MY POLY REVIEWS

I will string 3 sticks now and play one of them on Monday cause it shows rain tomorrow. I need me a solid deep tissue massage, just booked for tomorrow.

Next up:

Head Hawk Touch 17g (since I liked regular Hawk so much)
Luxilon 4g (I need something reliable sitting in my bag for longer than 2 days)
Gamma Zo Verve (it was staring at me)

will report one of these bad boys after Monday!

Right, I said I was gonna do it so I am doing it :D besides the 17g I put in my 6.1 last time I cut out right away cause the tension was way too low. Will do this one 57/55
 
Great Success :D I have managed to break Revolve 16g in 9 hrs.

With all seriousness now - it is a very playable string. One of a kind feel, a bit plasticky if you ask me and plastic is all I play, but very slippery in the same time and if you don't know what "snapback" stands for - give this one a shot and you will know from the first hit. With that said I did enjoy this one a lot, one knock would be it took some adjustment in terms of trajectory control, it does grab the ball very well and it launches it very high. It took around an hour of groundstrokes to dial this in, but if you come from a less lively poly it will be quite evident that ball seems to take off the stringed higher than usual.

Volleys and drop volleys/drop shots took a bit to dial in because of unusual springiness, this string is definitely designed for baseline bashing and it delivers in this area. Serves get a bit more juice and bounce of the court nice. No issues with comfort.

It is a unique string and it takes some adjustment even if you come from another poly.

I initially strung the 17g white at 53/51 and it seemed too low, half of me shots were flying long. Orange 16g at 57/55 was perfect in the Ncode 6.1 95 16x18. I can see the 17g one work very well in 18x20 also due to nice snapback and decent pocketing. This string would make any polyester player very happy, solid in all areas.

I hit with Gamma Zo Verve in the Babolat P17 briefly... has to be the spinniest string I have used to date (at least for my strokes) I have never seen slices skid and die on hardcourt like that, incredible grab. Hit against this strong junior and even he commented that spin was just very strange (meaning caused him trouble I suppose). It did hurt my shoulder though and plays too firm. Very interesting string, I have another set, I will restring this today at 50/48 instead of 53/51 and see how it performs over the weekend. Very few polyesters cause me arm troubles, I hope this one hits comfortably and just as well at lower tension cause I like the way it plays a lot.

yes I hit with it for like 15min today. Its sort of in between Tour Bite and Revolution in terms of feel, still a bit firm, perhaps it needs another hour to settle. I will try to come out on sat and play a bit more with it, I put it into a new racquet that I am not that familiar with (I probably shouldn't have done that but oh well...) - Prince 100P (already added weight to the racquet by the way) so I definitely need more time to dial both in. So far as expected from textured 18g spin is excellent, power right in the middle. It does remind me of Cyclone 18g. I would like to try it in 17g too for better feedback.

they are quite similar actually grab the ball in a similar way... Perhaps differences in spin/power could be measured but to me Hyper G 18g played a bit stiffer than Revolution 18g. Seems like Revolution pockets better and has more muted response. Hyper G gives better spin and therefore for some - control because the ball will find the lines more often than not. I have not experienced the effect of what I like to call "overspin" where balls tend to fall short in the box. (That effect can be adjusted with tension most of the time) - Both Hyper G and Revolution have great Power/Spin balance and are great for baseline topspin play.

I have a set of that on the bottom of the drawer and will test it at some point. I will be going to Europe soon and Im trying to test strings that I might pick up a reel of for a fraction of the price. I have 3 sticks strung and when thats done Im gonna try to playtest Weisscannon Ultra Cable and Signum Pro Firestorm 1.25 before I leave. Will put my hands on Alu Power when Im back which would be second week of july ;/

Could I ask, do you think your no 1 string Big Ace is more or less comfortable on the arm/elbow compared to Revolution? I am concerned about injury problems, obviously.

Revoultion is the only string on your list that I have used, so that is a good comparison for me - my stringer used Head Sonic Pro as standard, so I just went with that before.

NB. Is 9 hours a short time to break a string at your level/power of play - I am not really sure.

Big Ace is one of the softest strings out there, definitely more comfortable than Revolution. Head Sonic is also very comfortable, you will get more pocketing, control and consistent life from big ace.

I am breaking strings a lot quicker since I changed to western grip... 9 hrs was a bit of surprise, Revolve seems very durable

Thanks for that information - you seem completely sold on Big Ace. Part of the reason I have asked the question, is because here in the UK Big Ace does not seem like a standard string offered when buying new racquets, and I am assuming it is not widely used (?) This could be complete rubbish, as I have only started researching strings over the past month or so; it is a whole new world of decisions!

Maybe everybody knows about Big Ace apart from me.

Pro Supex was more popular 6-7 years ago I believe.

Yes it was much more popular few years back, the fact that TW doesn't carry it doesn't help (did it carry it in the past?). Its an asian company and their website looks like it was made at the beginning of internet, quite depressing. It is much more popular in Europe too. Still Big Ace is my top string. When I am done going through the variety I have I will retest top 5 and things might change a bit but so far It is my favorite for a soft round poly along with Revolution for textured.

I used to play with Big Ace as my main string, but moved to Big Hitter Blue regular after and have never looked back. Big Ace while soft, had a break in period for me. Big Hitter Blue felt like Big Ace already broken in.

Strung up Hyper-G 16L in my Project One 7 last night. Will be playing this Sunday and will report back.
 
So the RPM blast 16g died in my 95D (lasted a good 7 hours or so which is pretty good from what I've heard about it) and put Cyclone 17g in. Honestly I'm liking the RPM more. Even though thinner, the Cyclone feels more stiff and slightly less comfortable which is crazy because RPM was one of the stiffest I had tried. I still get good control but my shots were lacking the average depth-per-shot that I was getting previously. I wish Babolat would lower the price because it really is a fantastic string in the right frame. However, seeing as Rafa and Stan use it, they have no problem selling it at $18 a set.

I cannot wait to try Revolution. I think I'll put it in my DR98 but can't decide.

I wanted to Love RPM - it just doesn't work for me. Cyclone is a good all-round textured poly with great spin and control, but to me it has that stiff/muted feel that some describe as comfortable and soft... it also dies quite quickly on me. Solinco strings do everything better than Cyclone I think. Let me know how Revolution works for you in comparison to your recent experience with RPM and Cyclone.

I have a set of blue big hitter... will put it in my Prestige Pro when I'm back from vacation. Played 3 sets with Hyper G 18 today... it settled nicely and is one of my favorites for sure. Spin and control are excellent, balls really dive down the court with this one. Comfort is just ok... I feel some soreness in my shoulder but that just might be playing too much.
 
Just a quick comment on Head Hawk Touch 18g: I am really liking this string. It played kinda too muted at first but I found my range with it and after about an hour it really came alive. Power, spin, control... Its all there. I played 4 sets with it, want to see how it changes over time.

Also zero issues with comfort which is a cherry on top of everything esle. My shoulder really bothered me after Gamma Zo Verve (prestretched and strung too tight), still felt it after Hyper G, today absolutely no soreness and I was blasting some of the biggest serves ever. I thought the pain came from playing too much, but it does look like strings are to blame.

Thumbs up for Head Hawk Touch.
 
Im gonna give Head Hawk Touch another 2 sessions, will finish up Hyper G and hope I get picked for Cyclone 19g playtest, would be nice to revisit that one and see how it holds up against all the stuff Ive tried recently.
 
Just looked at some reviews of Hawk Touch on TW website... Couple of guys call this the worst string ever and "pointless" with no control. Hahahaha damn we must be playing a different sport!

Had the Razor Code strung up today @ 45lb, will see how it plays next week. I am playing a doubles tournament but will probably get some time to practice groundstrokes too.

Let's see how the "low tension" thing works - I know the pros are slowly going down in tension with a few notables below 40lb. I probably won't notice much of a difference though since i'm not SUPER sensitive to small changes.
 
How did the hyper-g compare to the revolution. I am currently strung up with hyper-g 17g. Overall it feels pretty good, but I am getting some serious soreness in my arm and I have it strung at 50lbs. Had two 2hr hitting session the last 2 days and played a singles match today. Each morning my arm feels great but after tennis I have a hard time picking up a bottle of water. I'm sure if I take a week off I will not have these arm issues, but who seriously has the ability to take that much time off of tennis.

I am probably going to test out a new setup, either go to an 18g hyper-g, Revolution, or tour bite soft.

This is on Yonex dr98

Hyoer G is a little stiffer than Revolution and softer than TB. I would stay away from full poly completely if I felt that much pain after playing. I did feel some discomfort after Hyper G but it went away quickly.

I want to use full poly, I just think the strings I'm using are a bit stiffer. I'm going to try out the big ace in the future as well.

Do you have recommendations on softer polys on the arm that generates spin with a good amount of control? I am going to buy a set of big ace as per your recommendation as well. I believe my strokes are similar to yours, especially after updating my forehand grip.

Also I have noticed that you use 18g over 17. What is the reason for this?
 
Mareqnyc, you got me hooked on Revolution but I played a match with Pro Supex Big Ace today, I think I like it better. Great reviews by the way, :)

I would recommend Wilson Revolve for that personally.

To me certain strings work well with low tensions or even require it (such as Tour Bite or 4G) other will become too springy (Revolve or Lynx) its a matter of adjustment after the first try. I do it if I like the feel and performance of the string, if I dont I typically dont come back to it

Ive used 1.27 for big ace, i have it in 1.22 also and will come back to it when im doing testing all I have

I use 18g in 18x20 for better ball bite and less stiff stringbed usually, also some 16x19 have mains very close together (prestige pro and project 17) so I try to use 18g in those as well.

Revolve would fit the bill for sure @SpinToWin , it pockets very well and has soft feel. Tourna BHBR is nice also so is Laserfibre Vorso. If you like the way Solinco strings play but you want something softer definitely give Diadem Solstice Power a shot
 
What color of Revolve are you guys using? IMO, orange is livelier and softer than the white but I have yet to try the black. It's too bad that they don't sell reels of it here like they do in Europe.

From what I have heard in regards to black, it has the deadest feel of all colors. I agree with your comparison between orange and white, I personally used both of those colors.

That's a broad question… I really like its performance an awful lot, but it is a bit too lively for my current liking and I prefer a string with better playability duration in my current frame. It's a very unique string though, which I recommend people to try at the very least.
 
I cant really compare the colors, i havent used the white long enough, the difference was negligeble id say it is still the same string at the end of the day
 
Nice review Mareqnyc . i'm currently a home stringer and distributor for pro supex in Malaysia . In my country its very hard to get to try many different types of strings as we dont have access to many of the brands available like in the US. I used to get alot of strings from TW but our currency is getting smaller and smaller so i had to resort to cheaper alternatives . Thanks for the review .

The normal brands like wilson , luxilon , babolat , dunlop for strings. And alot of old timers like Ashaway crossfire 2 which is very popular here.
 
I haven't ever had shoulder problems but ever since I had Cyclone 17 put in one of my frames it's been bothering me the next day.
