Nadal and the French Open next year

It's going to be a great year.

When was the last time someone won a GS without going thru Fed?

Right now Potro seems to have the best chance of beating Nadal at the FO, Nole might have something to say about it though.

I just can't discount Nadal though, he went something like 8 months without showing much form at the end of 2007. His form now has no influence on his RG performance I hope.

It also depends on the draw. If rafa gets Del Potro and his nemesis Soderling in his half of the draw, then it will be tough for him to reach the final. The French crowd are not goting to root for him, and Toni just made it worse after verbally attacking the fans by calling them “stupid”. I don’t know if the clay will be fast or slow, if it’s the same, Nadal is at the disadvantage against the big hitters. Players aren’t fear of him anymore after sensing his vulnerability, they know what it takes to beat him. So many variables come into play.

The players that can knock Nadal out next year would be:

-Federer
-Soderling
-Nole
-Del Potro

So in reality how do most of you feel Nadal performs at the French Open next year? Is he going to go back to dominating it? Wondering what is the overall consensus. This if of course assuming he is healthy and so is everyone else.

It depends on whether he gets his head back into the game or not. If he continues playing without passion or a game plan, I see him going out early in many tournaments in 2010.

1. Fed is excused from future GS losses.

2. His legacy is immortal

3. Rafa was just some guy that won a few big clay tournaments.

4. Hes not GOATable.

5. I just don't think he will win any more GS.

Vehemently Agreed on points 1 & 2
Agreed on point 4.
Epic fail on points 3 and 5. You're as bad as the *******s.

Maybe I'm living in the past but this is how I see it.

AO - Neck and Neck Between Fed and Rafa.
RG - Nadal Clear Favorite.
W - Neck and Neck Between Fed and Rafa.
US - Fed Clear Favorite.

Let's see what happens.

I agree, that's how I see it as well. Although Del Potro may be more of a favorite at the US Open than Roger next year.

I predict Nadal either regaining his title, or losing in the finals. Federer is still a contender sure, but his French Open was won unconvincingly (his small blip against Haas definately called in question his quality of tennis he had during the French) But I see Roger going far, most likely atleast another semi.

3 was a blatant troll, my apologies. Rafa's accomplishments at the FO was a great feat.

5 is my opinion and it makes sense to me.

I don't see Rafa winnning another GS ever.

If Roger wins AO, I see a possible CYGS.

I think this is Roger's biggest goal - the calendar year grand slam.

He really wants this deep down I think. What a way to go out if he does.

You don’t for sure b/c no one can prove it.

However, you are in no position to make anymore prediction b/c it’s too embarrassing…..

WRONG!

Seriously, you’re delusional.

why do u keep bringing this up, the last prediction was made in 05 when the only foreseeable players were possible candidates, others in the same thread had similar opinions, like right now would you expect del potro to remain with 1 slam, and losing 5-6 times out of 100 on clay ARE FACTS, *******, you're a delusional nerd

pretty much agree. If nadal remains healthy, he should still be considered the favorite for FO.

I think he's a clear favorite to win (better than 50/50) if he skips Barcelona and maybe Monte Carlo too. If he tries to run the table on all the clay court tournaments then I'd put his odds right at 50% or maybe a little below; still the favorite but he could be vulnerable to a handful of players (Federer, DP, Djokovic, maybe even Davydenko or Nalbandian if he's healthy by then). In an odd way, I think Murray could factor in as well since this is the slam where nobody really expects him to win (not as much pressure on him). Kind of like Agassi winning Wimbledon.

Nadal will never win another GS.

Nadal is a good guy nonetheless. But the Eye of the Tiger is gone.

Let's make a bet, I bet that he will indeed win another GS. And if you lose you never post again, if you win.............

Just for fun, if you are too afraid it is ok nothing wrong with that.

my tournament picks for 2010 in order of likely win, with the proviso that I think Federer will win a slam.

AO- Murray, Federer, Nadal, Cilic (there's always one making a run, think it'll be him)
French- Nadal, Del Potro, Federer, Gonzo, Monfils
Wimbledon- Nadal, Federer, Roddick
US Open- Del Potro, Murray, Federer, Djokovic

be fascinating to see whether faster courts were a problem for nadal or if it was just the injury and a bad match/ match-up at last year's french

99% Rafa takes it, sure he learned not to wear himself down playing as many tournaments before FO next year..

Nadal is in a confidence slump and once he wins a few tournaments his top level play will return. I have noticed that he is not hitting with as much clearance over the net as he used to.

Depends on his health, form, and level. If he comes in overexerting himself again and loading up on the schedule from the AO on. He may get upsetted again by a heavy baseline hitter. I dont see dominance coming from Nadal again sad to say. Hes not getting any younger, and his health is questionable. THis is a guy who cant finish a season healthy.. Hasnt for the last 2 seasons
