Andy Murray has issued the following statement about JG "I don't see how he can hold a position of authority in the ATP." Other players that agree with Murray include Martina Navratilova, Darren Cahill, Pat Cash, Amelie Mauresmo, Pam Shriver and Tim Mayotte. All England Club has banned Gimelstob from the Legends Doubles event. The ATP Board is packed with friends of JG, including Djokovic and David Egdes. Egdes is a Tennis Channel executive that JG described as his BFF. Strangely enough, JG is backed by Isner and Querry. Gimelstob should be in jail, not a part of the tennis leadership board.

Gimelstob was, until recently, Isner's coach and they remain very close friends so hardly surprising there.

“This sounds horrible, but I’m very good at what I do,” he said in the interview last month. “And that upsets people in our structure. The players know how good I am, especially in terms of improving prize money for them, and that pisses off the tournaments. It annoys them that, even in a compromised state, I’ve been able to outwit, outmaneuver, outstrategize and outmobilize them.”

Justin Gimelstob; he feels he's smart enough to brag about his acumen to the New York Times, yet he's apparently dumb enough to not realize that assaulting someone is a terrible idea.

Wait until it goes to court before passing judgement.
Maybe the guy rammed his head 50 times in a row into JG's fist.

It did. He pled no contest, which would be treated as a guilty plea according to the judge in Ben Rothenberg's post of the court transcript:

The transcript also has the judge stating that it was legally unprovoked. What a winner this guy is.

People plead guilty all the time when they are not actually guilty. Doesn't mean much.

That being said, I don't know enough facts to say one way or another.

I'm particularly curious how he managed to get into bed with Djokovic (so to speak).
It is sad Djokovic , Pospisil and crew were supporting Gimelstob

I love Novak as a player but the entire Pepe Imaz/Amor Y Paz debacle didn't really instill me with confidence in his clarity of thinking and general mental health. I mean, let's be very honest, a grown and successful man diving head-first in this new-age crаp is pretty bad. If Novak could be swayed by a crooked weirdo like Pepe then no wonder he can be swayed by a probably even sleeker and more convincing JG.

Of course. Now, with that acknowledged... the transcript excerpts coupled with everything else (including his past conduct) do not paint a flattering picture of Gimelstob as an individual. From the looks of things, it's clear an assault did indeed take place, whether or not it happened exactly as it was described - I myself doubt that Gimelstob landed more than 50 punches as was claimed, but I don't think it's an unreasonable stance that one was already too many. If the law deems him unworthy of prison (which it did) then that's one thing and should be abided by 100%, but diminishing or eliminating his role within tennis is a separate discussion, and there seems to be a sufficient base to say 'Hey - we don't want you representing our sport in any professional capacity.'

That Kournikova quote alone.

What a waste of human skin.
I kind of like Gimelstob, but the guy is clearly an egomaniac and a loose canon. He was a real presence on Tennis TV with his commentary for years here in the US. He's quite likable until you dig into all these incidents and then its just horrible. Has he already been anointed to replace Kermode?

I wouldn't say they support him per se. It is more complicated. Gimelstob is good at politics. Well spoken etc. Yes, he says stupid things but somehow he gets away with it. He does have a crazy personality. Guys like him for whatever reason can make it. It's not all black and white.

I'm not sure why Murray is even bothering with this. Join the club and get involved in the council. Why not? Everyone talks too much and nobody does anything. Get the job done. It's that simple.

Murray is one of most annoying people on and off the court. Gimbleslob is a total ahole. As long as someone loses im happy.

Neither of these guys should have a say on tennis.
