My PUMA Holy Grail!

^^^^^this is the one you are talking about

http://www.80s-tennis.com/pages/puma-g-vilas-power.html

there is the blue, black, then teal/aqua. one is no offshoot of the other. They vary by the mount of composite mix in them. The Blue has the most fiberglass% and IMO has the most feel due the highest % of fiberglass and I am not saying it is the most valuable since I can not even get $50 for it even though vilas used it first.

and like I said to Crisp who I am sure was talking about the super vs. the winner (i doubt he even knew about a vilas winner since they were rare and impossible to find NEW,a limited edition run that flopped big time in terms of sales which is why they renamed it the becker winner which sold like crazy, same frame same composite mix). The mass produce was the normal winner just like the mass produced super ( not the limited edition super with bulges at 12/3/9 which does not fetch as much as the normal super) and if you look at the auctions sites the super trumps the normal winner in terms of how much it fetches. I have seen NEW SUPERS go for more than $800, I once sold a grommet for a SUPER for $75. Think limited edition agassi radical or limited edition kramer, they bombed in terms of price/value.

I personally have no doubt of the existence of the aqua version or the Blue Puma as I have seen them with my own eyes 20+ years ago in Puma Pro Shop in Hong Kong. But some information seems to point out that the Blue Puma came out earlier than the aqua Vilas. And Vilas himself might have used the Blue Puma first.

P.S. I just have not seen the Gold Vilas myself though I heard about it for quite a while.

according to this site yes Vilas used the blue puma first,
http://www.80s-tennis.com/pages/guillermo_vilas.html

it is the closest thing to his wooden frames, why? because the blue puma has the most % of fiberglass

maxim is right...wtf does the screw in the winner do?, the super is super cool, the way it shrinks and expands...I somewhat remember the ads saying the Winner would change the head shape slightly or somehow change it from a baseline to an all court racquet, foggy but sweet memories from 20 years back...lol

that's the one! (along with an old puma winner)

Doesnt it look beautiful? :-)

Why does it look like the two main strings in the center of the racquet have like no tension on it.

It looks like the Puma Davis Cup Competition.. Exact same mold as the Winner and Super, but doesnt have the PCS handle system.. I had two of them at one stage..

ps: I have a Puma Becker Winner with ware on the hoop if anyone is interested in it...

I have 4 of these Puma Davis Cup Competition... they are really, really good to play with. Somehow I may be ditching my AG200, MG extreme pro for this almost 20 yr old racket. But I don't know the spec except that it weighs 354g with strings and over grip.

I bought several Puma Boris Becker Supers around 1990. They all came with little cardboard cut-outs with the Puma logo for stencilling. I never bothered using them. I imagine there are a lot of these around for people who care about stencilling their strings.

Chris: Would you mind posting the weights of your racquets? I have thought about buying some Estusa Beckers. The Puma's had the screw on the bottom, which I had to Super Glue in place to prevent the racquet from changing length during play. My understanding is that the Estusa doesn't have the screw and Becker's racquets had a non-functioning screw on the bottom.

Hi would you be willing to sell me one of the stencils ... I have a Puma Winner and Super and well they just would look way better with the Puma logo.
Thanks

@ericsson Would you happen to know the actual lead placed and the amount? Curious to know what his frame's actual spec :) thanks

Yes i do but note that the lead was not always placed at the same places, as you may know on the BB World Champion racket the lead places are painted on, the reason is because at that time (1995) he put the lead on those places so it's just a mark on the BB WC (Boris used single layer lead tape at 5 & 7, double layer at 10 & 2 in 1995-96). So in short, the lead various over time and place depending where he played.
Boris was a big guy but despite his fysics and playing style his racket was not that heavy, guys like Sampras, Muster, Lendl used much heavier rackets...

Boris was very picky about his rackets and balance, not to mention his strings!

@ericsson thanks for the info. BBWC by head is exactly what I have and really curious about the 5/7 painted spots. I had found the stock puma bb super to have sweet spot lower already but wouldn't leading at 5/7 making it even lower? Mine is still unstrung and actually felt really headlight
