Murray to never end a year ranked higher than Djokovic?

It looks like we are about to have another season end with Djokovic as year end #3 and Murray as year end #4 (or lower). More proof that Djokovic >> Murray. Some complain that Djokovic underperforms and yet he ends each year ranked above Murray. Murray will probably never end a year ranked higher than the more talented Djokovic.

You can't beat a bit of TT hubris.

Novak essentially has a 780 lead on Murray - there are around 4500 points still up for grabs between now and year end. Not quite the lock you make it out to be.

Maybe it isnt a lock but it seems unlikely Murray would pass Djokovic in the year end rankings. So as usual Djokovic will probably end the year ranked above the less talented and successful Murray, despite Murray's getting more hype.

Novak makes QF's in Shanghai and Murray wins it then Murray is ahead. I'm not saying that's what will happen, I'm saying it's closer than you think and that your post is a bit hubristic.

Djoker may end the year at #2 and Murray #5

What's the likelihood of Berdych ending above Soderling - that's what I want to see happen.

I dont see Djokovic outperforming Federer by enough this fall to take #2 but we will see. It isnt impossible either. Yeah Murray could definitely fall lower, Soderling could pass him and even Berdych could. It depends if Murray has a 2008 like fall or a 2009 one.

Unless Federer shows up at Shanghai and makes at least the quarters... hey may be struggling for points if he fails to perform well in other events.

Murray was injured during Autumn 2009 - hence him defending nothing in Beijing and Shanghai.

Poor batz, looks like you constantly have to deal with either delusional "fans" of Murray or people who are ready dismiss him in an instant.

Close to 0 I'd say lol. Berdych isn't exactly in good form, and even at his best is prone to losing to nobodies. Soderling has proved that he is able to win even when not playing well, and will usually make it to at least the QF, whereas Berdych can go out in the 1st round lol (like USO). He'll still make the WTF though, so no worries there.

Djokovic is perhaps the most consistent player on tour when it comes to making the later rounds of events. Murray can lose to people like Fish early in a tournament, which is why Djokovic always seems to have more points than him. Despite that, I'd say Murray has a better chance of winning a major than Djokovic has of winning another one (I actually think both will happen).

I wish Berdych would get his act together. I have great hopes for the boy. He plays powerful tennis, similar to Soderling, but with more grace and style. I know it doesn't matter and it's the result that counts, but still... I like to watch him play and I hope he will win a grand slam... soon.

I think right now Murray is more focused on winning a GS than on the rankings. Murray has earned more points this year in mandatory tournaments than Djokovic.

OTOH, with a GS already in his bag, Djokovic can focus more on the rankings. And contrary to Murray, he plays a lot of non-mandatory tournaments where he usually does well, which explains his being ahead in the rankings.

But this could prove costly to Murray, because Soderling is really close to him at the race (less than 100 points). I wouldn't be surprised if Murray ends the year as #5.

Same here. I like watching Berdych play, but I rarely get my hopes up for him. He is what he is. A great talent that will usually implode and occasionally surprise on the big stage.

Like what exactly? The only non-mandatory events he played this year that Murray didn't were Rotterdam and Belgrade. He retired early in Belgrade so that amounted to nothing points wise.Murray also played LA when Djok didn't so that pretty much balances out and then when you factor in that Djokovic missed the mandatory Madrid event due to illness,I really don't see where your point of Nole apparantly doing well in a whole load of extra mickey mouse tournaments comes into play...

OK maybe he doesn't play "a lot" more non-mandatory tournaments than Murray but the fact is that he does much better than Murray in those. He won Dubai (500 points) where Murray lost in the second round (45 points). He reached the SF in MC (360 points). He earned 280 points in the DC. Add to this the SF in Rotterdam (180 points). Now he's in the SF in Beijing where Murray went out in the QF.

Summary of this year
Mandatory: Murray 3830 points, Nole 3460
Non-mandatory: Nole 1385, Murray 305

Yeah glad we've established that he doesn't play more, he just does better in what he has played. Also why we're treating MC as non-mandatory I'm not really sure.I mean I know it is but Fed is the only top player who doesn't play so for the two players concerned(Murray and Djokovic) who both played,it should be regarded as a Masters 1000 in this analysis. Also Djokovic missed Madrid through illness so that throws out the mandatory calculation somewhat,on top of the fact you haven't counted MC in Djok's mandatory points but instead beefed up his non madatory calculation. That would only be fair if Murray hadn't played but he did and 1000 points were on offer for both. You would have a point if Murray was clearly out-performing Djokovic in madatory events but in truth he hasn't,there's nothing in it,much of a muchness and if you look at slams,Djokovic has the better overall record for the year..

Murray:
AO:Final
FO:4th round
W:SF
US:3rd round

Djokovic:
AO:QF
FO:QF
W:SF
US:Final

Djokovic has been better in the slams but when you look at titles won Mugza has a master series while djokovic has a 500 so far this year.

its good to win big titles to prove your worth too.
