Nadal a lower level player than Federer/Djokovic says Fognini

Not just matchups but also surface preferences. Fognini shares a best surface with Nadal, so he has the game to push him on clay and on hard. By contrast, while he could potentially give Federer/Djokovic a real run for their money on clay (matchup permitting), he would just have nothing to test them with on hard courts.

Given this, it is noteworthy that he has never played Federer on clay and only twice played Djokovic on clay. If he played them on clay more often, he might come to the conclusion that they are not as good on that surface as Nadal is.

Of course he would say that. He has more wins against Nadal than he does against Fed or Djokovic. Medvedev said Djokovic was easier than Nadal. So it's about match ups.
Ferrer believes that Nadal is better even though he's had less success against Federer and Djokovic.

Therefore, your logic is flawed

Tennis is all about matchups.
Fognini relies on hitting heavy on the rise off both wings. That's a working strategy against nadal as rafa provides a high ball and hits lately. But at the same time, it's a suicide against fedovic who are better than almost everyone, and both of them can easily snatch the time away from you by the earliest possible hitting on the rise, redirecting and baseline half volleying regularly.

Fog has played Rafa 16 times and has only won 4 of them. Last year in the lead up to Rome, Rafa, unusually, lost in MC, Barcelona, Madrid before he got his head together and said he had a talk to himself after taking 3 sets to beat Mayer in Barcelona because he was getting down on himself with frequent injuries. After losing to Fiog in MC, Rafa said that was the worst match he'd played on clay for 14 years.

So Fognini is 4:12 against Rafa, 1:8 against Djoker and 0:4 against Federer.

Lol, call me when this mug achieves at least 1/10000000000000000000000000 of what Nadal achieved in his career. He reached one slam 1/4 final in his whole career and didn't even play it. Well, yeah, he is somehow always facing the worst versions of Nadal-3 times in 2015 (Nadal's worst year) and in MC 2019 when Nadal played his worst clay match in 2005-2019.

Nadal was absolutely terrible in that MC semifinal. Just watch the game at 4-4 in the first set. 4 pathetic unforced errors. And some people believe Fognini (who didn't even play well in the first set, but it's impossible to lose when your opponent is just missing every second shot) was just too good for him. :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Peak Fog on clay > Any version of Nadal on clay.

Outside of 2015 Fognini has one win in eleven tries against Nadal. He's just a delusional clown riding the confidence he gains from having beaten Nadal at his lowest points.

Fognini is clinging on to the 2015 season when he got the better of the very worst version of Nadal. All players have terrible seasons. I don’t hold those seasons against them.

How about this? When Donskoy was asked in 2017 about Federer being in his draw, he said that he was more worried about Youzhny. See 2:14 until the end. Donskoy and Fognini are co-GOATS. Wait. They are tied for 2nd. I forgot about MuryGOAT.

The Fog has some scar tissue with Nadal. He has one win of Nadal in 8 matches since 2015 and only 4 out of 12 matches since 2013.

Then again, Nadal only has 1 win over Fed in 8 matches since 2015, and 3 wins over Djokovic in 13 matches since 2015, so he does have a point.

Well I kind of agree with Fognini. This is the reason Federer and Djokovic have been able to be more dominant overall and have had consecutive dominant years which Nadal has not been able to put together.

Rafa has a more limited skill set than the other two and gives more time to opponents by playing far behind the baseline and also with his topspin shots. That makes him more prone to upsets.

The fact that Nadal has been able to win 7 non Clay slam and have 8 runnerups is an unbelievable testament to his toughness.

Why does everyone keep mentioning matchups as if Fognini is incapable of looking past his own matchup with Nadal? Like he can't evaluate Nadal against other players LMAO. TTW is worse than a close minded Grandma.

Rafa has been injured far more than Fedr and Djoker. the only complete season Rafa had between 2011 & 2018 was 2015.
