You nailed it.Murray's mental attitude and focus, has often been the weakest part of his game,especially when playing in Grand Slam finals! Of course this is only relative to the top 3 players (Rafa,Fed and Djoko) who happen to be the only guys he's played in Grand Slam finals.His mental attitude may be weaker than their's but it can still knock spots off pretty nearly everybody else!

(Except maybe Donald Young and Alex Bogomolov...lol! ) :)

I would not say he is the best in the world but he is definitely top 5 material and who knows how far he could go IF, and it is a big IF, he can get his mental game together. He actually really impressed me in that MC match with Nadal. He has the game to beat all the top guys. He just needs to believe in himself more and not get down on himself.

yes. murray is a very good player. he has plenty of power and can really whack the ball but unfortunately he likes to play a pusher game too much (unless his elbow is hurt:D) especially in tight situations.

he should go for it more then he can win slams.

At times he seems to have really figured out how to compete on clay. He moves well on clay, defends well on any surface and seems to pull an offensive shot out of nowhere on the dirt. Honestly, clay may be where he plays his best tennis this year. Murray may disguise his intentions better any other player, but he is still not going to beat Nadal on red clay. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are all more talented. They all have more effective game styles, strategy and possess more confidence under pressure. How do I know this? Because they win majors and Murray doesn't.

But I do believe he is one of the most gifted players at running down balls, staying calm and controlling balls that seem impossible to even get to (much less win the point). I would say that he and Nadal are the most effective in those situations.

I hate how you experts keep upping the requirements for a player to be called the best or greatest in the world.

16 slams was not good enough, they invented H2H. Now, even H2H is not good enough. Now one is expected to win a slam. That's seven freaking games in a row, did you know that ? !!!!

At Monte Carlo, Murray was the best injured player in the world. I've never seen an injured Nadal take a set off the #1 player, for instance. Even The King would retire if not totally fit. Only Murray can beat the #1 while dizzy, and numbed with cortisone and anesthetics.

H2H Murray 5 - Delpo 1 (with 3 of those wins coming in 2009 when Delpo was at the height of his form!).

PS.He kinda owns Fed a bit too (H2H 8-6 including beating him 2 of out of the last 3 times they met).

He used to own Djoko too winning their 3 previous meetings back to back in straight sets up until meeting the new,improved version at the final of this year's Aussie Open.(But then,nobody else has been able to handle the new,improved Djoko so far)!

Thats right how many GS titles does Murray have? Oh, zero you say; then how in the h3ll can he even be mentioned as a candidate for best player in the world???

I'm not the one trying to say he's the best in the world! All I was doing was defending his record against the top 3 and Delpo when it was implied he was a much worse player than any of them.Of course their Slam records are all indisputably superior to his but then so is Roddick's,Hewitt's and Ferrero's.Does that make them better players on their current form than Murray?

The best player in the world is Nadal folllowed by Djokovic and then Federer because that's what the rankings say.Murray comes in at No.4!

There's a difference between 'best' and most accomplished over the last 12 months. A player's precise level of excellence varies day to day.

Murray is still evolving to his prime, he's reached 3 GS finals already as an developing player. Mentally we all know he isn't prime yet but he's still cultivating his weapons, and he's still got alot of game. You can't say the same for Djoker or Nadal at this point which are both in there primes.

I'm not saying Murray is better than Nad/fed/djok but his game allows himself a lot more room to grow right now.

^well, some people do develop slower.

I agree he is still developing where Djok and Nadal have both found their games by the same age.

Of course, I think the tour is full of players with weapons that can't seem to put the whole package together. I hope Murray can find it because it'd be much more intriguing to see each of these players being consistently dangerous against each other.

Djokovic has ended every single year ranekd higher than Murray. Djokovic has never had a career losing record vs Murray. Djokovic has had better slam results than Murray every single year. Djokovic has always been a far superior player to mopey Murray. And dont even get me started on Federer or Nadal, Murray isnt worthy of kissing their feet.

Personnally I think that Murray is a great player but not the best player in the world. Nadal is.

Murray has a few problems:

1) His forehand is not great and usually you need a top class forehand to reach the top.

2) He is prone to be upset in early rounds for no reasons.

3) He is not clutch, his 3 finals of GS have been a disaster for him and the last one was just ridiculousely bad. He totally missed his match.

And to say that he is better than Nadal, who has 9 slams , way more MS and who is 10-4 against him is a joke.
