My TC95 Review

Has anyone experimented yet with really low tension copoly in their TC95s? I'm currently stringing at 51lbs but i'd like to experiment with 40, 35 even 30 lbs. Chris from TW has been experimenting with low tension and had some interesting experiences.
I am really curious about this question too. Im thinking that when I get one Ill use Hyper G at 43lbs?

Let me know what you think. I never tried Hyper G. I do have a couple of sets of RS Lyon on the way. I'm thinking of 40lbs and see what good and bad comes out.
You should go a bit higher with RS Lyon, I found it very underpowered and wanting faster response at under 48 lbs.

@ carlos mansur
can you please compare the tc95 (63ra, 16x19 are your specs right?)
to the yonex ai 98 (if thats the racquet with which you played before)
especially in terms of spin, launch angle, power and comfort ?

Can any of you compare the TC95 with the Prince Tour 95?
Sorry, very short since I've i responded too many times to this question. There is absolutely nothing PT95 can do that the TC95 cannot enhance more. And I liked the PT95, just TC95 is a different ball game

I used to play a PT57 when I was playing pro, but I was playing yonex ai prior angells. I liked them, but that filled feel was missing.

I was playing 350g fully loaded, 54 gut/50 poly

Frame A
I reduced the final weight to 335g, It was 350g after strings, overgrip and dampener. And let it a little less head light. Got better.

HI Carlos
I am using
TC95
16x19
63ra
320gm/310mm
(these are the same specs unstrung as a Pacific XforcePro and Yonex VCore 95D. big difference is the swingweight)

My numbers are very different to yours
unstrung is 324.5gm
strung TB16 343gm
Oring damp 345gm
Tourna 350gm
SW. 339ra on rdc
I added 25.5gm with TB16g string, a tourna grip and an O ring dampener.
You may need to check your figures on your total. I am guessing that you are at 360-365gm total, depending on
your string gauge.

On a side note.
I used to use the PT57A as well. The TC95 is similar. so this is what I am using.
With a soft flexy frame, I prefer a tight string bed for control. So the choice is:
A soft string tight (eg Gut poly hybrid) or
A stiff string medium tension
I choose the later
TourBite 16g at 48/52
Zero head distortion as it comes off the stringing machine. Great consistent feel for the life of the string.
Low powered enough to be able to really hit out with confidence.

My frames were 325g unstrung... 17g strings, 4g overgrip and 4g dampener, total 350g.

Your poly is heavier than hybrid... So we have the same final weight, but your balance is 310 and mine is 305... And you have 5g heavier strings... So your set up is more HH!

I was feeling my setup very HL... So

Reduced them 15g and now they are 335g fully loaded, and a litttle more HH...

Tomorrow Ill test them again... I will post the results!

Amazing difference! Very happy with the behavior of the frame now.
As soon as I have time I will measure the SW and the balance achieved with 15g less below the grip.

Now, i'm even comsidering buying another frame as a third backup...

"If you are moving to the new TC97, I would buy your TC95 16x19 63RA... the rest I can adapt to my settings myself!"

Can i just check you are talking about the yellow/black prince tour 95 and not the textreme tour 95? I saw from an earlier post that you had played the tex version.

Wow, those are exactly the specs I would get.

Can you maybe compare that TC95 to a Prince Tour 95 or any other similar stick, if you have used them?
I'm still not convinced, the sticks are worth the money...without a demo.

Ah yes, right you are. I did compare to textreme version. In general, TC95 is a racquet that i find no weakness in whatsoever.

Just contacted Paul about the TC95 I want... hopefully the 63RA stock isnt so low that I cant get mine soon.

The only thin beamed 95 that is foam filled with a sub 60RA strung that I can find right now. Hundreds of other reasons of course too but the ability to get a very headlight very heavy-ish and precision oriented frame is important to me.

How did you remove 15g from the grip?

Its been discussed here before... Somewhere... If you remove the pallets, you will see slots with lead... Just have to adjust to what you want... Add, remove or change balance

Wow...didn't know that! I've been away from the forum for a while.

I do have a pair of very similar specs as the ones previously discussed:
TC95
320g
310mm
63RA
16x19
Leather grip

However, with strings (Silverstring/TurboTwist) and Wilson overgrip it weighs 337g.
I guess maybe the 13g difference of mine to yours is mainly due to the leather grip?

Mine are now 310 unstrung... 335g fully loaded...
310g TC95
17g string
4g overgrip
4g dampener
335g total

I have leather grip too! But I have removed a lot of lead!

It has been weeks now playing with my TC95. I absolutely love serving with this stick. The very best versions of flatter, spin and kick serves. And i get so much accuracy.

^^^
The premium materials and the ability to customize specs make this frame great for returns and groundstrokes as well.

You have one or just guessing ?
I've already wanted to order one (95"/330gr/12HL/70RA), but doubt now, because Anton posts set me thinking ....I know Anton wrote about 97 and I'd like to have 95, but anyhow, I am waiting for reply of topspn :)

Does anyone have a side by side of the 16x19 and 18x20 stringbeds please?

Wanted to have a gander at the string spacing/density differences :)

What about groundstrokes and returns ?

I totally love my TC95 racquets in all aspects. I currently string them up @50lbs with YTEX quadro twist 16L. Ground strokes are comfortable, precise and depending on your hitting can be steady or crushing. Switching between heavy top spin and a flatter shot is a breeze. Touch for drop shots is sublime. I hit my ohbh with ease and just like my forhand change spin and pace. Volleys are excellent since I have all the maneuverability I need and very nice put away capability. i have not felt like I could be pushed around by any heavy hitter so stability as well as how solidly the racquet impacts the ball is top notch. I have found no deficiency I can speak of and just have a Yonex dampner and over grip, no customization or lead of any kind.

thnx.

Finally got a chance to hit with mine, 310g, 63ra, standard length strung with black widow at 55lb's. I usually take a while to adjust to a racquet but this felt good from the off, really nail the slice backhand, can get some really good angles on the ohbh, getting my range with the forehand but very easy spin giving a much heavier ball than I usually hit. Didn't hit too many volleys but the few felt very nice, good feel for the angles. I struggled a bit with the serve but that's the shot that takes longest to adjust to, give it a few more sets and I feel it will come good, got much more power and spin as the sets went on.

Really happy so far, if it's still as good after the honeymoon period I'll invest in another.

I have used Vantage and then Angell for the last 10 years. I happen to prefer the 63 flex. You will love the frame if you pick the right specs for you. You can also call Paul to discuss options.

yes I had a nice chat with Paul today very knowledgeable and just down to earth basic nuts-and-bolts discussion. that 63 RA is something you just have trouble finding now.. comes out to being like a 58 or 59 ra and its supposedly solid and very even tempered... ie no one part of the racket noticeably flexes more than the other. A very no nonsense approach. he seems to really like tennis and racquets. More 63Ra Tc95's on the way. They will be the current grey for at least a while... which i rather like. he seems very detailed and hands on when it comes to his suppliers. He has the bright opaque green grommets sorted out now.

Also it seems like our lil players kvetch revolt regarding the direction of most racquet designs has made Paul very busy. lol i like small businesses that cater to serious geeks... good for Paul that he zigged when the industry zagged.

Yes, Paul is a good and hardworking man. He definitely enjoys the technical side of racket design as well as being helpful to his customers.

He has a unique product composed of top notch materials with enough options that I believe can satisfy any player.

Very interesting that the 63 flex (which is actually 58-59 when strung) feels just right to me. It is obviously not stiff or rigid feeling, but also not a wet noodle like the Prince Exo3 Tour. On top of that, the dampening of the foam filling contributes to the excellent feel.

When did he say more TC95s will be available? I didn't follow what you meant by the bright green grommet comment?

Hewas expecting more TC95 RA 63 in a few days... just coming through customs... The Paris attacks might delay things a bit but I cant imagine it would be that bad.

For a while this year his green and orange grommets were semi-transparent... like gummibear candies. Im not into that He's made the bright green grommets opaque and bright green again and the orange ones should be a sharp, opaque bright orange in the near future. I think the black frames will look super sharp with bright opaque orange grommets. Paul says the TC95's will stay gray for the near future.

Thank you for the info!

I made a tension adjustment to my TC95 and took it down to 48lbs. Opened up nicely and control was as good as ever. For extra bonus, got more kick out of my kick serve. Next time I restring, I might take down to 45lbs.

Guys, I am due to restring my TC95 18x20, use it for dubs, want to try something different from the Tornado strings which will work better for dubs.

Thinking 17ga full bed of Signum Pro Firestorm at 54/52 or full bed of Weisscannon Silverstring 54/52?

I wrote this few minutes ago on TC97 thread! Should always string it below 50! At first, I was doing wrong too...
I am having trouble with control already with VS Touch 16g @ 54 lbs, probably already down to 51-52 after 7 hrs play. I cannot imagine going below 50 lbs. in your honest opinion, would this be more skill related than setup for me?

I'm currently at 48 full poly quardo twist and plays really well. Will be going lower and see what i get at 45lbs which i think will still give nice control and more spin potential with longevity

My nat gut/poly is at 60/55 so it all boils down to your personal preference and stroke mechanics. For me I need to tame the nattys power and gain more control.

I'm with you, my nat/poly is 56/53 and it feels pretty good, but I was thinking of moving my full nat gut to 55. After reading the suggestions here, it may be worth trying something out of my convention, although I really like the full nat gut setup over the hybrid.

For the last couple of weeks, I have been trying to stick to my TC97s and truly assess them. It is a nice frame no doubt and you do get good power, comfort and feel. I find you have to be a bit careful stringing the TC97. For me, a medium firmness poly at least and strung @50lbs or higher. That is the minimum for me or else with the flexy head, i find i get to much trampoline effect. I picked up my TC95 today for the first time in at least two weeks and i just love this frame. Simply put it ups the precision and control both in depth and laterally. My game is more all court with an emphasis to control points and truly dictate the pace. I like to hit with emphasis all the time and sometimes just going all out in the right time. This frame is absolutely perfect in every meaningful sense of tennis for me. Did i mention i love this frame?

Sounds good (we have similarities in playing style) and I think Im ordering early next week... January-February is a good time for me to switch frames and there's nothing else on the market with so,ilar specs to what I want.

Look forward to what you think of the frame and what strings you try.
