My Pro Supex Reviews

16 gauge. I just started using it, so not sure about the durablility as of yet. I would guess the durability is between a synthetic and poly. However, the string, after using it about 4 times has not gone dead vs. a poly that uaually goes dead during the second time I hit with it. It has also retained it's original tension better than poly.

I hope they don't believe us Drakulie regarding Maxim Touch. I want it to stay cheap and under the radar. LOL. Give us an advantage and a good laugh.

*wait.. i've said too much*

Have you tried BG as a full set up? If you use a hybrid what. I would think the BG would saw through a multi? I was thinking PSGD?

I'm currently using a hybrid of Blue gear and the titan syn gut. It's my fav combo right now. The crosses are holding up well so far. It's soft on the arm, good pocketing, wicked action on the ball and great depth.

If I were going to use BG with a multi I would probably use the 15g maxim touch. The pro supex titan works really nice--I have been using mine now for 10+ hours and the crosses have some decent notches, but still have plenty of life. I may try the BG with 15g max touch crosses one day just for that added pop, but I can't complain too much on the current setup. It is one of the best I have ever played.

I went out again with the Titan crosses and Alu rough mains again today. I don't know if it was the alu loosened up a bit overnight, but it was also around 10 degrees warmer and that always helps. Easy depth was better and control is really good on the alu, but I'd still give the nod overall to the Blue Gear. The BG has a totally different feel to the Alu and I think BG is tad more powerful. Overall, the alu is crisper but I prefer a little more pocketing. I was able to really drill some winners off heavy topspin shots. The BG really is a compliant stringbed. I've got some 1.19mm BG on the way so that should be fun in the mains.

yup. Gotta agree with you there. It would be very nice if this string stayed under the radar for a long time.

PED, how does titan compare to PSGD? I have never hit with titan and it's been years for PSG. I figured a multi would cut to quick with BG.

Plus--BG is cheaper and has to look MUCH better than the dark grey Alu--I know I have already asked this I'm sure (it all starts to run together)-are you going to use the BG 1.19 with the 1.30 Titan crosses? Sorry if redundant.

Hey Kev, yes I'm going to do the BG 1.19/Titan 1.30 after I'm done with the Alu/titan. I guess I just like the softer poly's but I was getting some good stick on the ball today but alu does not have the pop of BA or BG. Man, it is DULL looking. I'm amazed at how soft the BG 1.28 mains are, the 1.19 BG should be great.

WAO, the PSG might feel a little bit crisper. Titan is super soft, almost multi like but not a multi. For me Titan is the one constant in almost all my hybrid setups. The power is good and so is the spin. The spin I feel is much more than a multi such as Xcel. I pay around 2.75 a pack for Titan ( I need to buy a reel) but I would gladly pay 8 or 9 for it. For me it's that good. The PSG would still be a good fit in a hybrid and you might want to go with that intially so you can get a true apples to apples comparison on the hybrid.

Well after all this talk of Blue Gear...I just had to string some up again! LOL

Instead of full job ive gone hybrid hoping for more feel...put some 1.30 multi in the crosses.

I love trying strings...:)

Nick, I think from reading your posts that feel is high on your list of priorities b/c of your emphasis on volleys. While BG will never be the best volley string out there, I think you might be pleasantly surprised at how decent the touch is with the hybrid. It certainly changed my opinion of BG. What tension do you do?

Hi PED,

I think the main reason I want to hit BG again is I could really do with some extra spin from the back and on my 2nd serve. I remember last time the spin was insane but feel was lacking (full job)..so it sounds like a hybrid is the way to go. I strung the hybrid at 57/60lbs and used NXT Tour 16 on the X's. If I like the BG/Multi im gonna but some Wilson Nat Gut in the crosses for even more feel. Hoping durability will be OK...think it will last me around 8hrs with the multi...10+ with the gut. Hows the durability with the Titan?

Good call on going with the hybrid Nick. What gauge did you go with in the BG? I have the 1.28 BG/Titan 1.30 setup and have about 10 hrs on it so far-about 1/2 of it on clay courts and the Titan seems to be holding up very well. Much better than I expected. I have considered trying a multi in the crosses with BG, but I would probably go with max touch in 1.35 (15g) for that extra bit of durability. Please let us know how your hit goes with the BG!

^^^My durability is good on the Titan, Nick but I'm not much of a stringbreaker and I'm using the 1.30 Titan. I've also really been rotating my sticks so it's hard to get a good read on it. It's so affordable that at 3 a pack it's not been a issue.

Just hit with the BG hybrid...I had 2 sticks strung with BG 1.25 on the mains...1 with NXT Tour 16 crosses and the other with PS Maxim Touch 16...both strung at 57/60. I really need to drop the tension as they both took a good hour each to break in...I will go 54/57 next time round. I pre-stretched the multis @10% on my CP machine so that made the stringbeds feel tighter.

It played great!..the spin was amazing but with comfort and touch. I think that BG is the most spin friendly string out there and even in a hybrid it rips the balls apart! My volleys felt great today and touch shots were easy. From the baseline the control is excellent and I could feel the BG gripping the ball. I also found that on my serve (esp the second) I could add some spin and extra kick...again feeling the BG gripping onto the ball. This hybrid is great for slicing too...I hit some great slice approach shots that stayed very low and got more easy put-aways.

Durability looks like it will be OK...the crosses are fraying after 2hrs and have started notching but they will hold for a good while.

In the past I have not enjoyed using Maxim Touch but it seemed to work well in the hybrid...it had more bite and control than the NXT. Next I will try some natural gut in the crosses.

Nice review and feedback. Max Touch is a pretty firm multi and definately plays much, much better after an initial hit once it has time to settle in. I would expect that dropping the tension down 3# each way would add even more feel/touch with even better spin due to the pocketing. Thanks for being the guinea pig on this setup. :)

It takes a long time before the string starts to fray. Maybe it's the poly coating.

Again, I can only hope peeps don't start to fall in love with the string. I love that its cheap in price. I just bought a reel.

Yup, I hit another two hours today. This would put about 12-13 hours of playtime on this one string job. Still hasn't frayed, lost much tension, and has hardly moved. :)

Nick how do you think spiral flex(16) mains and BA(16) crosses in a m pro #1 fischer would play out?

It would play well but could feel a tad stiff(spiral flex is one of the stiffer syn guts around)...you could be better off going with Maxim Touch 15L or 16 in the mains....I used Maxim Touch mains and ALU crosses last week and really enjoyed it.

NIck, nice writeup, I was surprised when you had the tension so high on the BG but I think your adjustment down in poundage should really be a great setup. It's a hard hybrid to beat: I still have not tried out Max Touch myself. I've bought it twice and changed my mind twice...lol. Nick, from a standpoint of softness, what string would you compare max touch to?

Hey PED,

Thanks...not sure why I went that high on the BG!

Maxim Touch is a stiffer multi...it feels like NXT Tour but with more control and a stiffer feel. Its hard for me to describe really...its alot stiffer than Xcel but provides a similar level of comfort imo. You should try it...I hated it when I wrote the first review but will revise what I have said...with a pre-stretch it plays great.

I found it to be really soft ... like spaghetti.

Well ... maybe a little stiffer than spaghetti! :)

PT63... have you done a hybrid set up in the BB11's before?

Yes I did. It was a hybrid of Blue Gear mains and Big Ace crosses. I am actually using it and is working out good. I have to decide if I want to stick with a full job Big Ace or switch to this hybrid.

I have to agree, I just threw a set of MT in my hybrid with BG. I string my BG on the lower side 53/56. The only thing so far I have found is the MT is fraying after about 4hrs rotating between 2 sticks but like the feel of this hybrid. Just bought a reel of the 16g.

Is pro supex not german?

Pulled this from their site. "While most of our Pro Supex Strings are manufactured in Taiwan, Big Ace, Poly Control and Blue Gear are all made in Germany. Try our Pro Supex strings today and experience the difference. We hope that you will enjoy your experience with Pro Supex and we hope we can serve all of your racquet needs"!

Has anyone experienced a problem with Blue gear before?

I find i will play with it after it is strung and it plays amazing, then the next time i play with it, it's really springy and really powerful, this has happened 3 times.
I don't see other people having this problem, could anyone explain it?

lloyd, I never had that problem with the BG, in fact I usually liked it more after it loosened up a bit.

You and Wayne are correct: 1.28 BG has the most bite by far in my book. After my good luck with the CP/CF hybrid I think I'm going to try some full BA 1.17 again- it should be perfect in this heat. Man, it is so hot in SC this week. The humidity makes it like a sauna. I've been playing at 8 or 9 most days but can't get out tomorrow until 11...nasty

Are you using the BG as a full poly-I found better luck when crossing it with something else. Now that I think about it, I found the full 1.25 to be a bit like that-I could hit a feathery spin but non heavy ball with it. I ended up cutting it out and laying off the BG for six months. Hybriding it with a syn gut or multi might get rid of the problem. I think WAO has had good luck with that like I have.

Each time i've tried hybriding it with a multi.
