Nadal: Favorite To Win U.S. Open

madrid anyone????
Madrid was not a 5 setter and Rafa was as far from being 100% as can be. At the USO he may be too rusty to have a chance at making the final but if he DOES make the final, he will be fresh enough to break Fed's confidence down the same way he did in their last 3 slam finals.

Wow. Awful confident considering Federer has won the last two slams while Nadal was nursing a knee injury.
Federer has won the last 2 slams WITHOUT having to beat Rafa. Given that Rafa has beaten Fed in their last encounters at 3 different slams (RG, W and AO), yes I feel awfully confident that IF they get to meet (and that's a big if of course) Rafa will get the better of Fed.

That was all before Nadal had to take 2 months off for his knees. This being the 3rd time in less than a year that his knees have acted up. IF Nadal managed to grind his way to a USO final and play Fed, I would give it to the 5 time champ, and not the guy who is making his first final. Don't forget that the last time they met, it was clay, and Fed won.

Yes and the last SLAM they met, it was on hard court and... Remember who won?

He has won last two slams without beating Rafa because Rafa was not_________ enough to be there.

Fill the blank guys.

So confident......why are some people so sure Nadal will make the final, or even be prepared to be in the US open?

They also missed the United States hockey team beating the Soviet Republic in 1980. Also known as the Miracle On Ice. Im here to tell you that they made a huge mistake again.

You do understand that just because someone is the favourite doesn't mean that they are going to win don't you?

Stop digging holes for yourself. Frankly Nadal actually has to be at the US Open to stand a chance of winning it. In my opinion he won't even show up.

Nadal should be thankful that he got such a gracious draw in Australia. It wasn't easy, but as far as HC slams are concerned, it was anything but difficult. C. Rochus and Karusinic, out of form Haas, Gonzo was tired from the match vs Gasquet, Simon in the QF, and Verdasco in his 1st ever slam SF before Fed in the finals. And he still had to battle to get past Verdasco in 5, before taking out Fed in the finals. IMO, he will be lucky to get anything nearly that good at the US Open, as far as draws are concerned.

what lame excuses. will be funny if nadal wins us open, you biased #$%^#>

Nadal is far from unbeatable on hard courts. Give credit to him for winning the AO, but that was 7 months ago. Alot changes in 7 months. Now, after losing 4th round of the FO, and missing Wimbledon and losing #1, his confidence has to be shaken. If he can lose 4th round at the place he owned, he definetly could go out 4th round or earlier at the US Open depending on the draw. Even in his best yr he couldn't make the USO finals, so it's no lock he'll make it that far to possibly face Federer. Of course, it all depends on his form. Like I said earlier (if you know how to read), if he comes back and wins a MS event, then he definetly goes back to being 2nd or 3rd favorite.

And I stand by the fact that he had a pretty gracious draw in Australia.

Well I guess he can pull it off...he likes to go in without having the pressure to win so its possible.I never underestimate him.

In order to be a favorite of a tournament, you usually have to have one it at least once before, let alone get past the semis.

Actually Nadal is nigh unbeatable on hardcourts when he's 100% fit.

Alright, well, let's see... Men that have taken out Nadal on hard courts...

Del Potro
Murray
Monfils
Davydenko
Simon
Djokovic
Roddick
Tsonga
Youzhny
Federer
Nalbandian
Ferrer
Gonzalez
Malisse

And this is just back to 2007.

Don't give me that, "Well, he was injured / tired / had an upset stomach" stuff. If you're fit enough to show up, you're obviously fit enough to win. Nadal's recent pull-out of Wimbledon shows us that this is his philosophy.

In Nadal's defense, although he wasn't "injured/exhausted" in the matches you provide, ,,,,,,,,, the sun **WAS** in his eyes. :)

okay that's it, I know I said before that roger wasn't my first choice for who I wanted to win the USO, but I change my mind. I want a fedal final and I want roger to beat rafa, so some of these nadal ****s can shut up!

That happens and these *******s will become more bitter, more insecure and believe me they will throw every single thing they can find. They have a complex of an oppressed, insecure mass, feeling the need to be heard all the time. They have nothing to do but make a big deal at every single thing they can hold on to that suits their agenda. You can tell too because some of them have not been here that long and they have a high post count, mostly of negative comments and very limited topic( pro Nadal and anti Federer). So please do not waste your time, go on your way and don't let them drag you down. These are very unhappy, desperate people.

You think they'd shut up?

"Federer can only beat Nadal in a slam final when Nadal is injured," would be heard for months.

I think the US Open is more "wide open" than people think. I don't think Nadal, Federer, Murray or Djokovic are special favorites. My prediction - someone outside the top four will win it. See you in the brackets....

It will just be nice to see Nadal with energy by the end of the season.
