Nadal after loss: "I think I wasn't 100 percent ready to play at this level"

guys i don't think many of you get what he is saying. i don 't think he means physically he wasn't 100%. he means he wasn't 100% ready to take on someone as good as djokovic. he could scrape by against the lower ranked guys but against one of the big 4 (or even delpo as it was shown in montreal) he wasn't able to play that level of tennis

Djokovic beat Nadal last year in Cincy 6-1, 7-5, Djokovic beat him 6-1, 6-4 this year. A one game difference, if Nadal was "ready" or not to play at this level, a one game difference doesn't seem like much of a difference at all. It doesn't matter if it was 2008 Nadal or 2009, Djokovic would have beat him by a similar score with a Nadal 2 month break or not. The speed of this court makes it a great matchup for Novak.

How many of you diehard Nadal fans are preparing your excuses for his loss at the US Open?

Nadal was talking about how he felt in this match, not about the scoreline. He feels he can't hang with the big boys yet. It's not like he was expecting to win Montreal and Cincy. He needs practice.6 matches aren't gonna erase 2 months off the tennis court. It's not the result that was Nadal's problem,it was his game, and I am not talking just about the Djokovic game.

Who needs excuses? Let's look at the facts.Nadal has just one semifinal in USO so it's not like he is the favourite there. If he makes quarters after a 2 month break it would be a terrific result for him.

Nadal ought to skip the USO if he is not 100%.This was just a MS and he had the likes of Mathieu to deal with at this point.Blake;Roddick and Del Potro to name a few were all out of absent so with a healthy draw;things will be tough on him;)

Why? I thought he had served his time and is allowed to resume playing now, isnt he?

are you slow or what?
served what time fool?
if he isn't 100% to play at a higher level in NY because he will have to;he ought to skip it

Why would he skip it? He wasn't 100% at AO and still won it.

I see he fooled you too with his not 100% excuse for skipping Wimby.

where is break point he will have a field day with this. But honestly BP posted that Nadal said he was at 100% and that no excuse should matter since he said I am 100% etc etc. He played fantastic against berdych making shots like prior to madrid 09. Djokovic just exploited his weaknesses.

Nadal has to be very frustrated with the US Open. More so than Fed was with the FO. Fed actually HAD a chance to win all those years when he lost. Nadal has never come close to the USO Championship. I think that his style of play prevents him from winning the US Open so I believe he doesn't take it as serious as the clay season.

Nadal has turned into a drama queen regarding his alleged 'injuries'; it's really irritating. Everyone on the tour has physical issues from time to time, that's part of the job, yet Rafa is the only one who ALWAYS refers to it when he loses.
I really have lost some respect for him in the last 6 months.

I agree, he's been acting like a drama queen.

I mean, the guy has had plenty of injury breaks in the past and he never acted his dramatic about it. He missed FOUR MONTHS after Madrid 2005 and when he came back he beat Federer in the Dubai final in his second tournament back!

He also missed the Masters Cup and Davis Cup at the end of last year due to injury but won the Australian Open when he returned!

Two semis is close but you are correct. 2nd round loss to blake, etc. Where as Fed got the Semi, then 3 finals, and then he actually won.

I wasn't, and I don't care about his comment either. But maybe you weren't reading the boards the last few years when Fed would say something like, "my back wasn't feeling that great" and there would immediately be 15 threads calling Federer an arrogant excuse maker.

From what I can see you are a Federer fan.Why do you respond to these people that you consider ****s? You are only making the problem worse because you are feeding the trolls IMO.If someone makes a deluded thread don't enter. It's quite simple really. If one user has a fixed mindset against a particular player/his type of game/his personality and doesn't accept other opinions(when he/she speaks in a civil manner of course) I put him on my ignore list and be done with it.This is Tennis Talk, but from what I've seen so far "tennis" is used as an excuse by fanboys to start flame wars over stupid little arguments.

You are not looking at this in context.Who was Nadal in 2005? He was a one time RG winner. That's it.No one would have died on tour if Nadal was MIA,including Nadal. He knew he was young and could come back any time.Way less pressure.Last year he missed TMC and DC after getting injured at Paris Masters in 31 Oct.That's almost winter time and he came off a great year so again he didn't lose that much.

This year he had problems since MC in the SPRING.He lost his clay court edge at least in part because of his knees, lost RG,withdrew from WB,lost nr.1,dropped to nr.3 and came back on his worst surface.Nothing like this happened to any other player from his or Fed's generation. To fall so far from such great heights in such a short ammount of time.I think he's taking it quite well.Nadal is not a drama queen, the media are drama queens for lamenting so much over his situation. It's a tough situation but it gets worse for fans when you hear about it everyday,in the papers,on TV,on internet forums and so on.Nadal talked 3 or 4 times about his injuries on his own.The rest were questions by reporters and rafa isn't exactly fluent in English so he ends up saying the same things about his injuries because I don't think he can explain it well in medical terms.
Even this thread has misled people.Nadal is saying he isn't there game-wise(not 100% in his play level)in order to beat top guys and half of the people who posted here seem to think he is talking about his knees.

It's nice to see that this board will dish out their flames when Nadal says something like this. Federer's interviews have been getting cherry-picked by Nadal fans on this board for as long as he's been around.

BTW, once again Nads fails to meet Federer in a hardcourt final. Is everyone starting to understand why their h2h is lopsided?

Yup. Federer can't beat Nadal if Nadal isn't there.

Yup I agree, drama queen as usual. Before USO begin it will be the usual "mission impossible scenario" he brings out so he has an excuse if he loses.

A. I dont think Nadal was trying to imply hes not 100%. Hes just hasnt had enough match time to feel the way he did before the time off which means he not 100% ready to play at peak level.

B. Yes Fed-Nadal h2h is lopsided because Nadal just looses out before the finals too frequently on hard courts. BUT maybe that will change now that Murray has moved up to the #2 spot.

C. I was watching the match and Gilbert kept implying that he saw Rafas stomach taped. Anyone have any info on that?

Shut up *******. I wanted to change names because of idiots like you attacking me just because it says (Nadal_Freak) on the post. And they wouldn't let me change my name.

You should have done what I did (although I did it for different reasons): I asked the admins to delete my account and signed up for a new one later.

I was (or existentially still am) oneleggedcardinal.

That's fine, but you've still violated the terms, I think. Good that you're getting that done, though. Oh, and, in my opinion, people weren't being jerks to you solely because of your name...some of the stuff you said provided a lot of ammunition.

Hey I wondered where that poster went, glad to see you're still posting(although under a different name).

So, basically,,,,,,,, Nadal is the Serena Williams of the ATP.

First, he is too injured to play Wimbledon, but not injured to practice during the same time.

Then, he was 100% before the Berdych match, and now he isn't after the loss to Joker.

Not only is he less than truthful, but has turned into a excuse machine taking a page from the Williams sisters. Nice.

Why, thank you, Zagor. I have to say, if there were a vote for best poster, you'd have mine. :)

Yeah, I left for a little while because I was spending a bit too much time on here...a mistake I fear I'm making again.

Heh,thanks man.Yeah, this place can be really addictive :).

Nadal loose so much respect in my eyes when he constantly take away the victory from his opponents!! It´s hardly never he says that he was simply outplayed because his opponent played better them him and was more fit.

Gosh! This forum is full of idiots who can't even read properly! Are you all in the first year of primary school? Nadal says that his game isn't 100% which is nothing new or surprising. Everybody who ever touched a racket knows that after 2,5 months off tennis he doesn't have the game, because he hadn't had the competitive match practice. That's what Nadal has been saying in all his pressers and interviews. He says that his current game level is below top 5 players. The only way to be 100% gamewise is to play as many matches vs the top players as possible. And the local ********** call it complaining, whining, disrespect. Why don't you learn reading before writing?

this looks like a interesting post, but being that I can't read properly, have no idea what you just rambled on about.

Anyway, do you have an opinion of why Nadal is sounding more and more like Serena Williams?? You know, with all the excuses and fake injuries he keeps referring to?

I recall you joining the usual lynch mob back around Madrid time when Federer said he's ready to win. IIRC, you were quite eager to parse Federer's German language presser. Does "der Sieg" ring a bell? Talk about hypocrisy.

going back to the original post, it seems a fair summary for a player coming back from injury, nothing wrong at all. from this and his "i'm 100%" quote pre-berdych, i take it that the body is there, it's not going to let him down, but he's not got the matches or the match fitness.
