Let's hope he can at least get to the Wimbledon final so that the greatest rivarly in tennis will continue. We are very lucky to be experiencing this. I think this is the greatest rivarly in tennis history. The amount of talent and mental toughness those two legends have is unparallel to any previous rivalries in my opinion. Let's hope that they will meet in slam finals of at least the next four slams. And I personally don't want to see either of them win four slams in a row. I want each of them to alternate in winning every couple of slams. I personally hope both Nadal and Federer beat Sampras' slam record. Imagine how exciting that would be with having two GOATS in the same decade.

I don't think this is the greatest rivalry in tennis. Borg Macenroe, Agassi Sampras, are both better imo.

While Federer is in prime position to beat Pete's 14, his rival nadal is most surely not. He did win 3 RGs, it is possible for him to win many more, but this kind of record needs time to be broken, and consistency. Nadal's game takes a toll on his body, last year he disappeared after wimbledon. If he can somehow not get any slower, stay at this top level in fittness, and manage to win just about every slam (3 out of 4 for a couple of years) then he has a chance.
He probably isn't even going to reach more than 8 though.

At least admit that this would be very exciting if both of them beat Sampras' record. Of course this is wishful thinking but unlike most of the nerds on this website who are obsessed with Federer winning everything at least I am wishing for something that all tennis fans would enjoy.

I respect your enthusiasm for Nadal but realistically he has a long way to go and needs to adapt his game to hard courts and grass which is easier said than done.

I am not a big fan of Nadal nor do I have anything against him but Federer and Nadal have met 8 out of 12 times on clay, where Nadal that favors his game. I don't consider it a rivalry until it becomes more consistent on other surfaces.

Chances of Nadal reaching the finals at Wimbledon is going to be a long shot…

    Nadal at 21 = 3 slams
    Federer at 21 = Federer who ??

Both guys are virtually in different generation, so there's no way we can compare the number of slams they won until they both reach the end of their careers.

all the teenagers and preteens just love that nadal and his clam diggers just like they love johnny depp in Pirates of the Caribbean and transformers and everything else that is flashy and looks silly, the rest of us will just have to deal with it, thank god hardcourts and grass are coming up so they can all start going back to disneyworld and off these boards...

Agreed. Wait, what's wrong with Johnny Depp? lol, you have to admit he acted great in Pirates.

This thread is a waste, Nadal's never gonna win more than 5 slams, federer is most likely going to break sampras' record, and lets leave it at that for now.

You guys need to chill down. I understand that you admire and support Federer, but attacking Nadal's fans is not going to make your Federer win the French open or become the GOAT. All I'm saying is have some respect for both player, eventhough you're more likely to root for one. This is the way mature fans should act.

MEAC_ALLAMERICANTENNISFANPOSER, Nadal and Federer have played 7 out of their 12 matches on clay, not 8 AND their head-to-head on hard courts is 2-2 (and Fed's up 1-0 on grass, fyi). Check your facts before you make statements.

Yea but he continues to impress you by improving his volleys. did you see some of the Mcenroe like volleys he can hit when he plays doubles.? It is just so genius like, angles, deft drop volleys and low skidding slice volleys, they are one of the best volleys i have ever seen. So having said that, rafa has a good chance to win wimby.;)

I was really astonished that RAfa made the finals at Wimbledon and therefore why not this year? The important part of his game seems to be the state of his confidence which must be pretty good at the moment. Deep down I really think he could - the more doubles he plays the better his game will be - he really needs to improve his serve though

Well, I'd say 81 consecutive victories on clay is one hell of a legend. Not counting 3 consecutive French open titles undefeated and still counting and all that at his age is totally already one legend IMO.

I second Drake on this one - like I have ended up agreeing with him on so many other occassions.
He seriously needs to - Nobody would want his hero to pick his ass every second minute.
And yeah, this is crappy thread.

I can't believe their are STILL grown adults in here talking about ass picking. That was funny about 2 years ago. The kids in these forums idolizing Nadal aren't half as disturbing as middle aged men talking about his ass. Nadal can bang the yellow ball. Thats all we need to discuss.

If the Wimbledon officials keep sucking up to baseline bashing players by slowing down the surface, then most certainly it will be the rape of a classic tournament. We'll be wondering, "serve/volley, what's that?". Sampras himself said this (I saw it on a TV program), that he would much prefer serve-volley tennis than seeing two guys "bashing each other from the baseline".

Can'really see how Wimbledon can do anything about court surfaces as they are very much at the mercy of the weather (until centre court is covered) not really unlike the FO. Last year it was really dry because we had an unusual summer and the court resembeld a grass bowl - this year it could be the completer opposite

I'm no expert, but I believe there are officials who take care of every aspect of the grass. I think they can certainly control the surface. Happens in cricket pitches all the time, the match can take an entirely different turn if the surface is handled differently.

Basically, all of the surfaces are being modified to help out clay-court players (except the clay-courts b/c no mods needed there).

    It's really quite a scandal.

If you think Nadal will continue to improve & exceed Federer's GS count, then you are clearly dillusional. Not even the die-hard Nadal fan would think that.

Btw, Sampras won only 1 slam at 21.

he picks his butt during the match. why is that such a big deal to some of you?

and like everyone said, if you think nadal's going to break sampras' record, your on crack.

i don't think the fed/nadal rivalry is the best ever. for one, they've only met in 1 GS final outside the FO. i think in order to even be a candidate for one of the best rivalries ever, nadal has to create better results on other surfaces. although he's accomplished a lot already with a couple of hardcourt masters titles, he'll need to fare better to make this rivalry one of the greatest.

Who said Nadal will exceed Federer's Grand slam count ? You said it all yourself. I only depicted that we cannot compare the two by grand slams count since Federer is a lot older than Nadal and we can only do that until they reach the end of their careers. I'm not trying to attack or ruin the legacy of your god, so just chill down, ok ?

No, Federer has to fare better to make the rivalry worthy of recognition. Right now it's not even a rivalry. Nadal is leading too far in the head to head.

i think it's already established that nadal is the GOAT on clay. but the same statement can also be made that fed is the GOAT on grass. as said earlier in this thread, they've played 12 times, 7 times on clay, once on grass.

fed's result throughout the year are topnotch, continuously reaching GS finals, while nadal doesn't do too well (in comparison to fed) after the clay season. the reason nadal has such a landslide head-to-head record against fed (8-4) is because fed is capable of overcoming the obstacles and reaching the final of his least favored court, which happens to be nadal's favorite court. if nadal does better during the AO, USO, and W, one would assume he would have more encounters with fed on a more even playing field. hence, the record would be less one-sided.
