So you are Ok with not having access to US Medicare at all? The Italian system takes care of everything till you die even if you are not a citizen? On what kind of visa will you be there?

I have several friends lin Italy and we've talked quite a bit about this. We may be true ex-pats, or may continue on visa depending on what my wife wants to do. I can't get Medicare until 65 anyways and I can retire at 54, so that is moot.

Wonderful place! I lived there for three years but before I could appreciate a society with universal health coverage, a 43% max tax bracket while still offering a social umbrella and a strong political force left of center.

I will let dgold44 discuss this but I believe he has his own business in Vegas so wouldn't surprise me if he retires very wealthy if you include the sale of his business interests.

dgold- I talked to your landlord... she said the problem is that your apartment smells like old, dead shrimp (???), and that she is getting too many complaints from your neighbors about you hanging your wrestling tights/gi in the window to air dry. It creeps them out a little.
The neighbors said it looks like a little old man hanging in the window.... but I informed the landlady that it is NOT a wrestling outfit.... it is just dgold STANDING and looking out the window monitoring the dregs of the city WEARING his wrestling gi ready for action. Your landlady thought that was funny. She must've thought it was really funny because she was laughing way too hard about it and said something I didn't understand. Sounded Russian.

How much exactly are you paying by month? I guarantee you Vegas is a joke (as in cheap) compared to a place like SF.

LOL. You can't even rent a 1 bedroom for that type of money in a reputable place in SF, or even in the surrounding Bay Area. You need to go back in time about 20 years to pay that money for a 2 bedroom in the surrounding area, but not in SF. Count your blessings.
