My 3.5 Tennis Gameplay

Mostly just to just get a good workout but I roughly typed up a description of what I was aiming for on Youtube.
Why don't you focus on some general basics, like coiling to 90 deg on all shots (FHs miss coil glaringly), moving forward through the shots? That's not going to break your ingrained techniques, but ball machine perfectly suits such a practice, you can focus on some exact thing and not care much of what happens to each and every ball.

This was my first time hitting against a machine in a long while; I am thankful my friend let me borrow it. I will for sure work on general basics above and appreciate the input!

Will be using this thread to give updates on my tennis game evolution and hopefully show improvements from the advice received thus far. Feel free to comment with any feedback you might have here or on Youtube!

The hitting above looks like some improvements from the last videos I saw of yours a while back. Thanks for posting. Good stuff.

I appreciate that! Still would label myself as a 3.5 player as of now but more improved.

Yeah, I was labeled 3.0/3.5, if that's the case I would say you are a 2.5 at best. But I mean, there are 1.0 1.5 2.0 and 2.5 players so it's nothing to be ashamed of.
I don't mean to be mean, but I would easily win against the level displayed in those videos, so either I was under rated or you're not even 3.0

I have won a 200pt 3.5 tournament before... but, you're right, it was all probably a fluke. Thanks for watching though!

hmm ok. Then I guess I was underrated. There is really a slow pace, poor placement, pushed serve. But you are consistent against slow pace, I would need to see you play against someone who can hit the ball a little bit or move. I have a very hard time picturing myself losing against that though, so I guess I just feel a bit disappointed that I was rated as under that level, every ball you hit is an easy ball to me.

You have progressed a lot though from your first videos, your movement is better and you can take the ball early, but against faster balls I presume you would struggle because of that placement (too close to the ball or out of reach/harder to take the ball on the rise.

I think it all depends on your opponents level too. I've been in a flex 4.0 league before and finished about .500 in matches.

Well a simple practice video with a friend, so not exactly very telling. It's on the forum just search for "double clinic"
That's not a 3.0 level unless you can't help self-destructing against weak taps sent to your side. If you can keep UEs limited (including DFs) and move your opponents around with those strokes, while not loosing gas too fast, you can beat 3.5. Playing solid 4.0 is like... well, like 0.5 level higher 8-B Could only be gauged from actual match play and results.

Most rec level players don't look polished neither powerful or fast, maybe until 4.5 level to some extent. However, many of them appear tough opponents when the score is up.

Cool! Am using the SwingVision (it’s auto-editing is just great) app for doing something similar in my own progression, and while I have put it on YouTube am not brave enough to link it here just yet. I watched a bit of your first video and then your latest, and you’ve become much improved. There were some nice rallies in there! What jumps out at me is you don’t seem comfortable with your 2HBH. I suspect it wouldn’t serve you well under any sort of pressure. I wish I was better equipped to help you fix it, but will leave that to others. On your forehand I noticed that you were hitting with an extremely open stance and suspect you would be getting more pace (if that was an objective) with greater adoption of a closed stance.

I appreciate that! Yes, my 2HBH I am still getting used to since sometimes I try doing 1HBH as well.

Nice. I suggest when on defense, focus on hitting back deep. In the video, your 4.5 opponent cannot really attack too much on the deep ones but he frequently won off the short ones.
When on defense, obviously you cannot hit proper shots but make sure can push/poke/whatever them back deep and crosscourt (safer). Not going to win more games against him but you will probably win more points :) .

I appreciate the input! I definitely have been trying to work more on getting the ball deeper. Thanks for the watch!

What is your UTR? Some good rallies. Your OP definitely exploited your lack of depth and your BH. Thanks for posting, very brave!
My UTR is around 4.4; thanks for the watch and always have been open to post my progress, even though I occasionally get some hate!

Starting a new UTR league and I am definitely the lowest rated. Enjoy and please subscribe!
Looks so much better than when the thread started (which yeah was not even close to 3.5), nice work! Now playing around 3.5. Not close to 4.0 but that’s ok. Biggest easy-ish improvements you can make right now are 1) keep toss arm up much longer on serve and 2) get left hand engaged on forehand. Will still take months to internalize these changes, but worth the investment.

I am not sure I saw your knees bend at any point in this. Try it, you will probably find it helps just about every sporting motion.
