I find it hilarious that the Federer fans want Nadal to lose before the final, but Nadal fans want Nadal to play Federer in the final.

But congrats to Ferrer. And to Federer 2007 US Open champion. :p

I hope Ferrer doesn't end up like Gonzo, because it'd be nice to see a first time slam winner this year.

nadal . . . get some rest, dude. you've earned it. you only get one body in life. take care of it.

congrats to ferrer. the match wasn't pretty, at times. but it was brutal for both guys.

Congratulations to Ferrer for a great effort, great play -- he really deserves this.

Congrats to Nadal for the effort, really all throughout the USO. One has to admire his work-ethic. I just can't help but think that this -- the pain, the injury -- could have been avoided had Nadal not played so much after Wimbledon. He needs to just rest from now until the AO.

You really don't want to see a great champion in the kind of pain Nadal was with his knees towards the end of this match.

Ferrer outplayed him, tendinitis in the knees doesn't make you cramp. Rafa couldn't run head to head with Ferrer, and I never thought I'd ever see that.

Congrats to Ferrer. He played an incredible match. I didn't think he could be that agressive but I guess he is able to adapt to his opponent. I'm hoping Nadal's knee can get better now.

Nads are pissed. His uncle more.

Nah I doubt his uncle is that pissed. I think he is the one who tries to keep Nadal grounded with a proper perspective.

Even if Nadal never wins another tennis match he would never have to work a day in his life. He has nothing to complain about.

phew... what a match! both absolutely left everything out there (with Ferrer playing out of his mind) I love tennis.

and what a great match indeed...

the hussle, effort, angles, and most of all net-play produced by these two was amazing, and great to watch. Bravo!

that was one of the single most impressive matches i've seen a player play. that was simply fantastic.

Compensating for it can make you cramp sure, but even if he did it wasn't that bad. He was just off the entire night. But Ferrer also played incredibly well.

Thank you Ferrer. You did it. You're my hero for the day. Although no one will remember you're name in a couple of days.

the tendons in your knee connect to everything else in your leg, just like in your elbow all the way up to your shoulder/neck area. it's not entirely unbelievable that his other leg muscles would start to hurt because of the overcompensation. and even if that wasn't the case, it was obvious the tendonitis was the major factor in Nadal's ability to run.

and once again, not to take anything from Ferrer, but had to get that POV in.

Ferrer played fantastic, even though Nadal was injured. Big thing was pulling out that third set. Whoever won that set was going to win this match in four. It was a really PHYSICAL match. This would have hurt Rafa even if he had managed to win.

Rafa probably won't even play the rest of the year if he needs any type of knee surgery. Hopefully, it isn't that.

This is all good news for Roger. These guys in the bottom half are killing each other to advance, and they've still got a couple more to get to the "sacrificial lamb" stage, a.k.a. the "US Open Finals."

I think I'd really like to see Haas win the tournament at this point. Or maybe Moya just to see a shock but...

Being a Federer fan, I can say I'm a bit disappointed to see Nadal knocked out. I don't think they've ever played a US Open match, and I was looking forward to it. However, Ferrer earned his way to the next round with a hell of a performance. I wouldn't have minded if it went 5 sets until 4 in the morning!! Great match guys.

THIS WAS STUPID.

ALL DAMN INJURIES. man. rafa. i can't sleep well tonight knowing that we have to see ferrer going on.

like i have said, i rather see someone make history then some upset where the person who wins ends up getting knocked out by a better player anyways.

ridiculous. i hope all of you understand djokovic will eliminate ferrer.
and that sir is the truth

you wanted to see an injured nadal limping in his next matches? Nice.

Man, if Ferrer continues to keep this level of play, he could beat Federer. I mean, tonight, he had no weakness at all. He could chase down all the balls so you can't hit any winners against him, his serve was nothing to scoff at, his groundstrokes were hard to return, but at the same time extremely consistent and he was excellent at the net. The only way you can beat a player that plays like that is to beat them at the net, maybe with some serve and volley. That way it would be much harder to chase down.

The same Ferrer that was bouncing up and down getting ready to return serve on match point? The excuses have already started...

No doubt Ferrer played great tonight. I think he can beat Djoko.

But there's still a far leap from that to saying he can beat Federer. If he meets Fed in the final, and plays as well as he did today, he'll certainly push Federer quite a bit. I don't think he'll win (although he could). Because this is the best Ferrer can play, and Federer's best is better still. I mean, there's a reason Fed's #1, not Ferrer.

Well Ferrer has always been the ultimate grinder, no surprise that his aggressive play could stick with Rafa on a hard court.
