Nadal Cheating??

if it is accurate the ATP should at a mimnimum levy a huge fine.
i dont think they will make them replay the point or game.lol
or take the trophy away from him.
it should be treated as seriously as if he gambled on tennis.imo

Quite honestly I think Nadal is just bringing something into the open which happens all the time. I'm not condoning the behaviour, but this is not something that is exclusive to Nadal, or Djokovic for that matter.

There is no news here.

Problem is this isn't the first time he's done this. They let him get away with it for years, along with other "quirks" that border on cheating.

If that's true, then all players that look at their group box should be fined, especially when they look to them whether or not to call a challenge.

Humbalito should've been defaulted for that. No more, no less. Damn, I wish umpires had balls to teach Parera some basic tennis rules.

I think you might be right, but I mean, it's pretty shocking though, isn't it?

Not really. The ATP allow this behaviour and Nadal certainly didn't invent it. Maybe he thinks this cannot be challenged by the powers that be, because it will stir up a vipers' nest. Even if coaches are banned from the stands we would still have the same number 1 ranked player so nothing changes for me.

Enough with this garbage, man! So uncle Tony told him to serve out wide, big deal! You guys make it sound like uncle Tony is some kind of sorcerer, I mean come on, he just pulled it out of his a*s. How much tennis do you think uncle Tony knows? 10% of what Nadal knows? Maybe even less? Players like Nadal and Federer cannot be coached, because they forgot more about tennis yesterday than any coach ever knew. Like Sampras used to say, "the only thing a coach can do is check my ball toss on the serve".

it's either a rule, or it isn't. figuring out yourself where to serve on a pressure point is part of the beauty of this individual sport. of course it had little bearing on the outcome of the match, but like a few people have said, it's just . . . irritating, and counter to the principles of the game. whether or not you find principles important is a matter of opinion, obviously.

You can make excuses and defend all you want but it was
CHEATING and Nadal admitted to it.

Regardless if it affected the outcome (which it did not) it is very unethical and he should be punished for it.

It is a sad day when an ambassador of the sport knowingly and willingly breaks the rules, admits it to the public, and nothing is done about it.

It's not a big deal:

It's only cheating if you're called out.

Djokovic does the same thing so it's all good

Mirka yelled out "Move your feet Roger!" So the GOAT cheats too

Time wasting is also no big deal, Wawrinka does it so can Rafa

Odesnik was using...oops...

Yeah but Federer using a bathroom break to break Davydenko's momentum and allow the shadow to fully pass the court at AO isn't cheating is it?

Player preparation is handled very professionally these days, they time when they eat and drink and there is no way that he would need a bathroom break after just 1 set.

PURE CHEATING FROM FEDERER so lets take his AO 2010 title away because he would've lost that match

Sorry it's not cheating if the rule only exists on paper and isn't enforced AT ALL. Why do you think everyone does it and has done it since at least the 80's? Because not only is in an outdated rule but the ATP has left EVERYTHING regarding to it in the hands of the umps. What are the umps supposed to do? Keep on eye on the box and one on the court? Coaching is defined as communication between player and box. This could be done in sooooo many ways but a lot of these options would be cut down if they just banned coaches from games. Why don't they do it?

Because they tacitly approve and it has been that way since before Nadal was a pro. See legendary players like agassi and graff getting coached. Even the female federer as she has been called, justine(who doesn't buttpick, grunt, etc) henin is famous for her coaching bit. Soderling was also getting coached like crazy in this years RG final, Magnus signaling to him many times to come forwards cause he would hit a big shot and just stay in no man's land instead of coming to the net. Djoker also looks to his box many times during matches. Don't even get me started on verdasco, especially in the AO 09' SF(when both guys were getting coached).

The ATP need to stop being hypocrites about this and step out from the safe middle ground they have built for themselves. You either recognize this problem and ADDRESS IT with measures or simply ban coaches from games. It's not rocket science.

As for being an ambassador of the sport, If Nadal has inspired jut one kid to play tennis on a pro level, he has done his part.

Question to the members of this forum: when was the last POINT PENALTY(not warning) you saw given for timewasting or excessive coaching?

Bollettieri has said that 90% of juniors get some coaching in during their games so even non-stars are not receiving coaching penalties during matches by the umps which only serves to re-inforce my initial point. Coaching(and timewasting to a degree) are and have been tacitly allowed on tour for many many years(way before Nadal) because this rule is very rarely enforced. So basically you can get some coaching, but not too much coaching. A pretty hypocritical view IMO and a very relaxed interpretation of this "rule".

let me break out the rule book..aha..page # 53432 article 34 - A player is allowed to go peepee.

Rule # 342234 - article 256 - A PLAYER IS NOT ALLOWED EXTERNAL COACHING

Rule # 989933 Article 666 - Renamed Rafa Rule #1 - MTO can be used and abused as required. They can also be taken anytime to disrupt the rhythm of opposing players.

You guys are full of it... what he meant by that is that the strategy of the match was for him to serve wide... It doesn't mean that they specifically told him, at that point in time during the match, to serve wide... they told him this before the match and during the rain delay... You fools always looking for ways to discredit the man's accomplishments... get a life.

Thanks for clearing it up. I never thought that Rafa was a cheater and I never implied that he was. My previous statements in this thread do not refer to Rafa but to juanparty's previous thread where he, mistakenly [ :( ] or deliberately [ ], posted a link to the article that started this discussion, as well as the discussion in the other thread.

I do not think that Rafa is a cheater.

They were talking specifically about that one part of the match. And if the translation is correct the interviewer talks about Nadal asking where to serve at that point .

Let me guess, you're religious and believe the Bible is the word of a kind and loving Lord. The passages that clearly contradict this perception are incorrectly interpreted.

Carry on...

God Bless

Sorry nice try.

Federer asked for a bathroom break and the umpire gave it to him. It is clear as day in the rulebooks you can take one.

Did Nadal ask the umpire if it was ok to ask for coaching advice from uncle Toni? Is there not a clear as day written rule in the rulebook saying that coaching is not allowed?

Again your rationalism is not founded on facts and your excuses dont "excuse" the fact that Nadal did literally and morally cheat.

It's with almost all players, the ****s are just sour. Also Nadal need no choach at all to beat Roger.

Where was all the outrage during the Nadal and Verdasco match at the AO 09 when Verdasco and his box were SCREAMING at each other and doing all kinds of hand gestures completely in the open?

My guess is the same people "outraged" here were shouting "Go Verdasco!" It's amazing how stupid people can be. Let's see video of that final game.

No one cared since both were cheating, what good for the goose....

Both guys were probably coached:

Here is Nadal's take on Dasco's coaching at 10:01

I seriously don't think coaching should be disallowed. The rule needs to be changed. If players receive coaching, overall level of play will increase.

And why do you think that?

Coaching is moot as far as I am concerned. I don't think a match's outcome can be changed because your coach signaled this and that because it is up to you to actually implement your game and to steady yourself while doing it. Coaches can't give major tactical advice in the heat of a match, all I've seen from coaches is stuff like "come in more", "yes, you should challenge that" and give moral support to their players. Does anyone think Nadal won USO cause he he apparently got told where to serve beforehand(if the translation is true)? He fought off djoker's best by that point and was up a double break in the last game, he probably had nerves because the trophy was close, not because he was in danger of a djoker comeback.

Nadal SURELY got tactical advice in the rain delay and lost that set

I agree. The rule on using using abusive language while talking to the Chair is moot as well. How does it change the match?Besides, everyone does it.So let's chuck it out.
Same with racquet breaking.Dosen't change the match.

LOL

No, it's a sad day when *******s are so pathetically desperate.

Stop acting like a drama queen. Nobody said this is the only reason why he won the USO! That being said, in some cases this might actually turn a match around...

I´m not acting liek a drama queen.
You guys here are acting like this is a BIG DEAL.

Ok wise MR. Omega tell me if this is one of those cases..

Let's say for the sake of argument that he was being coached. Why don't they show it? Especially if he's this serial cheater?

Sorry, I don't buy it, because if they had evidence there is no way they wouldn't show it. They'd be combing through the video reels looking for anything they could find to discredit Nadal. It's not that they don't like him, but to me, they consider it a personal affront that this throwback game, ergo, the game they used to play is being played by Federer, and being trumped. So of course, they're going to hype him, but it comes with a two-edged sword. This elegant, beautiful game that they love so much isn't effective against Nadal's game, and it fairly kills them. They want their ideas and opinions to reign supreme and Rafa knocks the air out of their arrogance.

There are too many times these allegations are thrown out by JMac and crew without a shred of proof.

I've been at matches and have seen coaches unabashedly coaching and not one word was said to the player or the coach. This is just another ill disguised attempt to elevate their friend, client, and social buddy.

Maybe in a very tight match.. obviously not this one. I understand you're upset because Nadal won the open but don't be ridiculous, this isn't a big deal. Djoko was hit and sunk by then.

Boom, right on the nose. In fact, I've heard this exact same idea espoused by people who love tennis but don't post on this board.

I agree. Also, on the verdasco match in AO 09': Verdasco took a MTO at 3-2 for him in the fourth and Nadal was up to serve. How many were outraged by this? Exactly...
