WIMBLEDON, England (AP)—Rafael Nadal has been fined $2,000 by Wimbledon officials for receiving coaching during his third-round match.

Nadal was given a code violation by French umpire Cedric Mourier for allegedly receiving advice from his coach, uncle Toni Nadal, during his five-set win over Philipp Petzschner on Saturday.

Both Nadals said Toni had only been giving the player encouragement.

The fine was announced Monday. Nadal's reaction: "The rules are the rules."
 
I hope it's not pounds, the exchange rate will kill him. Poor innocent Rafa from Rafa land. You'll be right fella, save up ya pennies and you'll be off the hook!
 
The officials need to keep an eye out on Mirka's coaching too, she talks/ yells out to Fed during matches sometimes. Or is it only called coaching when the official coach encourages his player?;)

Ridiculous. $2,000 fine? Talk about going over the top. As if Wimbledon haven't got enough money as it is.

$2000 is only a slap on the wrist. That's certainly not enough to stop Nadal and uncle Toni.
 
$2,000 is nothing for Nadal, certainly not enough for him to change his ways. He probably uses more than $2,000 in $100 bills to wipe his butt with everyday. :lol:

american football players get fined 10k for wearing their socks the wrong way....

like seriously....they get fined for dumb stuff like that...
 
I just received an email me from Rafa asking me to send him $2000 in London immediately so he can pay the fine. :)

2 grand for Nadal is like a penny to us. The fine seems very low for guys who can make $1 million plus for winning a big tournament.

Maybe they can get Uncle Tony to coach Rafa to stop picking his butt before every point. That would be good.

The fine is probably so low because Cedric Mourier couldn't prove what the flip was being said (probably in catalan) and rafa couldn't be arsed to argue the case especially since shakira is in town:)

Cedric mourier is just an evil *******. Murray should sue him for the decision he made in queens, essentially costing him the match the next day.

Rules are rules. If you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime.

Reportedly, it the fine was not for encouragement, but for Tony's instructiion to take MTO.

he paid, no? the small amount says a lot about the accusation. I'm sure nobody was sure but since beer belly cedric said he did, that was the final verdict.....:neutral: I bet he sits in his hotel room at night, snickers and thinks of ways to make player's life hell. Is it because he failed at an attempt to become a pro?:twisted: if any player goes missing you know who did it.

You're going apesh!t because the Nadals got called on it. Did they contest the charge and definitely said it didn't happen? Them paying the fine is conceding that they violated. We can all try and move on but this is not good for Rafa. It's not the first time it happened.

As babbete said "the small amount says a lot about the accusation". Paying the fine is conceding that its more important to spend time after a win relaxing and watching the world cup and playing play station than worrying about a meager $2000 fine for Toni's encouragement. :)
 
I didn't see any coaching. His uncle said "Vamos", but that's it. Typical, everyone is against Rafa now, since he is in form. Even umpires are out to get him with unfair calls.

How do they even prove there was coaching. Was Toni say, to the right Rafa, hit is flat Rafa, play the drop shot Rafa...
 
Rafa seems to be looking to uncle Toni less than in the past. That doesn't excuse the incident, but i'd rather see them crack down on Justine Henin. I've never seen her NOT look to her coach before/after a point. It's pathetic.
 
Actually, Nadal rarely breaks the 25 second rule. He comes close, but rarely does he exceed it. Get your facts straight.

It's a formula that has been applies for eons (or at least since 2002) CC.

It's just life, and nothing at all to do with who's who. It has given us some better matches - for example, it prevented Lleyton from meeting a big seen until R4.

If Nadal had have played to a reasonable standard last year, he would almost definitely be seeded #1, especially carrying forward 75% of the winning points from 2008.

"Reasonable standard"? Oh my OO. Preventing Hewitt from facing a big seed in the first few rounds may not be seen as a good thing. :shock:

By reasonable standard, I meant, if he had have played and scored his usual bag full of points at Wimbledon.

The formula adds all of last year's grass points and 75% of the grass points of the year before to each player's ranking points, or thereabouts.

It aims to perform seedings so that the best grass-court players are seeded appropriately, something it does reasonably well. People need to remember that there is no grass pre-season, and no way for grass-specialist players to 'bump their ranking up' pre-slam, unlike all of the other slams, which have a medium-to-long surface-matched pre-season.
