Murray's Average 2nd Serve Speed in AO Final

Murray's average 2nd serve speed in today's AO final was 134/KPH. That was slower than both Maria's and Serena's average 2nd serve speed in the women's final. Maria averaged 153/KPH while Serena came in at 150/KPH. That is just crazy to me and explains why Muzz won so few points behind his second delivery.

Why is Muzz's 2nd serve so slow?? Does it go back to his generally conservative playing style?

I think the pace on it is really slow but maybe its all shape. So it harder to really on load on it.

Also Murray court coverage is so good that he can get away with such a week second serve most of the time.

I think he needs to get it up to around 160's personally.

Absolutely but it's still a significant difference between Sharapova's 153kph and Murray's 134kph.

It's pretty impressive for Sharapova to average 153kph on her second serves considering that her fastest serve for the match was clocked at only 177kph. Compared to Murray whose fastest serve was 213kph.

*Assuming the numbers were accurate however I would take serve speed numbers with a grain of salt especially if you get something like this:

That's not saying much though really

For his ranking Murray's second serve is quite poor. Obviously compared to the WTA his second serve is great.

I get that speed doesn't tell the whole story, but his 2nd serve is bad and very slow compared to his peers. Also, its not like Murray is putting a bunch of kick on his 2nd serve. Its more slice than anything else. His 2nd serve style reminds me of Berdych's whose 2nd is also bad.
