Let us debate about the hypothetical but plausible matchup between Nadal at the AO 2017 and Sinner at the AO 2024. I included a non-manipulated and democratic poll that would let forum members express their views and vote for any option.
Arguments pro-Nadal: despite his brutal physical battle of 5 hours against a zoning Dimitrov, he was still leading 3-1 in the 5th set a fantastic Federer who exhibited a great forehand, solid serve and a superb backhand across the entire tournament. Sinner lost the first 2 sets against a Medvedev who was playing way worse than Federer, and some amy argue that Medvedev's tiredness played a factor. Also, 2022 Nadal beat Medvedev in 5 sets at the AO (same result as Sinner in 2024), and this was 2017 Nadal, 5 years younger and thus better.
Arguments pro-Sinner: he beat, outplayed indeed, the AO king and reigning champion Novak Djokovic in 4 sets, without his serve being broken. In fact, it was the first time in Novak's career that he completed a Grand Slam match without having a break point.
