I've been lazy in looking at the schedule, and didn't realize the main draw of Rome starts just a day or two after the USO final, with RG the next week. Is Novak definitely playing Rome?

Yes, but Rafa has, I think, 9850 so he can't add any at Rome. In theory, if Thiem played and won Rome after winning the USO, he could climb to #2 before RG.
