Murray vs Fed’s first 10 GS opponents

No one's ever been able to explain why wind is supposed to help Murray more than his opponents. In the 2009 Indian Wells final, on a very windy day, he lost heavily to Nadal. How come the wind didn't come to his aid there?

TBH a player deserves extra credit for winning in windy conditions, because of how tough it makes things. Being skillful enough to impose your game in tough conditions adds to the victory imo.

I didnt mean it like that he seemed to find a gear in that events more so when it happened IIRC obviously it is oppenents fault if they do not adapt to it. Murray played very well to end the Cllic match and in the last 2 rounds. 2009 Murray was below 2012 Murray who showed up in slam events i think.

When it comes to handling strong wind on court, it's Federer/Nadal > Murray > Djokovic :)

You see all those facts on one side, and on others side you see Fed fans repeating "he must get to final first", and repeating how Hewitt and RodDick were so good... o_O

It's insane level of insanity... :cautious:

I will repeat my self, but Murray is most unlucky sportsman (not tennis only) that ever lived...
Those stats certainly are an eye opener. Murray would be a 12+ slam winner in any other era for sure.

Are you aware of the fact Roddick beat Murray at Wimbledon in 2009? Murray was better in his prime, but Roddick was also better in 2004. So wouldn't be too sure of it.

Most people said Murray would lose to Roddick in Wim 04.

Lol. Murray’s not unlucky, he just wasn’t good enough to win more slams. Didn’t have an ATG mentality. He had a nice long healthy career with just one major injury (surgery in 2013), which he recovered from very quickly, until his body hit a wall in his early 30s. I could name like a hundred tennis players who would have killed to be so “unlucky.”

So you don't think having to undergo back surgery (shortly after winning Wimbledon) and then hip replacement surgery (just after getting to #1) was unlucky? Ummm.....okay then!

Incidentally, he's the only current player to have won titles in every single category of tennis tournament going. Not bad for a guy who apparently doesn't have an ATG mentality!

That is unlucky, but not the most unlucky of any sportsman ever. Not even as unlucky as many of his contemporaries. And the poster I replied to wasn’t even talking about his injuries but rather his competition. Which, sure, wasn’t an easy era, but a much more limited player like Wawrinka was able to win as many slams, and Murray really has no one but himself to blame for crumbling in so many major finals. He had the opportunity to win more slams than he did, even given the people he was playing. But I probably don’t need to be so harsh. Murray’s a fantastic player and I shouldn’t let inane arguments from anonymous internet trolls get to me.

I really think wind did help Murray that day... Novak for some reason hate windy conditions, I think it's just some psychological thing...

But on the other hand that doesn't devolve Andy's win at all. He handled conditions better an deserved a win 100%.

Sometimes conditions help some player sometimes it help opponent, and in many matches played it kinda sort out... We all know about famous W SF roof that helped Novak for sure...

You really think it's same to play Federer, Nadal and Djokovic in slam finals... Or play Hewitt, RodDick and similar? Someone should tell that to Federer who has about 95% wins in slam finals against one group and about 30% against other group... Fed don't have ATG mentality too?

Be real, please, you have so telling numbers in front of you...

Murray leads 8-3 the h2h with Roddick.

Check Roddick's words on the level of tennis years after 2009:

" I remember in the 2012 Olympics, I played Novak 2nd round. I was unseeded but had won a couple weeks before and won two of the last three tournaments I played in so I was feeling great. I felt like Wimbledon was a place where I could still catch lightning in a bottle, make a bit of a run. Felt great in practice that week, went out 2nd round. Novak was someone who I had a decent record against at that point and he beat me like a drum. I was like a child on the court and I didn't play that bad. I lost two and two on grass. I walked off the court and thought I'm going to go out tomorrow and feel like I'm playing well. He just beat me like a drum and that was one of the first times where I thought this game is getting a little bit different than what I've been used to, these guys are from another planet right now. That one kind of hit home for me. The way he was playing in that moment was eye opening."

(in this same tournament Murray beat Djokovic)
