My first league match is tomorrow morning.

Bri-guy

Semi-Pro
Playing my first match for a weekend tournament tomorrow morning.

While I have been playing tennis solidly for 7 years now, I have never played a real competitive match. I played baseball in high school, so I missed out on those years, and have just been hitting with anyone and everyone since.

Men's singles, 3.0: I play the #2 rank in our bracket.

Wish me luck.

Cheers!

Good luck!
The key thing is to play the best that you can, doesn't matter what the result going to be, even you got beaten 6-0 6-0, at least you give your best shot.
If you have got beat down bagel, remember, it doesn't get any worst than that, your next tournament, you will be mentally tough and you will start winning!

good luck!

Who won?

At least you got one under your belt, your nerves should start easing up a bit. Have fun!

I won the first match. Just let me say, its been an interesting run through the 3.0 men's singles today. First guy could have been my grandpa (I'm 25) and beat him 6-1, 6-1. Next guy was a junior in high school, and beat him 6-3, 6-0.

I was asked last minute by the tournament director, who has seen me out on the court often, to fill in for someone. Maybe I'm better suited for 3.5. We will see, I play tomorrow morning at 8AM for the 3.0 final.

Cheers!

Yeah a former baseball player age 25 "playing tennis solidly for 7 years" should be much better than 3.0, probably closer to 4.0 if you had more competitive play.

How do you move up on the rating system? If I win my finals match tomorrow for 3.0 men's singles, will there be any change?

Cheers!

I meet guys here that tell me they have been playing 20 years an they brag about how they are doing so well in 3.0 league, I would hope after 20 years someone could do well in 3.0, you think?

It was kind of crappy of you to rate as a 3.0 if you've been playing for 7 years.

Whoa go easy there. Some tournament director asked him to fill in and play for someone who dropped out. He never played in a tournament or competitive environment before. So he said yes. I am sure if the TD had an opening at 3.5 or 4.0 he probably would have said yes as well.

Oooh, I didn't see that he was asked to fill in. I apologize to the OP. The tournament director on the other hand, shouldn't have gotten someone obviously above the 3.0 level to compete in a 3.0 tournament. It's not fair to those people paid money to play and then lost first round.

Its not fair at all, the TD and OP should be dealt with severely.

I'm going to file a grievance on Grandpa's behalf, and talk to my attorney about filing a lawsuit against the bagel baker and tournament sponsors.

Men's 3.0 tournament matches should not be subjected to bagels and breadsticks. They should be pretzels and cinnabons.

This kind of thing is ruining the game for recreational players across the US. Its no wonder the US09 men's final didn't have an American. The competitive landscape and bar is being lowered by these frauds with "7 years" experience but playing in beginner level tournaments.

Think about what Grandpa is going thru. Hes gotta be upset that he wasted $ on entering this thing to get smacked down by a whippersnapping showboating "Master of the Ring(ers)".

Disgusting. I hope you're proud of yourself!

Good luck and play AGGRESSIVE and play the percentages.. 2 most important factors in league tennis today....

It is finished

The final for 3.0 was this morning.

6-1, 6-4 was the outcome. During and after the match, the guy I played against was talking about how I should be a 3.5, if not a 4.0. He did not seem too upset though, he understood that I did not put myself in that rating category and that it was my first ever competitive tournament.

It was good fun, and let me say, that is the most tennis I have ever played in a 24 hour period. Good stuff!

Next time, when I enter my first tournament on my own accord, I will enter in at 3.5. I could handle a little more pace... :)

Cheers!

HAHA HEY NOW! I didn't know we were serving sarcastic sandwiches!!!

You guys see what he did there? He used hyperbole to make fun of what I said! He's a goddamn genius. I especially liked how he offered no actual rebuttal to what I said, but instead just used gross exaggerations and hilarious terms like "whippersnapping showboating 'Master of the Ring(ers'" and "Bagel Baker"!!!

I guess he's going to make another post because he said "The following post was sarcastic." I mean at first I thought he meant the one he just wrote, but you'd have to be a complete moron to put "the following" at the END of something!!
