‘92 Canadian Open - the men in Toronto. Saw Agassi take out Lendl to win the singles draw. Then Agassi and McEnroe teamed up in the doubles final. Mac picked a fight with a spectator (typical). They lost in straights.

I saw Bjorn Borg play team tennis when I was a kid in Cleveland, Ohio in the 70s. I don't recall the year. I believe his girlfriend played for the team as well but don't hold me to it.
Yes, it would have been his then girlfriend, who went on to marry Borg.
They, famously played Chris Evert and John Lloyd in a mixed 'Love Doubles ' at Battersea Park, London.

Borg and Simionescu in Snagov, Romania, on 24 July 1980
Simionescu won the French Junior Championships in 1974. She played on the WTA Tour from 1973 to 1980. Her best Grand Slam performance was reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon in 1977. She won one singles title and one doubles title. She reached a career-high singles ranking of world no. 36 in 1978.

I think my first was as a ball boy at the Queensland Open, some time in the late 70s.

I'd ball boy again if they'd let me, but I am discriminated against on the basis of my age.

The 70s and 80s, quite a bit of history here guys, congratulations!

My first pro tourney was much later but I still got the chance to see a final featuring the new world number one at that time : Pete Sampras.

Sampras in a final would have been awesome. Who did he play and where?

It was the Lyons Open final, in France in 1993. Pete played Frenchman Cedric Pioline for a remake of the 1993 US Open final. I remember it being a great final, ending-up 7/5 in the third for Pete. Great match for a first .

I was 18 and that day I realized that we - recreational players - and they - pro players - don't do the same sport .

Later as a stringer I had the opportunity to meet many pro players including big names but I never saw the Mac or Borg, Connors etc. in action like some of you guys, which I regret.

I didn't get to see any of those live, nor Sampras .. so you're ahead of me!

Looks like some tasty matches coming up at Marseille today. Pospisil v Tsitsipas would be my pick.

Not a pro tournament, but my dad took us to see Arthur Ashe win the NCAA title on our family vacation to Los Angeles.

Wow, that is a fantastic memory! My son is a junior in high school and is currently researching for a big school year paper on Arthur Ashe.

Was at the 2013 Cincinnati semifinals men's AND women's. Isner vs Delpo. Nadal vs Berdych. Then got to stay over for the women's matches. Li Na vs Serena. And Azerenka vs Jankovic. Had corporate suite tickets that were given to my brother. Food and drink served by our lovely hostess. Met Brian Gottfried after the men's matches were over, and had my photo taken with him. Brian Gottfried talked a bit.of the days he use to play tennis tournaments in my hometown.of Louisville. He was in great shape for his age....anybody's age. LOL. My brother and friend weren't big tennis fans, so they didn't know who he was. But boy, we all had a great time.

The first tennis I ever saw in the USA was late 70's on PBS. In fact, it might have been a collegiate match.

The first tournament that really stuck out in my mind was 1980 U.S. Clay Courts. I loved Andrea Jaeger because she was only a few years older than myself. And then there was the silky smooth and lovely Romanian, Virginia Ruzici.

Wimbledon 1992. Joined the queue outside the gates at 7am and still got No2 court tickets (those were the days). Watched the late Alexander Volkov destroy Emilio Sanchez and Ferreira edge past Fitzgerald, then snuck onto Centre at the end of the day to watch Edberg in his pomp and McEnroe and Stich establish a lead against Järryd and that man Fitzgerald again before bad light stopped play.
