My Barricade 6.0 review

Hello fellow TWers,

I haven't started a post in quite some time but I thought I'd post about my first experience with the white/black/little red Barricade 6s. First of all, I liked the look of the blue ones but glad I waited because I found a local store here in Atlanta that has had the white/black and black/black now for a couple of weeks and immediately ordered a pair (I wear a 14 and they didn't have it in stock). I love the look. I came from the Barricade 4s and Breathe Cages (had a few pairs of each type that have lasted me up to this year) so the new version of shoe has me hyped (I've also recently bought a pair of the blue 2.3s).

My foot type is medium with a medium arch. I am an all courter that usually wears the outside edges of my tread (pronator). My hitting session with them today was a lot of drills and king of the court but I was able to get a great understanding of what I've invested in. I have a scratch on the outside of my left big toe so there was a sensation of rubbing that I will not blame on the shoe since the scratch is practically new and slightly raw.

The toebox, as described in some other threads, is sort of narrow. I'm not complaining too bad because it's not like my toes felt squished. They just felt snug and secure. These feel very much like my 2.3s so far (I haven't really had a lot of time to break either of them in completely at this point). I felt that the heel could stand to be a little more snug but I'm not complaining of slippage. It could've been my cheap ankle socks I was using (I usually use performance socks with better asorbtion). They definitely felt a lot lighter than the Barricade 4s and actually felt a little lighter than the 2.3s. I am a big guy so I like a shoe that provides a light weight ride but also has cushioning. The first couple of versions of the Vapors gave me that but didn't last. The Breathe Cages and Free IIs were perfect for that. The Barricade 6s seem they might be a great followup to that once broken in a little more. The 2.3s seem like they are just a little too heavy to put in that great category, but I do like the look and feel of them in terms of stability.

Overall, I'm very pleased and sure I will be buying another pair when a new colorway is released.

You say they're comparable in fit to the 2.3s. Is that with the 2.3s broken-in while the B6s aren't? I'm particularly interested about how the toeboxes compare.

The toebox on the B6s are just slightly narrower than the B5s but not as extreme as the 2.3s

The 2.3s feel narrower like a dress shoe where the toe come to a point (the funnel feeling I noted in your other thread) whereas the upper on the B6 is narrower on the outside part of the upper. It feels like it locks in over your metatarsal region.

What he said!!!

Seriously, I haven't had a lot of time to break in the B6s or the 2.3s but I can tell that the B6s will stretch a little more than the 2.3s will. The 2.3's tightness is more of a pinching feeling on my foot, whereas the B6s are just a tight, "new shoe" fit. I've never tried the B5s but I really like the overall fit of the 6s.

IMO, they are much more comfortable out of the box than the 5's. They also look like they'll hold up better. They are lighter and IMO more supportive and cushioned. They are all around better shoes.

My wife has completely taken over the camera so I will try to "borrow" my camera and take a few pics.

I tried them on recently and I wasn't impressed at all.
Too hard, couldn't feel the cushioning, couldn't feel anything.
Felt almost like the Barricade 4s.
I'm guessing they take a while to break in.

Please post how you feel after the break in. So far nobody has convinced me that this shoe is good

I am loving them the more I play in them. The cushioning is really good and they feel lighter than the IV's by a lot (I never owned the V's). What I think I like most compared to some other Barricades is that it provides a snug but still comfortable fit. Great shoe!!! I will get another color soon.

I have the B6's in all black and they're sufficiently broken in. Great shoe on the hard courts. Very comfortable and stable. I use another shoe on clay, so can't comment there.

actually the price is epic. $400 is just too much. Hey, you play football too? Interesting somebody else in this thread actually discuss about this.

The new f50's are nuts how light they are. also the chameleon paint gets me a bit excited. Kinda like the old Kelme Chameleon's.

here is my 0.02 cents...
I want to add a ringing endorsement for the Barricades 6. I have slightly wide (D width), size 11 and mostly flat feet (very low arch but there is some). In most tennis shoes I fight pain on the side of the foot, pain in the achilles after playing and just plain fatigued feet after playing.

In the past 6 months I have bought and played extensively with NB900, Nike Vapor VI, Nike Breathe 2K10, Asics Gel Resolution 2 and the Fila Alfa II. I still have all of these shoes, yes I have wasted more money than I care to think about in my quest for a shoe that works for me. I am more than pleased with the Barricades 6. The support in the heel and around the ankle is excellent, the flexibility is very good, the foot support is best in class and the break-in is minimal, maybe 1 court session. Cushioning is firm but effective. The quality of materials and construction seems a bit nicer than Nike, NB and Asics, on par with the Fila. I am not sure about people saying the shoe is narrow, I didn't find that. This is the first shoe I have worn out of the box without suffering the side of the foot pain. I would consider this shoe as a true D width.
This is not a shoe for lounging around with a marshmallow feel. It is shoe for a tennis player that likes very good support, wants to feel their feet snuggly connected to the shoe and responsive for all out running without fear of slipping or twisting or ankle problems.
Again this is all about personal preference, but I am enjoying the higher heel and tilted forward posture that this shoe gives you much more than the flat and close the ground posture of some of the other shoes I have.

Great review, I'm tempted to try them on but they don't even friggen sell them at the NYC Adidas store yet. Well, you can get a custom miAdidas fitting, but no thanks......

I like that kind of shoe. Already ordered at Miaddidas and waiting for them to arrive. I have had it with the New Babolate Team , Asics Gel . They just couldnt be like the Good old Babolat Team II (just love this shoe). Had to look around. Addidas Barricades seem like gold standard in this forum and wanted to give them a shot.

I have been wearing the Barricade IV and V for the past couple of years which I have loved. I bought the black VI's a few days ago for my size 11 wide FLAT feet and so far have no issues. They ride a touch higher but the support is great. I do not anticipate any issues.

Good review. I just got this show and it seems to fit quite well. I wore the V's as well and love them too. the 6's are lighter and slightly narrower but like the you say, it's not narrow. My feet are somewhere between a D and 2e and they felt fine. A more contoured fit than the V's. I really love the V's but it feels almost sacrilegious to say it, but these felt like the V's, improved. More contoured fit and lighter than the V's.
Most similar shoe = Breathe Free II's with better support.

Feels like I have a stone in the insole of the shoe when I'm walking... but only in one of them.

Most be something wrong with it.

I tried them on yesterday, they are horribly narrow.

Shame.

These are a bad choice for slightly wide feet, as were the CC Geniuses.

I don't find them any more narrow than 2.3's. not as narrow as the Genius II's

Well I own 3 pairs of CB 2.3 size 10.5

Saw the B6 in the store yesterday.

Tried them on in my size and they were painfully narrow.

Just my .02.

Quick Barricade 6 - Review

Hi All,

Wanted to jot down a few things, since the reception of the B6 appears to be lukewarm - according to the TW reviews on the product page.

I received mine today and used them for 3 hours this evening (intermediate doubles). These were free (sent in B5's for the 6-month outsole guarantee - Adidas sent new B6's back)... although it took 6-weeks to receive them!

- - - - -

First impression:

Good fit and finish. Overall look Remind me of the older Feather series. They seem to sit a bit lower to the ground although stability feels about the same as the 5's. When viewing them on your feet (looking down)... they appear narrower and longer than the B4's and 5's (which appear a bit chunky).

Lacing:

The lacing extends further toward the toes and doesn't slip through the grommets (when tightening)... like the older Barricades (4 and 5). That was something that always annoyed me about the 4's and 5's... I'd tighten the laces... and they'd immediately slip and un-tighten

Initial wear (inside my apartment):

Definitely stiffer material in the toebox area. The stiffer material hits right in the middle of the big toe. I was having flashbacks to the uncomfortable toebox of the B4. However, after a half-hour inside the apartment, they started to really loosen up. These shoes must be laced tightly so your heel doesn't lift when walking. The arch does seem to be a bit higher and overall the shoe has a much closer fit than previous Barricades (4 and 5).

On Court:

By the time I arrived at the court, they were already much more comfortable. The toebox issue (stiff material pushing into my big toe) was gone. The shoes feel very similar to the B5's after a quick break-in. Also, they really do feel like they start to custom-mold to the foot after a few hours of play.

Traction, squeaking, stability, etc. were virtually identical to the B5's (in case anyone is having reservations about switching to the new model).

These Barricades are much better ventilated than either the 4 or 5. I ride a motorcycle most of the time... and could actually feel the breeze going right through the shoe when heading to the court, earlier. I never had this sensation with the 4's or 5's.

After 3 hours of playing doubles:

Very impressed with the shoes! I loved the B5's and was prepared to stock up on a couple years worth (before they sell out). No need! :)

After three hours the shoes felt 90% broken in and really do seem to mold better to every curve of the foot. They were just as (if not more) comfortable than the B5's. When I removed them after arriving home... there was a bit of a vacuum sensation pulling them off (again, they really seem to mold to the foot better).

- - - - -

Will post a bit more after using them a few more hours (tomorrow and Sunday).

Any questions... ask away.

BTW, they are identical to these:

u got the b6s? i got the lame white/black b5s in the wrong size when i sent mine in last month

I sent in a pair of the Limited Edition black/gunmetal B5's, like these:

41gOGlqwT%2BL._AA300_.jpg

Perhaps they gave me the B6's since they didn't have that color left in stock.

I would definitely call (or email) Adidas and let them know they sent you the wrong size. Perhaps, they'll give you a voucher for the B6's.

I second Bud's feelings about the 6. I was a little hesitant after reading reviews and comments on the boards, but that was all laid to rest after today. The higher arch support was noticeable but not bothersome, and after 30 minutes I didn't even think about it. I could tell the toe box was narrower from the V, but it was snug and not uncomfortable. I was on the court for a couple of hours in 100+ heat, and my feet felt fine (I was also wearing some Adidas ForMotion socks - highly recommend). Most striking was the traction. The tread on this shoe is ridiculous. Adidas basically dares you to wear this shoe out in 6 months. The "claws" on the outside of the shoe actually engage the court on hard lateral stops. For my feet, the Barricade 6.0 is a winner.

For the record, I will be ordering my second colorway of the 6s this weekend. That's how much I love this shoe.

I tried these on today and I was impressed. I did not find the toe-box narrow and the fit was pretty nice.

Don't know if I will commit to buying though

Did everyone get the same size in the Barricade 6 as they did with the Barricade 5?

I'm just wondering because the 10 I have in the Barricade 6s seem smaller than the 10 I had in Barricade 5.

I did. I had the 5s in size 11.5 and now have the 6s in the same size. They fit great

Yes... same size. The B6's just fit the foot better.

For the record, I will be ordering my second colorway of the 6s this weekend. That's how much I love this shoe.

I like them more each time I wear them.

Have had the VI's for about a month now. I have a wide foot, these just do not fit my foot right. The V's and IV's were perfect. The VI's ride too high, are too narrow for my foot. I will not but again or recommend for wide feet (I tried going up a size-too loose).

I've owned the shoe for a little over 3 months now and still like them. However, the durability seems sub-par. My right shoe already has a hole in the big toe area

The Barricade 5's lasted about 5 months playing 12-15 hours per week (approx. 250 court hours)

These B6's have lasted a bit over 3 months while playing only 10-12 hours per week (approx. 150 court hours)

It appears that Adidas will be honoring many more 6-month outsole guarantees with these new Barricades.

Anybody else feel like their B6's wore out too quickly?

I agree these are way to narrow in the toe box.I
have been wearing barricades for years+ i really
like them but i am done with them now. These
shoes are not even close to the same fit as past
models.

Is anyone here a slider on the hardcourts? I am considering Barricades or another pair of Courtballistecs and was wondering if the side of the Barricade will hold up considering theres no toe protector like the 2.3's for consistent sliders
