Nadal #1 a bit scripted?

I don't mean this as a Nadal hate thread. More like a tin foil hat conspiracy one if you want to say it that way.

Is it just me, or does Federer pulling out of Cincinatti, arguably the second most successful tournament of his career... seem a little TOO convenient? He was after all virtually guaranteed to take the #1 ranking this week. I know, I know... Roger doesn't care that much about the rankings, or at the very least it is not a top priority. This still seems a bit suspect to me... to say the least.

Now, I have no doubt that Nadal would have had opportunities to take back the #1 ranking in time...if not after a strong showing at the US Open, then during the slow hard court season in 2018 where Roger isn't likely to be able to defend all the points from AO, IW, Miami.

So, this just seems like an overly convenient headline cooked up to promote hype. Anybody else feeling this way?

I think Federer does have his eyes set on #1. But the top priority as always is health. After having issues in the 2nd set of Montreal final, he wasn't going to risk making further damage by playing at a Masters immediately next week. USO is by far the biggest prize in the remainder of this season.

So you're telling me that Federer, one of the most honorable man in all of sports, faked an injury so as to give #1 to his greatest rival? Ok.

And that he planned this "fake" injury in advance enough to tank a tournament final? I'm relatively new to serious tennis fandom but I am seriously shocked by the amount of crazy there is. This coming from someone who has 8k+ posts on a college football message board.

Dude Federer is not gonna give Nadal any handouts. Since Federer is already a rich guy Nadal would have to pay like 10 million $ for Federer to even consider skipping a MS tournament.

I wouldn't be surprised if Federer, the GOAT, deigned to allow Nadal to become No 1 for a few weeks, before he assumed his own rightful position at the pinnacle of the sport.

I recall at the YEC many years ago, in 2009, Federer lost a match against Del Potro by a very specific scoreline, in order to prevent Murray from progressing.

That is what the GOAT can do...

I read somewhere nike played a hand in this. Gave fed a bonus for sitting out.

Its not that it is scripted in the way you are implying

Its that we allow any clay events to receive points on the professional level of tennis

It is a trash surface

I know that your goal was to insult Nadal like everyone else and put down his accomplishment for coming back at no.1 and pretend that either it's unimportant or undeserved, but you have also managed to insult Federer at the same time by implying that he's some corrupt or dishonest person. Congratulations, 2 birds with 1 stone.

I think Federer does everything he can to promote the sport, and no I don't think he is above it. I think tennis as a whole is his priority rather than self promotion.

I also think he rather likes Nadal despite their being rivals. I don't mean this as a disrespect to either player.

And of course, perhaps Roger simply took caution with his health and believes this is the right course heading to the USO. As I said, it's true he doesn't care that much about the rankings so it is entirely possible.

I think the year end #1 is more important than who's #1 a few weeks here & there during the year and that's going to come down to who performs better at the USO, remaining masters 1000s, and the YEC. considering the surface and time of year I don't see rafa outperforming roger in any of these at the moment.

everything is scripted, we're all part of a simulation. There is no free will, so I don't even hold OP responsible for execrable thread.

If he wanted for Nadal to become number 1 he would have skipped Canada or you think that the conspiracy started right after Torronto? Fed net worth is around 400mln, unofficially is probably a lot bigger .. so what kind of bonus could Nike offer him so that he could bend over?

I'm not implying anything to do with a payoff. Nor even a personal favor. It's about marketing the sport and generating headlines. And of course it could just be paranoia I'm the first to admit

If it is scripted, then I might as well just stick to watching WWE, since they do a better job with scripted storytelling.

If tennis is scripted like the WWE, perhaps we'll start to have interference in finals by other players, and special guest umpires? If we have a Fedal USO final, perhaps Novak will interfere? On who's side will he be on?
Seriously OP, if you couldn't tell Fed was injured in the final against Zverev in Montreal, you either need glasses and/or a shrink. No conspiracy theories here.
