Nadal footprint plaque permanently added to Phillipe Chatrier

You know the most beautiful thing about the plaque?

Do see any inflation era crap on it? Any - "Oh he won five slams in the CIE", or "only won 9 slams before his 30s?"

No. Of course not, because history doesn't work like that. He won 14 RG titles and each of them have the same value.

The numbers....the numbers will always remain, long after subjective eye test fandom is gone.
The weakest RG Nadal won was 2010. Beyond that, he was always beating at least one of Federer, Djokovic, Thiem or Wawrinka. Multiple times, a combination of them. Even in his weaker RGs, you just knew he had an extra gear to beat stronger opponents.

No, history doesn't work like that. That's what fan wars are doing right now. The plaque simply says 14 RG. When his titles are announced, they are announced one after the next, and if anything the fans cheer even louder after each passing number.

What makes you think they won't do it then? I doubt there will be another time in tennis history when a player in his 30s wins 4-5 titles at a slam, and we just had a 7-year era when it happened at three of the slams! That anomaly will surely be discussed for many years.

As earlier said, what made Nadal a RG legend worthy of many plaques is winning 9 RG titles over a 10 year period that included both Federer and Djokovic's peak years. Those other 5 titles are a sign of the times.

Fans like that only make up a very small portion of the overall tennis fandom, especially when you count casual fans who don't care about all this wonderful context stuff. Most people don't care, this place isn't the norm. I mean how many people care Laver won CYGS in his 30s, which is outside of his so called peak? Numbers will remain, the rest will be lost to time.

I don't care what casual fans or history books say.

The numbers will be there forever, but I won't. I know what I witnessed, and clearly Djok benefitted the most out of the cesspool era, there's no doubt about it.

He won as many slams from age 31-36 as he did from age 20 (when he won his first) through to age 30... oh and this is despite not playing 3 slams due to no WIM20 event and him getting banned from playing the AO22 and US22 events...

Only the most delusional people on this planet will believe that at age 36 he was better than ever... yet he won 3 slams that year and lost the final at the 4th in a 5 setter... the closest he ever got to winning a calendar slam!

Well deserved and very tasteful execution. Fits the design of the court and you can tell it's there, but doesn't get in the way. The only issue is that it's maybe too similar to those knee boards that ballkids use and combined with the camera angle it gives a much more assymetrical look to the court than usual.

Did toni attended nadal tribute ceromony, bcz no tennis website has mention his name, as far as i know in this regard.

This footprint feels super cool/symbolic.....Is there anything out there in the tennis world that compares??! Having this on the main court kind of feels more important that statue.....Every players has to pass that for the next 100 years or so.......

Have to say I am pleased as a Rafa fan :)

There is a plaque outside court 19 at Wimbledon with Isner and Mahut's name on and the score of the longest match that will ever be played. You see it on the entrance as you walk in, or walk past the court. Not the same as Nadal's, but it will always remain as that match will never be surpassed in length and games played.

Plaque celebrating when two guys couldn't break serve in 15,672 tries. Bot history.

What if there's a TB that goes on for 11 hours? :D

its also celebrating how their bodies kept going. That was nearly three days. Not some four or five hour match. Try serving for that long and see if your arm doesn't want to fall off.

14 RG titles is the one tennis record I can confidently say there's a good chance it will never be matched, let alone surpassed, in history of humanity. The last living soul on Earth will probably think about Rafa's RG record before breathing his last breath.

Thats what one calls a home run out the park.

epic afff
Trying not to get too deitful and star struck, but f*ck me, the level of absolute reverence to Rafa is now evidently almost of biblical proportions, quite literally if you read the New Testament. The thing is with something like this, the Legend grows as time goes on. In 100 years time Rafa will be of almost mythical legend. And we saw it live, we witnessed it.
