Murray finishes as 2nd Fan favourite after Federer

From ATP site

The 31-year-old Swiss has been voted ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite presented by RICOH for a record 10th straight year, receiving 57 per cent of all votes cast. British No. 1 Andy Murray finished second, just ahead of Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.

Roger as usual gets majority of votes. Murray finishes 2nd after his heroics this year. Doesn't say anything about Djokovic and Rafa votes but probably Djokovic would have got the least number of votes. Nevertheless congrats to Murray and his fans :)

Even with Rafa's long absence this year, I'm surprised Murray past him. Good for him though, he definitely deserves it. Murray is likable in a different way than the others. He doesn't have as much of a "star" personality as the other 3, he is more down-to-earth. I think it makes him a bit more relatable on some levels.

Murray's been a bridesmaid most of his career so this is not surprising, particularly against Federer at the slams. My god I never realized how much fun it could be to impersonate NSK.

Most fans don't know about these online polls. Murray was pimping himself out like crazy on Twitter to get votes while Nadal didn't put a link up to even let his fans know to vote for him. Polls like this are most likely not very accurate for many reasons.

With Nadal not playing I guess his fans need to make excuses for him losing POLLS now

No offence to Nadal and his fans but it was aj oke that had to be made

Murray was pimping himself out and that is why Nadal was ranked fourth out of the top four as fan favorite? Come on Clarky you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with excuses here. :) Facebook and Twitter are for pimping out, that is what they should be used for by any pro athlete. Why didn't Nadal and his PR team do the same? Also, the majority of people following Murray and Nadal are tennis fans and most tennis fans are very familiar with the top four. What was the excuse last year when Nadal lost fan favorite and Djokovic was in second place to Roger I believe? (correct me if I am wrong)

In any case, it doesn't matter what the top four do and how much they pimp out on FB and Twitter or not, as long as Federer is an active player he will always win the fan favorite and by a large margin. It is a no-brainer. The others can't compete no matter what they do or don't do. There are only so many times vbc can vote for Nadal before she gets tired. :)

The way the summary is written, I would think it more logical to assume that Djokovic was 3rd - had Nadal been 3rd it would have been more like written "came in ahead of Nadal and Djokovic"

You mean all three or four of them on here?

It's the truth, and I am not making excuses. I am also positive that in the real world,Murray is not more popular than Nadal. Cvac also finished ahead of him last year in this fan favorite poll. Do you also think he is more popular than Nadal too?

I also remember a few years ago some ******* admitted to voting thousands of times for Fed all by himself in this fan favorite poll. The online polls are far too easily manipulated to be accurate.

And since you seem to think Nadal isn't very popular, why did you bring him up when making excuses for Fed to attempt to get 2 million bucks just to show up in Basel? Didn't you say he and Fed are the ones who bring in the fans and they should get the money they want? Are you confused,cc?

well it doesn't say Nadal and Djokovic respectively so it can be anything, depends whose **** and/or hater are you :)

It's good to know that our new members that joined last month have studied the archives and have familiarized themselves with past members.

Or.................

I totally think Nadal is popular. I would say he is second to Federer worldwide and yes, they both bring more bodies to tennis than anybody else and should be paid more for appearance fees, etc.

I just checked and you are right , I guess proves it online polls are useless and not indicative of the reality.

Well I could've just as easily said 6-1 6-3 6-0 or RAFA2005RG. I wouldn't have to go very far to find those aliases. ;)

Andy Murray in the conversation as a fan favourite??? Does anyone actually watch his matches? The guy behaves like such a brat every time he misses a shot. I honestly can't stand him!
#noclass

Wow, Nadal appears to have fallen to 4th. This year he hasn't exactly exuded likability though

Nadal has been absent for half a year and except his most loyal fans, who has been following anything about him lately? It's kinda tough to win or be ranked high in anything when you haven't played for 6 months and your rivals have been grabbing the headlines and all the silverware.

Not sure why some of you are surprised that Murray is ahead of Nadal in this. Murray has won Olympics, USOpen and is rising as a player whereas Rafa has basically missed the second half of the season due to injury.

No matter how big you are, people forget you when you don't play.

Federer winning this is a no brainer, but I'm glad Murray came in at #2.

No one forgot him. If he would have done the same as Murray no doubt he would have been second.

Of course This is at least partly true. Still i expect rafa as 11 Time slam champ with his particular style to have à large fan base. I think it would also be interesting to See what happens If rog starts reducing his schedule and is not as Much in the picture. Wonder whether his popularity is really in a league of his own or the Same would happen for him

He does have a very large fanbase but I suspect that even the most ardent followers would be hard pressed to vote for him as THE fan favourite in 2012 when we saw him last in action in early summer. I don't think he could've beaten Federer but if he played throughout 2012 I think he would have placed second. It's weird to vote someone as fan favourite for 2012 when you've only seen him play five months this year(February was time off). Nadal wasn't there for some major events in tennis, Olympics, all the second half of the season MS, USOpen, WTF, DC final and his opponents were. Plus, since this voting occurs at the end of the season, the final impressions(how players perform USO-asian swing) do matter and Rafa had no fall season, his ended in early Summer.

No one forgot him. If he would have done the same as Murray no doubt he would have been second.

Yep. Murray is not second to Fed in popularity. Only bitter Nadal hater's would actually think these online polls are in any way accurate at all. Everyone else knows better..

Rafa not playing after Wimbledon had much less to do with his lack of votes than his play AT Wimbledon. The Rosol changeover incident sealed the deal on him not winning this year. :(

And you know this how? What about last year, what was the reason that Nadal came in third behind Djokovic? Why must obsessive Nadal fans come up with excuses why their hero lost the fan favorite and not only lost, came in fourth?
Just suck it up and accept it.

No, in reality it is a politically motivated award. Tennis is a business and the ATP wants Roger as the face of tennis and rightly so. It is as simple as that really.

How do you know he came in 4th? As far as I know they never announced the bottom 2.

And again these polls are not accurate and are far too easily manipulated by people like that ******* I told you about who admitted to voting thousands of times for Fed all by himself. You yourself also admitted that you think Nadal is second in popularity to Fed so why do you keep bringing up Nadal finishing behind Cvac last year? Do you or do you not think Nadal is more popular and a bigger draw than Cvac or Murray?

I thought it was published that he came in fourth? On the ATP site it says:

" (Singles) Roger Federer: The 31-year-old Swiss has been voted ATPWorldTour.com Fans’ Favourite presented by RICOH for a record 10th straight year, receiving 57 per cent of all votes cast. British No. 1 Andy Murray finished second, just ahead of Djokovic and Rafael Nadal."

Just the way they wrote it I assumed Nadal came in fourth. Last year it was published that Djokovic came in second as fan favorite ahead of Nadal.

I do think Nadal is more popular than Djokovic and Murray globally but that is why it is surprising to me that Nadal does not even come in second in these fan fave awards. Doesn't make sense. Maybe a lot of his fans are really not tennis fans first but just adoring Nadal fans? I don't know. A lot of those fans on his on Twitter and FB seem like really scary obsessive fans to me, like starstruck individuals. I mean have you read some of those Twitter timelines? "I miss Rafa", "I love Rafa", "Rafa is so gorgeous", etc. They sound like blathering fools.

I don't think that is written to say that Nadal finished 4th or else they wouldn't have said Murray finished just ahead of him. How can can Andy, who finished 2nd, finish just ahead of someone who finished 4th? Makes no sense.

There are many Fed fans who are the same way. I have seen many of them on this website admit that when Fed retires they will be done with tennis because he is tennis to them.

Have you ever been on Fed's forum on his website? If you want to see crazy you should read through that place. The hero worship there is staggering.

And I don't think there's anything wrong with fans saying they miss him and want him back on the tour. What's so weird about that?

And while you're checking out Fed's forum, don't miss the "Roger's Tummy", "Roger's eyes", "Roger's legs",and "Roger's face" threads when there are a bunch of drooling fools in there worshipping Fed's looks. All of these guys have fans who like their looks(even Cvac ). Nadal is a good looking guy so of course you are going to have people say things like that, but it's not representative of all of his fans.

It says Andy finished second ahead of Djokovic and Nadal so obviously Djokovic finished third and Nadal fourth or Nadal third and Djokovic fourth right? Why do you care so much in any case? Nadal did not come in second that is the important point.

Yes there are some Fed fans who are not tennis fans as well, but I think there are more Nadal fans who are groupies rather than tennis fans.

You don't think it is weird for a fan to go on everyday often multiple times a day and say how they miss Nadal? I think it is very adolescent behavior which makes sense because many of Nadal's fans are younger but many of these fans are adults and that kind of fan behavior is sickening imo for an adult.

And yes I have been to RF.com and as I have said before, it is sickening over there in the forum section. Most fan sites of any famous athlete or celeb are sickening.

I'm surprised. Murray as a fan favorite? Maybe because he's the "lovable loser" because he certainly doesn't seem fan-friendly to me. Neither does Federer actually, but he's the biggest name in tennis so naturally he'd be #1.

The multiple voting is easily fixed by 'distinct' on IP :) That's usually the first step in cleaning online polls.

...Unless the voter is running to a new household each time he wants to vote, then it's just hats off to him/her, that's true dedication :)

Sorry but thats false, it hardly takes a second to change the IP ;)
