Nadal and Fed will never meet in the US open sadly.

I wish they had met in the final at least once, imagine the buildup from ESPN and the anticipation from the fans.
Now that would have been EPIC. Alas, it is not to be.

Forgot about this, yeah it's pretty incredible. 5 meetings at RG, 4 at AO, 3 at Wimbledon, and a big fat 0 at US Open

Pretty bizarre when you think about that they have 5 and 3 USO titles yet never met there once.

about to be 4 unless the guy in your icon can stop him. it hurts my soul thinking about it being no.4 and only one less than 5. *shudders*

It very well could happen but I'm curious to see what kind of challenge Thiem presents tomorrow night.

lol imagine clay titan thiem not able to do much to rafa at rg but giving him a fight on uso. says a lot of about the surface I suppose as well.

I can see me living to regret this post, but forget Thiem beating Rafa. I got that Djokodal part 4 in New York coming up feel. Just seems right

Don't worry dear Fed fan. If that makes you feel better, Djokovic will win 100% sure the US Open. He is playing better than anyone.

Thiem actually plays well here though. It's his best Slam outside RG and he's made the 4th round or better 4/5 times he's played. If he plays like he did against Anderson, it should be a great match.

They were not meeting this year IMO. I was confident that Djokovic was beating him.

Their chance to meet has long expired.

Probably will, but I'm still curious to see what Theim brings to the court. I think he has the potential to at least challenge Rafa. I hope it's not RG part 4.

Should have met in 2011 had Fedr not imploded after the proverbial Lucky Return. Any other year, it would've been boring and dull with one player being much better than the other.

I am completely serious.

This guy has been doing this for the majority of his presence here lately.

One has to be blind to not see it.

it is a girl lol and you are right in this instance

So, why would it "hurt your soul" what someone else does?

Are you not happy with how and how much Federer won at the US Open?

can't deny it, don't want fed's slam record to go and well tbh i'm just not fond of what the us open has become in general and i don't like seeing it play the way it does, winning from returning from the vip box is just not the type of tennis i enjoy but to each their own.

i mean lets not like act like other fans don't feel the same way about their favs rivals when it comes to winning slams, we all want our favs to hold on to certain records

Doesn't the fact that the Open has become a caricature of itself make your appreciation for what Federer did stronger, instead of what transpires now make it less important?

And, what have what the others think to do with your personal feelings and values?

It seems that you drive home the point I was making: that you are more concerned with records than with valuing the game of Federer for what it is, and using the others to gauge your expectations to boot.

lol I think you are making a bigger deal here but ok. no fed's tennis is first and foremost what I love (unless he is shanking left and right and making 50 double faults).

in any case, even if I did care a lot more about records, what does it matter. I wouldn't be the first nor the last and that goes for all fanbases. I can't believe this much has been made all because I don't want nadal winning the uso. people like you are just weird

I think that people posting massive knee-jerk reactions are weird, especially if they are unwarranted, but maybe I am in the minority.

Lol?

why do you take it as a knee jerk reaction? are you referring to simply saying I don't like the idea of nadal having 4 usos as knee jerk?

also yes lol? at this entire unwarranted exchange imo from a comment that has been echoed multiple times whether it be fed, nadal, Djokovic etc.

2008 and 2017 are the disappointing ones - I'm a fan of the Novak-Rafa trilogy from the first part of this decade, as well as Del Potro's fantastic '09 run, so the near misses in 2009-11 and 2013 are fine as is.

2017 was shaping up to be the battle for #1 for the season, but wasn't to be. 2008 would've meant epic title fights across a 4 major cycle, even if I'd slightly favor Fed to have won that one.

Hey, maybe they'll finally meet in NYC next year with Nadal at 19 bidding for 20. That'd be a hell of a setup for their first meeting at the Open.

You said that it "hurts your soul" thinking about it, and that phrase, while obviously not to be taken literally, also shows deep emotional investment in what someone else does in comparison to your favourite.

It is not the first time either, but now the reason is even more weird.

Federer is out in an uncharacteristic fashion, and suddenly what Nadal can potentially achieve is such a problem (and Nadal hasn't achieved it just yet).

It doesn't help that you actually admitted to your fears in the past, which is how your weird way of "appreciating" Federer came to my attention.

lmao an obvious exaggeration. true I don't like nadal (perhaps some due to his fanbase idk), his style of play and his recent mindless tennis comment has really soured me that coupled with how the USO plays, I'm not fond of him winnign the tournament.

but your weird analysis of my comments here and there are even more annoying.

lol and I'd hardly call them fears, I mean I have actual fears irl . this is a tennis forum, lots of people post things that make it sound extreme when irl they are more calm than they sound. like please get over yourself and the need to dissect every word I post and continue sitting on your pedestal acting high and mighty. I especially love how others dictate how a fan responds to a loss. I didn't realize it was a freaking crime to not want your fav's biggest rival to not win a tournament and extend his gs record. also, fyi if he does win, good on him and I'll congratulate him. this has turned into a much bigger thing that it needs to be, but here, have a cookie I guess. I'm sure you can sleep comfortably tonight now that you showed me how I truly feel about my fav. I'm done with this useless back and forth.

I appreciate fed just fine, thanks for telling me how I feel though. I think I'd rather deal with the haters/trolls than this.

You are entitled to your knee-jerk reaction.

I am entitled to comment on it.

That is the long and short of it.

Last year was their last chance, had Fed not been injured, it could’ve been a solid match.

But it really should’ve happened between 08-11.

I was just expressing my opinion for the sort of "appreciation" you display.

By all means

lol I clearly like to torture myself, because here I am again reading your hilarious responses. but thank you again for your opinion on my appreciation. I appreciate fed just fine tyvm, you can carry one and continue to arm chair assess other comments on your high horse.

I should know better than to engage with someone w/o an icon, never brings good things.
