Guy have you ever ran into discomfort in all of these body places:, ankle, knee, wrist, elbow? Literally at the same time but only on the right side of the body. I have slight pain in the knee.
YouTube some stretches and exercises for your body. Also rest and give your body ample time to heal before hitting the courts again. Try to iron out any kinks in your technique since bad technique can cause injury when using heavy racquets. For the knees, buy some softer shoes and if that doesn't work, play on clay courts. That's my 2 cents.

It could matter a lot if all 10 are from the same batch and racquets from a single batch are more alike than they are with racquets from different batches. I don't have anything empirical to prove this, but I've seen the idea floated around that Wilsons bought together from the same store are closely specced but very different if bought months or a year apart.

If Wilson is making racquets that are 10% different in spec from each other, they should just leave the business. :-D

How does TW get stats for the comparison tool? Large sample/small sample? Single sample/multiple samples? If the samples aren't large and the number of samples aren't large enough, the specs they put on the their website aren't very representative of the population of red/black 2014-2016 RF97 racquets.

According to TW officials, the stats in TW University / Comparison tool are based on a single sample. The only part that is based on multiple samples and averaged is the product page.
However, given that the 3 gens of RF97 have exactly the same specs on their respective product pages, there might be some marketing pressure involved there :)

What forehand grip do you use guys? Im using semi western but im planing to switch to eastern. This is going to be super hard!

Not wanting to derail thread but why the change? Eastern is easier for block returns of serve as the racquet face and palm are more aligned and naturally vertical - so useful in fast court doubles - and is also somewhat inherently easier when it comes to getting under/around low wide balls, but it's harder to hit the ball out in front and or hit a naturally 'heavy' ball.

I use semi western, I can put a lot of top spin and I can flatten when I need, is harder to pick balls up from below knee high but I just go low and flicker the wrist, not a problem anymore, I think it's the most versatile grip for a forehand.

It is the most versatile for sure. Today I tried eastern and extreme eastern. I have never ever had that amount of power that I had today. I loved it ! In the beginning it's hard to not get the ball under the net level but I will get used to it. Crushing high balls is so much easier with the eastern and extreme eastern grip! Forehands on the straights are a joy with it :) its a nice change. Oh and on the stretch it helps a lot to have the easy power. What semi western lacks though is the accuracy on flat shots and there is less easy power.

By naturally heavy ball did you mean that it doesn't come natural to the body using eastern for heavy balls ?

It means that eastern is more natural for driving the ball meanwhile semi western is more natural for getting top spin, all because of the path and angle of the racquet's face on contact.

Yeah, but... when i return a ball produced by heavy topspin versus when i return a ball from a flat shot produced by my oponent i definitely feel the flatter shot heavier on my racket.

Well, you know that in tennis the terms we use not always means something everybody agrees on, in this case your take on "heavy" is the power of the shot, when some people talk about a "heavy" top spin ball they're talking about the spin and how it brings down the ball to the ground, not necessarily the power behind the shot.

Starting with it, I'm just making sure I can play with it for long periods of time, on Wednesday I'll have an extensive serve practice if I don't feel any discomfort the same day or the day after I think I'll switch.

The weird thing is i got some serve discomfort with my initial string setup but with the poly i don`t . This is weird. Otherwise on normal hits my initial setup was so much better than the poly, especially on slices. Probably its because when i had it i tried serving with continental grip which doesnt come natural to me at all and can`t generate power. The serving grip i use is my knuckle on bevel 3or 3.5. I get plenty of power and decent spin. Let me know how things are going with you and your racket :) . PM me if you want. Good luck !

Do you guys usually by more than 1 frame ? I bought the non-autograph version and really like it. Contemplating getting another as a backup in case Wilson stops making it in this color.

I bought a single rf97 autograph Black and dont regret it. It is exactly 340grams and exactly 357 strung. Head Light balance is also exactly as it says in the site. Imagine :D...

Guys im finding it very hard to transition to eastern forehand. I miss the spin but I love the flat hits with some spin in them. Now I'm finishing points way faster . Any tips on how to generate easier topspin except the obvious wrist lag? Im experiencing trouble in keeping the ball in.

How's your swing? Low to high?

I'm in the same boat. All I can say is swing low to high and swing faster. A challenging thing to do with the RF97.

You could try coming around the outside of the ball more - like when curving a running forehand back into the court; this becomes easier with less extreme grips - however windshield wiper swing becomes less intuitive.

Sorry but I’m going to hijack your thread for a sec with a question. Does anybody know if the all black and tuxedo RF97s are the same as the original red and black one? I have the red and black one and fancy picking up some spares but not sure if I’d get away with getting the newer ones. Cheers

Pretty much the same mate. I have all 3 and actually I prefer the red and black RF97A but there’s not much difference if any. Good choices!

Easiest is to just buy more topspin: use natural gut in your mains and slick round poly crosses.

I find swinging low to high and fast is the main reason why it is not working. That's my natural swing. Exactly the way you said is my swing and it rarely works..

Exactly having too much topspin is what I have now and i hit the ball with the frame often. When it works it works but when it doesn't it's an out of undernet.

I'm confused. You're having too much topspin? Or you can't get topspin?

If you're framing, it's usually because you're hitting too late due to the weight of the frame. Do you notice the problem worsens as you play?

Instead of just swinging faster, you might want to step into the ball when you make the strike. With Eastern Forehand, I find that hitting cleanly is more important than hitting low to high real fast. Step into the ball, make clean strikes with good follow through, and you should see some good results. I had a coach who wanted me to hit Eastern because I was over spinning the ball with Western & semi-western grips. He had me step into the ball every time because I had a habit of hitting balls with an open stance, The end result was that though I hit with less wrists spin, the balls had more oomphs and better overall control. The topspin was more like a foreword bouncing drive than high bouncing topspin, but it was effective and am glad the coach forced me to hit meatier balls using the Eastern grip. Just my .02 cents.

Ah, I like this tip. I hit with a pretty open stance and never really step in on my forehands.

I'm considering switching to an eastern forehand too. I generate my own pace and spin. Lots of rpm on my forehand but I think switching to eastern could be more beneficial for low balls and hitting flat higher balls better. I've hit semi western for 15 years so I'm wondering how different it would be switching to eastern. We shall see.

Sorry, i meant to say my swing from low to high is so fast that i frame the ball.

I bet the transitioning process to the eastern forehand would be super hard for you. I`ve played less years than that and i find it extremely difficult but for crushing high balls with flat forehands it`s extremely comfortable, indeed. What you probably won`t like though is how the shots feel like they are a lot faster and the margin for error is a lot smaller. I hope we both get used to the Eastern grip.

Guys, i know it has been debated a lot on this topic. I know Federer is usingthe eastern forehand grip but what do you think for the many situations when it comes to cross court shots. Have any of you noticed him using extreme eastern ? It feels a lot more suitable for combined power and topspin whereas the eastern fh feels like a forehand you need to push your oponent to the baseline.

The key is hip rotation not grip

Are you talking like extreme crosscourt angles? Like you're approaching and hit at like a 45 degree angle? If you're at the baseline I've never had issues hitting cross court. If anything stepping in makes it easier.
I think you need to post a video because it's hard to imagine what you're doing.

Yes, about extreme crosscourt angles like Nadal`s. This stance but with my legs wider apart would be my only option for now(speaking about cases where you are closer to the net). It`s clearly harder than Nadal`s crosscourt forehand and there is far bigger possibility of hitting the net like this. I`m posting two photos of me.

So like an inside-out forehand? I feel like Roger Federer is the person to watch for that. his inside-out forehands always blow my mind.

Just looking at the photos, it looks like you're leaning back when you are hitting those forehands with no shift in weight forward or using your hips.

Nice point you pointed out right there about the weight transfer forward. Later on when we played already for 3 hours i was doing it cause i was moving more with the feet, had a wider stance and everything + the weight transfer forward. Thanks for your help ;) ! Yes the key in his inside-out forehands is the loose wrist and topspin amount. Its really beautiful. I`m fully trying to play Federer`s style but i have so much from Grigor Dimitrov`s style that im finding it very fun to transition. I used to love running after balls like Grigor but now i like the concept of being the dictator like Federer and have that fluid motion. I love this sh*t :D . I Also like the sloppy forehands done in practice that i even took a video of one. I know a lot of things aren`t good about the forehand i`m about to show here but i enjoy it: Tennis forehand , I know that in it i don`t do the full movement starting from high to low and then to high and thats why it lacks power. I`m fully self taught by the way and just got back into tennis in 2019 playing on this free public court whenever i have free time. I love this sport so much that i can`t even describe it! My previous experience has been only summer 2014 and 2015 again on another free public court before they ruined it to build a Tennis club (right beside home literally 20 meters away). Then this year i just heard about this court and i`m happy to be back into tennis !

If I can say something...you seem too far from the ball, not well balanced, your right foot is not in the ground too

Didn't spend much time looking at the video, but it doesn't look like you're using your body very much. A lot of arm in it. Turn your torso to help generate power. You don't have to do a loop (WTA style I believe). That is how I was taught as well, but I am trying to transition to a more ATP style with a shorter backswing.
