Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer now meet in the 4th round of the U.S Open. I think this is their 5th meeting and Nadal is 5-0 IIRC. This match will be an interesting test of the state of Nadal's knees since there are more rallies then vs a volleyer like Tsonga. Still I think Nadal in 4 sets probably.

Totally Nadal in 3 unless he is really ailing again. Somehow I don't think he would lett Ferrer take him to 5 or evfen 4 if he can totally help it. But its a bit in my mind about injury and severity and how damaging it is to him. I am not saying he has thus far made more if ít than it is, but I think some players exaggerate the severity of their problem or either their coach or spokesman does so, so the opponent can be even greater surprised. I shouldn't say the player always because most don't call a conference and speak on such subjects specifically. It would be an obvious point. But on this one I think Nadal will win no problem, though will definitely impede for later.

why do you always create new threads for every single match and make it like its some fancy professional introduction....in any case nadal is 4-1 against ferrer, not 5-0

Yes I was wondering how much the Knee really hurts now. I'm convinced it can't be to bad if he was able to go through Tsonga like that blowing him out in the last 2 sets.

Ferrer will not win the USO so he'll let his fellow countryman Nadal through without much resistence.

Ferrer may well be the first real test for Nadal in this tournament. HIs first match was a test, but only because he was clearly not moving well. Then Tipsarevic was pretty injured. He played well against Tsonga, but Tsonga also helped a lot by giving away a ridiculous amount of points in the second and third sets. Ferrer is not likely to beat himself that way. He is much more consistent. He's been playing well lately. And he's had some pretty close matches with Nadal on clay, keeping up very well with him all the time except for a couple of crucial breaks (though you can't tell this by just looking at their 5-0 head to head). Of course if Nadal is able to move freely, I expect him to win. But otherwise I expect a tight match.

IMO if Nadal beats Ferrer he can pass through the quarter-final.
The question is how do you think he'll do against Djoko?

The longer this match goes the better Ferrer's chances. I'm going to take Ferrer hoping Nadal retires.

Nadal in 3 sets, just cause he owns Ferrer. Nadal owns all spanierds, they are what is equivalent to a sparring partners for a great champions like Ali, Tyson, Frasier.

C'mon Ferrer, whoever you are. KILL the buttpicker!!!!

How can you post on this site and not know who Ferrer is?

As much as I don't like Nadal, I hope to see him and Federer in the final so that Federer can even out their head to head stats.

Guys like Ferrer come by the dozen, especially from Spain or Argentina. They are around for years hanging somewhere in the top 20s, never achieve much of anything. Here's your chance Ferrer to make a name for yourself, at least for a day: KILL the buttpicker!

If Nadal is feeling good he should win easy in 3 sets. Even if he's feeling some pain he should still win. The only way in my mind Ferrer moves on to the next round is if Nadal defaults with immense pain.

I agree with that. When I thought about the match first the only thing I was worried about was with Ferrer liking longer rallies that could hurt Nadal if he had to move alot with the knees. However even though Ferrer likes long rallies his shots dont have enough stick to make you move hard for alot of shots, so I am not sure if even that applies.

You know I think Moya started this hairstyle of the Spanish: central part, bit long, headband kinda thing....Ferrero resisted. But maybe it would help his game if he succumbed.

Anyway...Nadal in 3, knees hurting or not.

i'm putting ferrer on the long list of atp players who need a haircut. maybe not an $800 haircut (doh! sorry fed) but a haircut nonetheless.

Interesting comment by Chela. He was asked today who he'd rather play in the next round, Nadal or Ferrer. He thought for a while and said he'd rather play Nadal. He explained that against Nadal he could at least get into a rhythm and play, but that Ferrer doesn't give you any rhythm to play with, that he is always trying to shorten the points. I don't really agree, but that's what he says. He practices a lot with Ferrer too, so he must know his game well.

Ted Robinson said someone served 10 straight aces in this USO. Was it Isner (against Fed?) or was it someone else?
i'm in full mute mode, so i don't know. knowing the idiot robinson he was probably sweating roddick. i mean, there's only four or five guys on the tour that he ass-kisses . . .

well my keyboard is european, and i think the russian keys reallllly wouldn't have gone over. funny topic thought, my hair is waist length but absolutely sure if i played tennis again at any level challenger or whatever i would not let it stay that long. too high maintenance and way too hot. but if they took a team pic i'm sure it would be harmonious.

ferrer is come out more solid than i thought but nadal, historically speaking, might change that around very quickly.

Do you watch the entire match in mute?
heheh. well, usually (and this is DEFINITELY the case during the uso) i start in mute or with the volume very low. crowd's not usually into a match from the first ball, so i don't miss the big cheers, plus i get to avoid all the senseless chatter. i raise the volume mid-set, cos i like to hear the ball and the crowd. but i tend to go back and forth a lot. like right now, i've got the volume up and jmac and ted are already annoying me so i might take a break and mute them for a while. ;)

i don't mind tracy too much. courier has been gabbing non-stop since day one. robinson is an idiot. trautwig is a total sycophant. barkann is the worst of the bunch, with his moronic interviews . . . even john has bugged me with his constant melodrama . . .

honestly say i used to like the team of fred stolle and cliff drysdale. pertinent info, a little insider knowledge, but definitely knew when to be quiet...i guess until cliff got with mary? LOL dunno. i always liked that team though.

I agree 100 %, but I think Courier likes to hear himself speak as he gushes about the male players, and bashes the WTA.

where has PMac been lately? I shouldn't even ask, he'll probably appear in full force soon enough.....

and does Cliff call any matches at the USO?
