Nadal, Federer, the most underrated backhands ever in the history of tennis

It's beyond me how people are on their knees praising backhands of overrated players such as Wawrinka, Djokovic, Agassi, Safin, Nalbandian and so on.
But they cannot see the backhand of Nadal or Federer is way better than that. And those two have better backhands because there were countless matches when the two were attacked relentlessly on their backhand.

I know full matches where opponents sent 70% to 90% to their backhand. And being capable to come out as a winner after such siege on your backhand, is much more remarkable than one successful spectacular backhand from Wawrinka or any other overrated player.
And with all due respect, Djokovic is displaying the ugliest tennis. We are talking here about the standards of top players.

Nadal and Federer both have world class backhands. The likes of Djokovic, Wawrinka, Murray, and some others still have better backhands than Federer or Nadal. That's very clear to anyone who understands tennis. Likewise, Djokovic, Wawrinka and other players have excellent forehands too but their forehands pale in comparison with either Nadal or Federer's forehand.

I liked this post because it's super hilarious, but can't agree with it. Fedal BHs may be underrated but Djokovic's is still better and the other players you mentioned have potent though less consistent BHs.

We seem to remember the flourish with which Wawrinka hits those sweet BH in few countable matches. But Federer and Nadal have played so many more high profile matches and they have shown their BH is super strong. The big 3 may test each other's BH but i don't believe the rest of the tour can expose that.

There are several variables one is the stroking mechanics and another is the players ability to place it and to be able to vary it to keep opponents off balance or in less favorable positions on the court

If you don't see difference, have you seen anyone abusing Nadal's backhand from match to match, as main tactic, successful tactic? Nadal fh is obviously better, but his bh is so strong and consistent...

Against Federer it's common case players to hit his backhand most of time, often successfully... Nadal obviously, Novak too in important moments....


About Wawa, I don't consider his backhand that great, because of unbelievable inconsistency.... When he is on fire his bh is maybe the best, but it's rarely a case...

Federer hardly lost to players outside big 3 for most of the decade and those losses he had are not due to his BH.

Nadal's imperious FH to Fed's BH is venomous on clay but on HC Fed can give the payback.

Federer is the best one handed BH in the history of the sport and he is a purist. We cannot fault him for not adopting the modern day 2 HBH, which is really an ugly shot in general, unless executed by the likes of DJokovic, Nalbandian, Agassi, Nishikori.

Many people, including me, know how great their backhands. But 2 people who underrate their backhands are, themselves.

They run around to hit forehands too much. Unlike Djokovic, who absolutely will not run around, unless he has a sitter.

Federer's backhand is a mystery. When it was on, early in his career, it was such a beautiful thing. Maybe he needed more muscle (ala Wawrinka), to gain consistency on that wing! Maybe a little weight work would've done wonders! He probably had no weight work at all throughout his career.

1. Roger's and Rafa's BH are NOT underrated by ANY one who knows the game. Spend more time reading and you'll see many people here don't believe that Stan's BH is better than young Roger's BH (I am one of them).

2. However, it doesn't mean Roger's and Rafa's BH are WAY better than Nole's or Andre's BH. Gold is precious, but not more precious than diamond.

3. Djokovic plays one of the most Beautiful tennis EVER (and I've been watching tennis since Mid 80's). Great balance between offense and defense, mental and skill... ALL his techniques are textbook for youth/recreational players. Of course I'm talking about Top players (Slam winners) standards.

4. It's fun to see people who started following tennis since mid - late 2000's always like to say how boring Nole's game is compared to Pete's while some Pete's fans (like me) know to admire the beauty of Nole's game.
