Murray's second Gold, bigger than his second wimbledon?

There's a case for this. Of course Singles gold by itself is not worth as much as a Wimbledon title. However quite a few players have won 2 wimbledon titles. Quite a few have won more than two. 2 single's golds however stands alone. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic all have their own unique records in the sport. This is now a unique accomplishment of Murray's own, and a record that will probably not be matched for years and years (and not be broken for years and years more).

On the plus side, just nine or ten more Slams, and suddenly he'd be right there in the discussion for 3rd best of his own generation. So he's got that going for him, which is nice.

No, but if he wins a 3rd consecutive gold, it would be the greatest achievement in sports history, narrowly surpassing Pele's 1283 goals.

Despite what the clueless idiots on here say the second olympic gold is bigger than the second wimbledon without doubt. Reason? Because murray says so!! End of debate.

From an Olympics perspective, a gold medal is a gold medal whether an athlete competes in an individual or a team event in the same sport(e.g. Phelps individual and medley relay in swimming). Wimbledon will always be the holy grail of tennis while an Olympic tennis is like another Master 1000. Unless if it's track/field which is the most popular summer Olympic Sport then a superstar Usain Bolt 2 gold medal is comparable to tennis Wimbledon title. Another thing is Olympic tennis has very little impact on a highly successful pro tennis player' legacy, and Murray has achieved a lot unlike Nicolas Massu who isn't even famous for his 2 gold medals.

So much effort to see if Federer and Nadal ... or Nole or Laver ... or another were the GOAT ... and eventually is Andy Murray if he wins not slam final , M1000 ... but Olympic Gold .

What luck that I have to cheer Murray , the GOAT .

B-movie Horror.

Definitely yes. The two golds is now Murray's own record, and a very hard one to beat at that. 2 Wimbledons is great, but the Olympics record is something that Murray will stand alone with in the history books.

As a record in itself, 2 single Olympic golds is something that is unique to Murray so, yes, that is (and is likely to remain for the foreseeable future) his own unique achievement in tennis!

Slams, however, are the pinnacle of achievement in tennis so 2 Wimbledon titles will always be greater than 2 Olympic titles.

Probably having a ball "standing alone in the history books."

Someone said what is most important is what Murray himself feels about the 2 Olympic Singles titles. I agree.

Olympic gold is fantastic, but that golden trophy defines professional tennis. There is no comparison.

Not really, but then I don't think it's as ridiculous as most people imply.

That's just it. People spend 24 hours a day on this forum and begin to believe this message board political nonsense is real. Winning gold in Rio made Murray the GOAT somewhere - the Olympic GOAT - and outside of the daily message board political nonsense of this forum, that is significant. A billion people watch the Olympics. Perhaps 3 people outside of this forum watch the WTF.

Would he trade a W for Olympic gold? Probably not, but as you said, it's not as ridiculous as it seems.
