My first tournament

Played my first tournament since getting back into tennis (just over 2 years ago) in February of this year.

I was not really prepared for the caliber of players that I would encounter. Apparently these guys have all been playing tournaments the whole 28 years I sat on by butt, not playing.

I was trounced in the first round, but made it all the way to the consolation finals.

I lost handily again, but I now think I have a better feel for what to expect and what strategies to apply.

Next tourny is next weekend and I am psyched.

Welcome back to tournament play! I played my first tournament back from a long layoff last January (2011). Because I coached baseball, I only played a limited schedule of 7 tournaments. This year I'm being more ambitious with at least 12. In the Mens 3.5 division here in Texas, there are all kinds of players with different experiences and quality of play. It definitely makes tournaments interesting. Just have fun and stay focused on your game and you will be fine.

Cheers!

Thanx guys.

I am locked and loaded and ready to go.

This will be my first tourny with my new racquets (Dunlop Biomimetic 100s).

Win or lose, I will have fun.

That's what it's all about for me.

Play a lot and you'll get much more match savvy.

When I first started up after a long layoff, guys were hitting shots I wasn't familiar with, massive lobs and slice and dropshots.

Now, I expect and even look forward to those shots, I've become a match "expert" from lots of playing and experience. It doesn't mean I win all of them, but I go in confident that I've trained and am ready to do battle.

make sure to play a lot, and play a lot of matches, and have fun!

I'm in the midst of my first tournament as well. I'm playing 3.5 men's singles. Won my round of 32 match 6-2, 7-5, and gutted out a tough round of 16 match 7-5, 7-5. Quarterfinals and semifinals (if I advance) back-to-back tomorrow afternoon, if the weather holds up.

Sounds like you're playing a Major Zone tournament. Nice results, get some rest, tomorrow is will be long day....
