray a bit of a ******* then because he's saying he beat an out of sorts Federer, which Federer fans have been saying all along. Murray is being pretty respectable here, too respectable.

Jeez, people are soo defensive.

It doesn't matter what comrade murray says, roger is declining and that's a fact. I mean over 40 unforced errors against djoker? 3 years ago he'd beat joker without giving him a break point.

But in reality murray played best in toronto. djokovic played horrible as always, federer played shockingly bad sometimes, nadal played awful as well, especially against kohlschreiber. Berdych, murray and Del Potro look like favorites for the USO

of course the headline takes what Andrew said entirely out of context. The Scot could not have been more gracious. He could have said Fed's backhand was appalling. But he didn't. Did he?

What makes you think Delpo is a favorite at the Open? The guy hasn't played a competitive match in nearly 9 months.

"after losing to Murray in Toronto, Federer pointed out that it was not a slam, that the Scot still had to break through. He also let it be known that, without making excuses, he felt sore all over."

ergo, the loss at Toronto doesn't count!

How arrogant of Fed to lose it a little bit. How dimwitted, really, of Murray to read so much into a single loss of Federer (unless he is also referring to the WO and FO).

techinically, all he's saying is well known.

but really hes not being much of a sportsman. i'd like to see what he says once Federer hands him another straight sets Grand Slam beatdown. He got VERY VERY lucky in the Toronto final.

Murray is just taking his cues from the master, federer has set a great example over the years after all. When federer is down to his serve I am sure murray is going to start calling federer one-dimensional. :)

err...3 years ago djoker was a newcomer.

To me, what Murray and Fed said after the Montreal final in their interviews was quite realistic and complimentary to each other.

Both have said that Fed has lost a bit from his top form. This is obvious to anyone, and Murray articulated it quite politely.

Some people need to find the s*it where is none. Garbage away!

This would make it all ok if Rodge just went along with murray's words. Nice call andy, good analysis! ;)

This.
But what's new? Apparently a lot of folks have too much time on their hands, nitpicking every word said to have come out of players' mouths.

He was playing better 3 years ago than he is now. Didn't he make the USO final back in 2007? I could be wrong though, its tough trying to remember all the people Fed has beaten in major finals.

I would think the last thing that Murray would want to do is fire up an opponent that can beat you even if he is having a bad day. Murray just finds it impossible to keep his mouth shut, and it always bites him in the ***.

He's been on tour for a few years now but really started winning jn 2007. Fed wouldn't have beatin Djoker w/o getting broken anyways, US open final Djoker had set points in both sets. And Djoker won Toronto beating top 3 and Fed in the Final

AFAIK Delpo is not even playing at USO... How can he win without playing is a fascinating enigma :)
(BTW, in case people have already forgotten Murray owns Delpo in their head to head)

Further to what Marius_Hancu and Am96 said above - Murray would know very well that he beat a Federer who wasn't at 100%. Players can tell when their opponent is not on-form and Murray knows that a peaking Federer is much, much better than he was in Toronto.

Whether Federer can ever get back up near his 100% is yet to be seen, and while he probably wont get all the way there - he'll still have his days no doubt - but at Toronto played like complete plonker for big patches of his last 3 matches and still managed to struggle through and win 2 of them.

Remember that famous Rusedski quote, that Pete had lost "half a step"; Murray's words may come back to haunt him (though what he actually said was complimentary, only the press is distorting it as usual)

So.....without making excuses, he made an excuse....:-?

Murray should keep his moth shut until he wins something big, because raising expectations AGAIN is not going to help his mindset next time he's in a grand slam final. It's always easier to be an underdog.

You have to remember: it's not an excuse when Fed says it. He's different.

He's a straight shooter Tony 48. Especially when he says things like he had an injury that affected his play, an injury which all other players have as well. BAM BAM. :) I am surprised you can't see this. Cowboy Fed. THIRD BAM. :)

Fed made a comment before the final, saying (and I'm paraphrasing), "yeah, but he's never beat me in a final."

Murray just returned the favor and negated Fed's words by beating him in the final.

Now Fed says, "but, he hasn't done it in a major."

Anyway, nice response from Fed regarding his decline. Only time will tell.

Next it will be... "yeah, but he hasn't won 16 majors." Typical Federer

Federer on trick-shot video: Not saying it's real
(AP) –
MASON, Ohio — Roger Federer says there a little bit of magic at work in his trick-shot video that has drawn more than 1.2 million views on YouTube.

The video shows Federer knocking a metal can off a man's head with a serve while shooting an ad for Gillette. Then, he does it again, drawing applause from the crew. Federer's official website had a link to the video.

There were questions about whether it's really a trick shot or a video trick. Following his opening match at the Cincinnati Masters on Wednesday night, he was asked directly whether the video is real.

"Not saying that," is how he responded. Then he added that "a magician doesn't tell how his tricks work."

I dont know why they closed the threads on this.

That's funny!

Seems Murray is losing it a bit.

Jan 2010: i can cry like Federer but its a pity i cant play like him

Aug 2010: i can beat Federer at the USO.

Wow dude !

People see evil everywhere.

The media are ridiculous. All Murray said was that Federer is not as good as he was a few years ago. Does anyone disagree with that statement? Does anyone think that the Federer who went 81-4 in 2005 and 92-5 in 2006 isn't as good as today's Federer?

Agreed. As usual the person who wrote the headline for the article jazzed it up a little so to speak.

Murray was just stating the obvious and did so respectfully imo.

Ah yes more wonderful tennis "journalism" taken out of context. Federer has declined it is a natural thing. Hard to understand in the synthetic modern age. I like aggressive smash ball Murray. Cmon u Scottish Mofo take them all down in NY.

Players are better today. Federer is actually a better player than 2005. The reason why Federer wasn't racking up the slams was because Nadal was healthy - and Nadal at 100% is actually the best player this era has ever seen. Sorry Fed lovers!

You really need to work on your sarcasm skills. It comes off very tacky.

ha ha ha ha ha...

I might even agree that Nadal can eventually get better than Federer, if he isn't already, but the bolded part is just plain ridiculous even by your usual TW standards.

Federer's 2008/09 and 2010 level was good enough to straight set Federer in 2004-07.
