Murray racquet in Montpellier

It looks like Murray’s racquet in Montpellier does not have the usual black grommets. Just curious if it’s his usual PT or something else?

Geez, people...PT57A 16x19 in latest Radical 360+ PJ with matching Orange grommets
Shows how much commentators know, last match of his I watched recently, Petchey was saying that he plays with 18x20 and should consider going to 16x19 to get more free power.

Pro tip, if there is one main skip in the throat and head, it’s a 16/19. Murray’s racquet is the same racquet.

Oh yeah I know. The commentators were discussing how Murray could make life easier for himself, with his fake hip. Petchey suggested a change from his usual 18x20, which he has obviously never used.
I think he used a 18x20 when younger (probably still junior)...I seem to recall some pics of him with a i.Radical pj in 18x20.

I think he did use one when he was much younger, or at least tried 18x20 for a while back when Petchey was his coach in the 00s. I have seen Petchey try and use his 'insider' knowledge in an interview with Murray about string tensions in FO 2016(?). Murray corrected him there on assumptions he made based on very old and outdated knowledge of Murray's preferences and setup. If I remember rightly Petchey was trying to suggest Murray would drop his string tension to compensate for the heavier conditions (really wet tournament that year) and Murray shut it down straight away, saying he never changed his tensions, like Rafa.

Petch is living in the past. He was Murray’s coach for a short period in 2006 when Murray was still using an 18x20. I have no idea when the switch to 16x19 happened, but a quick Google search would suggest 2008.

(Muzzah at Wimby 2006 - 18x20. And of course everyone on here knows that’s not an i.Radical!)

Like DR325i said. Andy did used to switch through the 18x20 version on the clay. But for the most part of the last 18 months he’s been sat on the 16x19.
@dr325i is the man with the facts.

These were Murray sticks in Biella two weeks ago: PT57a 16x19 as always.
All credits to the on site stringer at the Challenger.

He’s used 18x20 throughout his career on clay (including recently)
The 16x19 is his usual setup

Something like this ;)

I remember reading he used 18x20 on clay only, and that sounded a bit weird to me, I had my doubts if this was for real.
So, Murray was seeking more control where usually players look for more power and spin. It's strange, but he knows way more about tennis than me

^^^Its good to have racquet experts around to point. But as the saying goes “knowledge puffs up.” If you’ll notice that the guys who claim to have the most knowledge are truly puffed up with the pride that they are champions and captains among mere unlearned buffoons. Again, if they were ever stranded in the desert or in some obscure place, they wouldn’t have food or water, maybe not even clothing, but at least they would have their lofty knowledge and racquet indignation. Lol
Was not my intent and if it came across like that, I apologize. But a few “buffoons” just keep annoying the heck out of me, like that guy and his measurement of the Karatsev racket length (which is a standard 685mm)

I'll be interested to see if Murray stays with the orange grommets, I seem to recall he used them before but later returned to the black saying they felt different.

a slightly different shade of Orange this time, LOL

Didn't they sell orange cap grommets for the graphene radical at the time? Think that'll ever pop up again?

I have been impressed with the colors head has been able to produce and match across paint and the grommets. Usually the grommets have a less saturated hue in the finished product.

@dr325i

Heard from my local rep the HEAD aren't producing the Cap Grommets for the new Radical Pro. Can you confirm that? I have a client who wants to change to the Radical but not willing if he can't get CAP grommets.

New Radical Pro (TK352) is a different mold and string pattern from the previous (TK291), so, correct -- whatever is on it it what they make.

Hope you guys have a fireplace.

No such luck here. Last week my power was off for 5.5h on for 1.5h for 5 days, below freezing for the whole time, one night of which it hit zero. My interior would get down to around 50-55 degrees while the power was out. Not very easy to convince my kids to keep their warm clothes on inside. Luckily no property damage.

We do have 2 fireplaces in the house -- they serve as decoration, not really to warm up the house.
We were out of power for 16 hours Monday 2:30AM and on. It was 46F in the house.
Knock on the wood - only damage is to the pool equipment that froze and cracked

I can't see Murray using a Gravity. Going from a prestige oval shaped head to a Gravity, very round shaped head would be one hell of a change!
