Nadal/Federer/Djokovic fans united

It seems that the fan bases can't really get along. So let's use this thread in order to praise all 3 players. I want this thread to be a celebration of these 3 players and what they brought to the tennis world. I'll kick things off with a few statements about Federer and Djokovic because I've given plenty of compliments to Nadal already.

Federer is really an incredible inspiration and a perfect example on how to never give up. After the 2012 Wimbledon victory, he went for nearly 5 years without winning another slam. Everyone was saying year after year that he should have retired cause it's hurting his legacy to lose especially in those slam finals to Djokovic. But he never gave up and here he is today adding 2 slams to his tally. If he had listened to his doubters and gave up, he would have not won those 2 slams. He kept believing and I applaud him for that.

Djokovic has definitely become underrated now that Federer & Nadal are back at the top in 2017. Some of his years like 2011 and 2015 were truly amazing and will never be forgotten. It's easy to hate on Novak right now because he is nowhere near his best in terms of play and results, but we all remember Nadal also struggling for a few years and people writing him off. He came back this year and wrote history again. These champions can never be written off so although there's no guarantee that Djokovic will also comeback and win a slam, the fact remains that he deserves respect for everything he has accomplished.

Please, if you are a Federer fan, use this thread to compliment Nadal and Djokovic. Throw in there a shoutout for clay court tennis and give a compliment to the Olympics. If you are a Nadal fan, give compliments to Federer, Djokovic and even the WTF... If you are a Djokovic fan, spread some love too cause here in this thread all the members of the big 3 are loved and cherished, and we fans will unite together cause if we do, tennis wins.

If fans of Murray, Wawrinka and other fan bases would like to join in, you are more then welcome.

Alright, I'm going to give some credit to Nadal, just like you did for Federer. He's a tremendous competitor and even though since late 2013 to early 2014 he's been a near non-factor in grand slams outside of clay (where he is peerless), he just keeps on giving it his all. Bad loss after bad loss to people well below him in the rankings could have left him disheartened and damaged his legacy in the game, but he came back strong with a respectable showing against Federer in the Australian Open final, winning as many sets against the Swiss as Nishikori and Wawrinka were able to.

After that he put together another two strong hard court masters performances before sweeping through clay unchallenged by even Dominic Thiem and Wawrinka.

What next? A tough loss to world number 16 Giles Muller, who is a really difficult proposition on grass. I think one of the things that makes Nadal so exciting is the fact that you never know what to expect, only that he always gives his all. Incredible spirit, heart of a true champion.

Feel free to use any of this in your signature, I mean every single word.

I am appalled and hurt that you've left out Murray.
You shall eat Haggis till the end of your days !!!

I hadn't even noticed! As penance for my sins against the muzziah I shan't wear my kilt for a week!

Also, I couldn't help but notice that the OP mistakenly spent half of the paragraph dedicated to praising Djokovic unintentionally praising Nadal's clay run instead! What an unfortunate slip up.

If you are a Nadal fan, give compliments to Federer, Djokovic and even the WTF...

"Even" the WTF? Woah, buddy. I'm all for respecting great players, but why should I give two licks about the WTF? Just because it's an elite field of only the best players of the season? Just because the format serves to eliminate match up issues between players and find the strongest from the entire group?

I'd rather die. You hear me, boy?

Yes but many argue that in order to be fair it can't always be played on a fast indoor surface. Players competes on all sorts of surfaces and mostly outdoors during the year in order to become Top 8. So then the WTF which is a battle of the top 8 is always played on fast indoor favouring the same players year after year. They definitely should change things up.

That being said as a Federer fan your task is not to talk about and compliment the WTF but rather perhaps give compliments to the Clay season or the Olympics. Come on you can do it. Take a deep breath and just do it.

I've always been a huge fan of the Olympics. It's such a prestigious tennis event. Maybe my favourite aspect of the competition is that it's only once every four years, so it doesn't matter if one player is the best in the world for three and a half years, another player could come along at the right time and win the title! Even more impressive is the list of winners, most of whom aren't household names, demonstrating either how little previous greats cared about the competition, or how fortunate certain players were! It's certainly one of the worst measures of greatness, which is saying something! Wow neato.

Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Nicolas Massu, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Andre Agassi, Marc Rosset, Miloslav Mečíř, even Jaron Comarn! A star studded list if ever I've seen one!

I'll bite:
- Rafa is the single most dominant player on any given surface. He's a big match player like few others in the history of the game. And as @Tennisanity has already stated, there are whole games in any given match, where he doesn't cheat with the time between points (and, I should ad, plenty of matches where he hasn't received illegal coaching from Uncle Toni).
-
Novak has enjoyed 18 of the most dominant months in tennis history. He's a threat across all surfaces, indoors, outdoors, grass, clay and fast and slow HC - you name it (albeit not so much on blue clay).
I'll always be extremely impressed with his first 9 months of 2011, going 10-1 against "primish" and and "peakish" Fedal is utterly insane. He's overall consistency is out of this world and he's better at redirecting the ball with depth than any other current player.

Both of them are top-3 all time defenders and have incredible passing shots on the run.

Exactly. At the Olympics you play from your heart and for your whole country. It's much bigger than personal glory. So it's truly magical and brings the best out of everyone. Great tribute!

That's a good point that I never brought up. I wish I was so close with one of my uncles that we had an unspoken language to communicate. Really heart-warming how close Nadal is with his uncle in that regard.

So true. I'm sure you'll agree that given that it's all about competing for your country, not for yourself as an individual that Federer and Wawrinka's gold victory is equally impressive!

It's definitely impressive, but not when discussing what he did as a single player and his singles career statistics. But again, you are missing the whole point of the thread. Tons of tennis fans and even Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Murray themselves claim that the Olympics are up there with the slams for them, but yet you can't even bring yourself to give a compliment to the Olympics only 1 time and in 1 thread. Stop being a Federer fan for 1 minute, take a deep breath, and do it.

I'm trying to think of how to answer in a way that someone with your obvious agenda will understand... How about...

So far you are embarrassing Federer and his fans. You can't even control yourself to stop hating for one minute even if for the sake of trying to get along with other fan bases. It saids a lot about you. Keep on trolling.

I made quite an extensive post as my first reply to this thread, I suggest you revisit it.

Sure; I'll bite. A part of this post is just a reiteration of some of my earlier posts on this site but nevertheless here goes.

My opinion of the big 3 is that Nadal is very good at turning it on when things get tight whilst Federer and Djokovic are more consistent than their great rival when it comes to putting themselves in winnable situations regularly on the tour.

I don't necessarily gravitate towards bull's play style but he's been a part of many of my favorite matches of the past decade; Rome'06 F, RG'07 F, Wimbly'07 F, AO'09 F, USO'11 F and RG'13 SF just to name a few.

He doesn't give away cheap points and some of his lesser opponents have played some unreal tennis at times over the years to hand him those shock losses. A lot of good entertainment since those guys were zoning but it would be unfair of me to say that his exits didn't take away with them some of the excitement from those big tournaments.

Many of his wins on clay hurt at the time during his reign of terror but looking back, it's difficult to not acknowledge Rafa's tremendous shot making talent, athleticism and tenacity; he has great respect for his opponents and that motivates him to try to keep improving which has made him the champion that he is.

Does that make you happy? Feel free to use some of it in your signature like the guy earlier mentioned.

WTF hasn't been fast in a decade buddy. NO EXCUSES

Djokovic's hair has lasted better than his rivals. Inspiring.

I was going to make a witty comment about this, but then realized this is probably not the right thread to do it.

Damn, it's hard being witty when you aren't allowed to troll anymore.

OP, Good spirit. I tried something similar last year. The official Fedalovic thread.

https://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/index.php?threads/fedalovic-fan-thread.565095/

Last time I was active in this forum(sometime in 2013) there were lot of Fedovic fans, now looks like majority of the Fed fans are against Novak!! @Hitman @NatF Not sure if you guys remember there was an epic son of god thread with lots of photoshopped pics of Fedalovic before the RG 2013 semi:D.

On topic have always been a fan of Fed and Novak, always felt their match up was the best to watch. Was not a big fan of Rafa's game but his aggressive play in 2013 was like breath of fresh air. Would love to see him get to that form during the North American hard court season.

Yes, I remember very well. Fun times. lol. :)

Interesting to see you post that. But one look at the timelines makes things very simple to understand at least to me. Federer fans hated Nadal since the start because he was the one who started to beat him and is in huge part the one who ended his dominance. Then came Novak who started challenging and beating Nadal so Federer fans rallied behind him because he protected their slam record which explains why for a few years Djokovic and Federer fans were united. But oh wait there's a twist, all of a sudden Novak became too successful and started beating and threatening Federer himself so the Federer fans also turned against Djokovic. Today I have hope in bringing all fans together if only in this thread. Let's hope we can all live together if not in perfect harmony then at least in a cordial way.

The "say something nice about a player you don't like" is a great idea but it's too idealistic and will never work.

It's like with resocialization of recidivists - eventually they will commit the crime again.

Well not all of Fed fans are like that.Never understood the concept of hating someone who doesn't even know you exist!!
I can say the same thing about all the fan bases here, there was a great deal of Fed bashing going on in 2013 when Fed was down.
Basically its about your favorite player dominating, you wont see a lot of djokodal trolls now but trust me when I say that once Nadal or Novak start dominating again you will see them come out.

And Fed has the most fans in this forum and by extension the most number of trolls, percentage wise it will be the same for all fan bases. The funny thing is the anonymity of an online forum gives them the opportunity to bash a rival player I am pretty sure if they see the player in real life they would do anything to get a picture or an Autograph :p

Actually, allow me to go into even more detail. :D Now, this applies to a small fraction of each fan base, but this is how I saw it go down. As I mention a fan base, please understand that I am not grouping everyone in it, but just a handful, because most fans of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic are very tolerant, and respectful towards the accomplishments of their fav's rivals. So here goes...Fed fans didn't like Nadal because Nadal was being a thorn to Federer, many Fed haters became Nadal fans because Nadal was their way of getting back at Federer's dominance, many were fans of other players like Sampras who saw Federer as a threat to Pete. Now Djokovic comes on the scene and immediately becomes a problem for Federer, and you see that many Nadal fans actually like Djokovic, because he is causing Federer issues, but not so much to Nadal. When Djokovic ascends, Nadal fans turn sour to him, because his was meant to only to stop Federer and not Nadal, however at this point, Fed fans start to like Djokovic now, because he is protecting Federer's records. Then Djokovic starts to stop Federer in slam finals, and all of sudden Fed fans turn on Djokovic, and unite with Nadal fans, as the both Federer and Nadal's legacies are under threat. Some Djokovic fans are torn between who they hate most, Federer or Nadal, a couple start to hate both. Djokovic drops off and Fedal pick up again, all of sudden Nadal fans hate Federer for keeping the slam lead and Federer fans hate Nadal again for starting a new assault on the slam record. Now you see some Fed fans and Nadal fans supporting Djokovic again. Funny world. :p

Good analysis. I guess in conclusion Federer fans started the whole thing! ;) Nadal fans and Djokovic fans were doomed from the start because Federer fans were already on the attack.:p

You are missing one little detail. Some actually became Nadal and even Djokovic fans because they hated Federer, and saw those two as a way of getting back at him. :)

The players are so different and play distinctly exclusive brand of tennis- while it's desirable, it's insanely difficult to appreciate other two while being a fan of one style of play.
While it's not possible to praise them all at once from tennis perspective, I'm ready to salute them as fellow human beings who have done a great deal for society in general.

It seems that the fan bases can't really get along. So let's use this thread . . . to . . . kick . . . Nadal . Don't worry. Give the OP another couple of months and Federer fans will start preferring Novak again.

No cause it was obvious that I was joking. I'm not a troll, it's more like I'm a tennis fan who is also a comedian. :)

I find it pretty detestable that someone who made a thread to compliment players you don't support, in your case Federer and Djokovic, would take such a dig at Federer fans. Whether you were serious or not, the fact that you think insulting a group of people is funny is quite telling.

I was so impressed with this thread until that post. You've really shamed yourself there.
