He also executed the shot at least 3 times in his match against Hanescu in Rome 2010. I think they are shown on the Youtube highlight clips.

By now, players should know that when Nadal is stretched wide on the BH side, they can expect that shot to come cross court. It amazes me how many players still don't cover that. I don't recall him ever hitting that shot DTL. Players should camp out cross court and make him go DTL.

You are correct. Nobody executes this shot like Nadal. You can usually expect to see it at least twice in every match. I'm guessing we'll also see that shot tonight in his match against Berdych as well.

Tonight? What day is it? I thought that started on Friday, isn't today Thursday?

This is how I miss so many big matches.

Thank goodness for TT!

And, yeah, that shot is a thing of beauty.

someone who wants to win the point.

On one hand, charging the net, assuming that they're following in on a decent shot, will usually put pressure on the opponent to make a good passing shot. Then again, it's clay and the slow courts surely give Nadal enough time to set up for a decent passing shot. Plus he's the clay GOAT btw

yeah, Rafa=lefty Borg on clay, that's why I asked the question in the first place

I saw the highlights but didn't see any c/c backhand flicks... there were many good points however.

Hanescu hits an impressive one-handed backhand flick here...

I thought Nalbandian was a master at this shot but Nadal just takes it to a whole another level. And regarding why players don't cover the DTL... it's just natural for them to follow the path of the ball and cover the DTL... they never expect the ball to come back cross-court - it's a shot not many players possess in their arsenal.
not a huge nadal fan, but man he can hit that shot. scary that it's almost a high percentage shot for him.
Yeah... I'm always on the lookout for this shot because nobody's ever hit it like him before (especially 2 handers). If you come across any videos let me know!
That was a great point but I was specifically looking for cross-court shots :)
