These guys met earlier this year in Indian Wells. Davydenko won 2-1. Good win over Gonzo for Andy. I still like Nikolay in 4 sets.
 
Was anyone watching this match before the rain came? I've been having to look at the scores online. Is there anything to suggest Murray can fight back? I want him to beat Davydenko. I hope Gilbert gives him some good advice during the rain break.

How can Murray win in 4 sets when he is down 2 sets to 1? It's a good thing you're not a betting man. I'm sticking with my original prediction of Davydenko in 4 sets.
 
Looks like a bad matchup for Andy, Gilbert needs to pull some magic tricks or else Andy is going home.
 
It didn’t look to good for Murray today. That said, he will have the benefit of talking it over with Gilbert. So Murray in five.
 
Davydenko was not even playing well for his standards when they left, and he still managed to win the 3rd, and almost win the 2nd set. He will likely come out alot sharper tommorow, there really isnt much Murray can do to win the match I think.

P.S. This match should already be over. Nikolay was making so many unforced errors in the 2nd set and the beginning of the 3rd set.
 
Anyone just see that point? must have been like 20-30 point rally Davy just pushing murray around the court at break point and finally downt he line forehand winner to take the point. Murray comes back after running through all that with a return winner to get a second breakpoint. Loses that second one after Davy pushes him around again and it's Deuce #3 Davy serving up 3:0 in the fourth set, up 2 sets to 1.

Murray just isn't fit enough to consistently perform at the top deep in tournaments, Gilbert definitely needs to get him conditioned.
 
Davydenko is leading 4-0. Goes to show that Brad Gilbert ain't that good after all. I mean he had 20 hours to adjust the game plan with Andy and what does he get? Andy down two breaks that's what.

i totally agree. i'm one of those posters who hasn't bought into all the gilbert hype (and probably never will). all this talk about how he's such a mental guru, i just dont buy it. in the end, the player has to execute, to be sure. but a whole day to come up with a game-plan after dropping the third set, and murray ain't doing SQUAT! 5-0 to davydenko.

totally. the guy is like a backboard. and that was the murray/gilbert game-plan?? to try to out-backboard the backboard?? great strategy. and how bout a plan b or c??? cos they're plan a ain't workin.

mcenroe and courier are making excuses for murray, like he doesn't have the legs. but he's had a whole day off. and they've only played FIVE games!!! gimme a break.
 
great effort by murray. what a lame-ass. at least, no more gilbert talk, so i can't complain.

i know davydenko likes to grind it out from the back, but if he came in on some of those crisp shots of his, he would have a LOT of sitter volleys to put away. end the points quicker. even though i know it's not his style. but to beat some of the better guys . . .

P.S. Murray isn't a robot. Don't blame BG for what Murrray does or doesn't do on the court. Coaches don't win or lose matches...players do.
 
Hope that bagel tasted good Murray. With your attitude I am sure you ordered it with some extra rich cheese, but instead was jammed down with some sloppy jam and peanut butter. :)
 
The 17th seed made it to the final 16 and lost to the 7 seed, I cant comment on how he went out as I did not see it but some of the comments above sound downright mean and nasty but hey thats the beauty of the web.
 
is it possible davydenko has a coach too, and they came up with a better game plan overnight than murray/gilbert? it seems like evreyone is almost saying davydenko beat murray and gilbert single handedly, give his coach some credit, if you are willing to blame gilbert for murray.

So are you saying that every time Murray hit the ball out it was Gilbert holding the racquet?

here's the deal. i'm one of those "coaches coach, but players still have to go out there and play" kind of guys. so, lots of times, i think that coaches get WAY too much credit for results. I'm not saying coaches aren't important . . . but you gotta keep it in perspective.

on this board, since gilbert took over murray a little while back, there has been A LOT of talk about the impact gilbert has made on murray, in such a short time. same goes for roddick and connors. like suddenly, they are completely new players out there. when a coach is given THAT much credit for a change in form, or a good result or two . . . then it is only natural that they take the brunt of the criticism for a bad loss/run. gilbert took heaps of credit on this board for murray's win over decent (but not stellar) opposition. even the win over fed was blown WAY out of perspective. today, after a day off to regroup, his man goes out and wilts against a very good player in davydenko. so, in my mind, gilbert is getting a good pasting, deservedly so.
 
Bageled. Maybe Murray ran out of gas again but he was slated to lose this match according to his seeding.
 
i like Davydenko more, the more I see him, but its a pity Murray lost. I was hoping to see one of his matches. I've heard that he is good at constructing points rather than bashing away to glory, so I was eager to see him on TV.
